Taking a walk through the Pine trees today and breathing in their amazing scent made me feel all giddy and excited for my trip up North. I will be lost in northern Ontario for two weeks July1st -July 15th. You may not hear from me much as I will be trying my best to take a breath from social media and technology to be completely submerged in the ancient forests and glistening lakes that await me. 😍🌲🌊
Today's peaceful walk, through a forest near the shores of the majestic Lake Superior, really helped to reset my buzzing mind. Seems harder lately for me to turn off the noise and pandemonium of the world both near and far. This was exactly what I was craving, even though I didn't know it. In Japan it is called Shinrin-yoku which is a term that means "taking in the forest atmosphere" or the more alluring "forest bathing." It was developed in Japan in the 1980's and is now one of the cornerstones of preventative health care and healing in Japanese medicine. Simply go to a natural area like a wooded park or forest and spend time among nature. No need to hike or exercise when you get there. You can take a calm walk or sit and simply be. I've heard of places in Japan where they even have special beds placed throughout the forest. It's a free and easy prescription with positive side effects. .
