GOOD morning! When the desk and the books are calling and you‘re still soaking energy from a stunning experience at the weekend ——✨—
Although you sweat over the books the whole week you feel guilty when you still keep your weekends holy - so relieved when the state examina II will be in the books in june 2019 - till then the try of not going crazy and to remain faithful to my way with my holy weekends filled with nature, my hubby and true life!

They call this a frameless, over the glass goggle. I call it freakin awesome. It fits perfect with a helmet has a massive field of view and is really comfortable. If this was from a big name brand it would be over $200 but it’s only $79.99 @anticorpriders you make some very rad gear. Come on in and try them on for your self and see the rest of the range as well.

Midtmaradalen, and Midtmaradalstindane seen from Bandet. Photo is taken in early morning as the sun rises above the ridge of the nearby mountains just when the cloud layer is breaking up. I'll rate this view as 10/10. Would hike again.

So flashed from today‘s alpine tour! So different from all the other sports I‘m doing - it‘s „calmer“ and somehow more in-depth! Take pictures and enjoy the moment.
•••
When focusing on getting to the top of the ascent, one often dreads the journey upwards. As I’ve become more experienced, I have learned to love the hike up! I take tons of pictures and enjoy the peaceful tranquility, which comes with the isolation and exposure that ski mountaineering offers. Take pictures and enjoy your time in nature. Trying to get the hike over quickly leads to overexertion, and typically makes you slower in the long run!

St. Moritz has a reputation for being a glitzy destination for the jet set. 🛍 It was the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism in 1864 and hosted the 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics. 🥇 St. Moritz is the number one alpine holiday destination and is the place where James Bond dashed down the ski slopes in The Spy Who Loved Me film. ⛷

3 major pieces of advice for beginning to plan backcountry ski routes:
•••
1.) Use CalTopo and Google Earth. CalTopo is a topographical mapping website with a bunch of cool features for the backcountry. You can draw lines, add points, play with slope angle shading, get graphs that show vertical gain over distance, and export all this into Google Earth, to then have 3D views of everything on both the ascent and descent.
•••
2.) Stick to high ground, like ridges on the ascent. Not only does this make for better views, typically it is also the safest place in terms of avalanche danger.
•••
3.) Plan your break points in advance. One thing I struggled with when I began ski touring was my pace while skinning. I have found that I can do roughly a 1,000 vert and/or 2 miles in an hour, without a break. I plan out the UTM coordinates of my break points with both my pace and avalanche assessment in mind. Example: if I have a tour totaling 2,400 vert and 3.5 miles, but the first 2.5 miles are low-angle, I'll push to the high-angle part and take a break while assessing avalanche risk. Note that conditions are changing, as I have gained elevation and I am typically now on steeper and more complex slopes. Tree line is typically a good point to do this, but it varies... and finding your pace takes time and practice.

Multi-day ski tours, and determining your snow camping / cooking methods:
•••
Cook on snow before you go camp in snow. The first time most people regular camp, they bring a Jetboil or MSR stove, and everything ends up being okay. There are tricks to learn, but nothing too vital. Cooking in snow is not as easy! I recommend cooking lunch on a snow day-trip, before going camping on a multi-day ski mountaineering tour (when you need food/calories way more).
•••
Try setting up "kitchen" as in these pictures. Dig a pit and make a shelf, then take a piece of plywood and put it on top to prevent the stove from melting through the snow. Also with your snow saw you can cut a box under the shelf you’ve built, and that acts as a fridge of sorts. I then put my tow-sled over the cube to act as a door.
•••
You'll also notice the foam pads we are standing on.... pro tip they insulate your feet and they are great!

Multi-day ski tours, and determining your snow camping / housing methods. Try these three methods, depending on the situation:
•••
1.) Tent
Advantages: easy to set up and take down, provides a sealed environment.
Disadvantages: more bulk/weight in pack/sled, plus tents rarely insulate well unless specifically designed for insulation.
•••
2.) Snow Cave
Advantages: warm! Believe it or not, most snow caves are about 32 degrees Fahrenheit / 0 degrees Celsius, making them a surprisingly warm method for winter camping. They are also light, as all you have to pack is a spare layer of clothes. I'll go into more details on building snow caves, and having a spare set of clothes ready.
Disadvantages: takes a couple hours, and a lot of shoveling to build.
•••
3.) The Pit
Advantages: light-weight, as all you need is 550 parachute cord and a tarp. Fairly quick to set up (about 20 minutes).
Disadvantages: neither warm, nor sealed off from the elements.
