The Plateau - Enchanted - Waingongoro Loop has to be one of the best day walks there is!
Only 4 hours to take in the most mesmerising waterfalls, twisting moss covered trees & dense forests of Mount Taranaki, Egmont National Park 👍😎🌿📸💧

I heard that Purple Hill was steep, and it didn't disappoint me.
At the start I was so excited to get going, but that didn't last long when the uphill really kicked in. The gradient at times was unbelievable and I was holding onto the grass just to keep balance.
All the feelings of doubt went through my head on the way up - why are you doing this to yourself, what's the point in this pain, why do you even want to walk up here. The drive for coffee at the top kept pushing me on.
After a false summit, some rock climbing, and a shingle scree (or two) later I finally reached the top, with my legs shaking more than they ever have climbing up a mountain.
I went to pull out the camera for a photo, no battery. Pull out my phone, no battery.
I thought 'fine' I'll have a coffee and some kai then head down - got my cup, hot water, and aeropress out of my bag, but forgot to pack the coffee - in a right mood now, I spent an hour and a bit sliding down a shingle scree to the car.
Turned on the car to charge my phone, took off my shoes (my feet were throbbing), and walked into Lake Pearson to cool them down.
What a painful day. If you feel like pushing yourself past what you think you were capable of I highly recommend this hike. .
Camped here many times but never shot sunrise. Funny how you often overlook the things you see everyday.

This night was so incredible. We hiked in the dark and down to the tasman glacier, having never tried astro photography before I was amazed that the milky way could be seen by the human eye, I guess that's what happens when you get out of the city. And then to look back at the photos and notice some sort of gravity waves across the sky! This world is so damn awesome.
