It’s about that time of year again and I’m more amped this year than in previous years. As a competitor our goal is to see continuous progress from year to year. I had a few frustrating years within my 8 year stint as a competitor but I’ve had the best year so far as I’ve already seen improvements from last year which as given me more motivation to push my boundaries. I can’t say enough how ready I am to hit the stage again.  As soon as the online feed information is announced by @paul_dillett and @wbff_official I will share it ASAP Rocky! Back in Dec. when I decided to prep for the entire year I wasn’t sure how it would effect my prep for @wbff_official Worlds. I was a little concerned with losing size or not being able to reach that grainy level of conditioning with the year long dieting but I’ve found coming in and out of a calorie deficit and ramping up and tapering down cardio has worked out perfectly. I can do both. I can stay decently conditioned all year long and I’m hella confident I will come in slightly heavier and I’m well on track to be a gluten intolerant person’s wet dream 🤔 (grainy!) I aim to bring back that condition I had in 2016 which was an all time best for me condition wise with the added size I’m on track to out do what I did in 2017. Each year I feel like I’ve reached my max but as I continue I’m finding I have a little more gas in the tank. Let these next 6 weeks roll on!! I can’t wait to be in Vegas to do it all over again! @paul_dillett www.ajfit.online

Coffee as traditionally been my go to when I’m dragging ass before a workout. I don’t care for pre-workout products with “propriety blends.” That means anything can be in the product and u can’t research what’s what. Sunday ritual (aside from taking my mom to dinner) doesn’t change when I’m out of town. Just finished another workout at the infamous Quads Gym in Chicago and doing a 4.4 mile walk back to the Airbnb. Stopping by at a coffee shop along the way to crank out the rest of my online plans and inquiries! Wanna know the secret? WINNING a show isn’t absolute as it’s based on judges opinions and u have to be thankful when the ball bounces ur way. What is absolute is that we achieved this level of condition regardless of the outcome and for that I’m very proud of my friend and client @akuchmeister. A bit of a spin off from my post about measuring food & being meticulous with ur macros. This 1st pic is this morning & I’m in full prep mode (7/13/18) vs the second pic taken 3 wks ago (6/23/18). Although I’ve committed to tracking my diet all year I add in a bit of leeway, guesstimation, 2-3 off plan meals, resistance training 5 to 6 days (but usually 6) per week. I do 3-5 (up to 1 hour but have been known to do 75 min if I’m feeling frisky or I’m watching something interesting and I’m zoned in) sessions of cardio based on how I feel and if I’ve taken in too many calories with my cheats and guesstimates. Hence u will see me a little leaner some weeks in my posts than others (but that’s also by design as I cannot live in a calorie deficit indefinitely). What u see in my current pic is the result of following my own written plan to the gram and allowing myself one cheat meal per week. Cardio 6 days a week gradually increasing time or distance. Resistance training 6-7 days per week only taking an off day when my workouts begin to suffer. Mind u I only do this during prep as I’m bound by a strict time line to look how I need to by that day. I wouldn’t recommend that level of output for anyone just going on holiday or to look good for a shoot or family photos. My point for sharing this is: Even tho ur not a competitor u still have to practice at exercising constant discipline if ur wanting to shed and keep off body fat. Going from point A to B is a tough grind but maintaining once u get there will become easier but u must adopt a new way of living to keep ur hard earned gains (or loss in this context). U can gradually step down cardio to a more manageable rate and follow a proper nutrition regimen and allowing certain days to incorporate a cheat meal (not a cheat day). I’d monitor this strictly as people tend to let this slip and the weight creeps back on. Living leaner can be done. Indulgences with food shouldn’t be daily thing. What makes a vacation so amazing? It’s bc we work our asses off and plan just a couple or a few real getaways a year. We have something to look forward to. Something to celebrate all our hard efforts. Diet is no different. Even if ur name is Walter White (Breaking Bad reference and all time best TV series known to man) u cannot accurately eyeball 150g of chicken or 32g of almond butter. If ur really good at guesstimating (which is what I do when I’m not trying to win some shit) u will maintain at best. Being off ur count and going over by 50 calories per meal at 3 meals per day puts u at a surplus of 150cals. Looking at 4 meals a day and now that’s 200 cals over ur maintenance caloric intake. That’s 1050 to 1400 extra calories for the week. Forget about losing weight that’s about 2-3 extra hours of cardio u would need just to break even and not gain weight. Also if ur working with a trainer or online coach their hands are tied when ur not following what they’ve suggested ur macros and calories should be and makes their job incredibly frustrating and almost impossible to adjust based off ur loose, approximate rendition of the original plan. It’s like trying to work on a car without running diagnostics on it. We’ll be guessing along side of u to figure out what ur intake might be. Being meticulous with ur nutrition will have u seeing results faster than what most people think is humanly possible. Try it. Commit and see what happens. PS: I’m not even gonna front... YES the lighting is prime. YES I’m hitting the shit out of this angle. YES my fade is tight. Yes my beard is on fleek. YES I have a bikini model ass on a muscle model body. YES this could have been a better pic but this mirror is dusty AF. NO it’s not photoshopped. Look at the wooden floors, background, etc. nothing is altered or warped. ✌🏾😬www.ajfit.online

After 9 years in this fitness industry I finally feel like I’m getting close to what I’ve been chasing after. Physique wise I know that will never happen as I’m happy with my progression but I’ll never be satisfied. Im referring more to the man I’ve been striving to be. It’s taken me this long in my life/career to allow myself to be open and vulnerable. With that (and to my surprise) I’ve realized it’s actually empowered me. It’s enabled me to become more well rounded. When all this lifting weights and dieting is over I’ll be left with my character and personality. After all the likes and admiration fades when I’m not looking like a damn statue anymore will I be proud of myself then? Today I can honestly say yes. That hasn’t always been the case... If I had to pick a body part am I known for I’d have to say CHEST. I’m sure most would agree as it’s a dominant feature on me. BUT it is equally as important to train my back more frequently because of how dominant my chest is. I typically train back 2x per week to offset any imbalances. Not only does this enhance ur physique, it staves off silly injuries that can be caused by major imbalances. Forming a trusting and positive partnership takes effort and time. And unfortunately, it doesn’t just happen overnight. For any relationship to grow strong and stay strong, you need to put in some work. Communication is key! It is one of the most important qualities a healthy relationship. However, not everyone knows how to communicate properly... or even communicate at all. Happy and healthy couples have this game down. They discuss the good things (which is the easy part) AND the issues without sweeping it under a rug. In order to move forward and grow, u need to be able to honestly talk about your feelings. No matter how awkward or uncomfortable it feels, it will make for a long-lasting and fulfilling relationship. Respect is of course at the top of the list too. Maintaining a relationship means respecting ur partners time, heart, character, and trust. This next one hits home bc of the logistics of our relationship... Quality time: It’s all about quality over quantity. It doesn’t matter how much time u and ur partner spend together. The most important part is about the quality of this time so u keep that deep connection. And finally time apart. It makes the heart grow fonder (if u give a shit about the person 😂) but it also allows us to still be individuals (independent). Again the logistics of our relationship forces us to really be grateful of the time we spend together and forces us to be independent and maintain healthy boundaries. All these things I find key to a long lasting relationship.  Now add 1,550 miles between the 2 of u with 2 kids and see how exceptional ur skills need to be to maintain all this. what is a Pre-exhaust exercise?? The total bodybuilding effect comes about when you fully stimulate as many fibers in the muscle as possible. But some muscles are bigger than others and when used in combination with smaller ones, will still have unused fiber available when the smaller muscles are totally exhausted. But you can plan your training so that you isolate and fatigue the big muscles first, before you train it in combination with smaller ones. When you dumbell/barbell press for example, you are using your triceps, and little bit of shoulders in combination. the pecs are by far the strongest of these muscles, and normally, when you press the weight up, the smaller triceps and shoulders fail long before the pecs do. To compensate for this, you can do some sort of fly movement  first (just like in the video) which isolates and PRE-EXHAUST the pecs. Then if you go to do any type of press, the pecs, which are already tired, will go to total fatigue at about the same time as the other muscles.

#BALANCE... This is something I mention regularly. Although I do one thing excessively (mainly bc my survival and livelihood depends on it) I find it to be a crucial skill set to balance keeping myself in top level shape all year long while handling other responsibilities and necessary things that tend to make life not just manageable but wonderful. This year is no exception with the awesome new additions to my life it actually fuels me to do more and work harder. Being 4 weeks out I can definitely say that things are getting super intense each day. Diet is becoming more strict each week. having to train heavy and intense everyday on a low carb diet fucking sucks!!! cravings and anxiety to eat more food its something that Im having to fight each day now🍔🍟🍕🍦. Mood swings are also starting to become a problem now😠😂😣😒😭. loud noises and crowded places irritate me. feeling tired all day😫 and having to take small naps during the day😴. All this "symptoms" definitely assures me that competition time is super close now.. and as much as I hate feeling like this during prep I got to admit that I love the process, I "love" feeling like this during prep cause that tells me that Im pushing myself and Im doing things the right way.

I recall having to wear a suit to work daily when I was a pharmaceutical rep. Then when I was a technical recruiter and a test engineer in my other corporate gigs the attire was business casual. Now as a coach and trainer I’m in runners, sweats, t’s and tank tops 90% of the time so going casual seems to be a semi big deal now. Funny I feel like I’ve gone backwards with my dress attire. I like to use the underhand grip when doing face pulls as it improves activation and it taps into a more corrective based range of motion for the shoulder and upper back. There’s lots of positives about sharing my private life on social media for everyone to see as MOST people genuinely like seeing good things, inspirational things, positive things as it moves them to strive for better. However the down side is that there are a few disgusting people out there that are miserable and dissatisfied with one or more aspects of their lives and rather than putting action behind the drive to change those things for the better they choose the least productive route and take to social media and lash out at random people they don’t even know. I call these “virtual nuts” or “internet nuts” as it’s the only time and place where they’d have the gall to attack people minding their own business. Thankfully there’s less trash floating around and there is more people migrating towards positive camaraderie and sense of community. Generally, I think people understand the importance of surrounding urself with all things good and positive to stay in that light or to get away from what was holding them back. To these people trying to do better... I’m down with that! For that minority group that choose to live in the gutter... Stay shitty and leave the “come up” to those getting after it.  As much as we dislike roaches they serve a purpose in this ecosystem. www.ajfit.online
