Next steps of my funny project: the B-17G from Airfix in 1/72 - after coating the first alu attempt with aqua gloss I sprayed everything over again with alclad airframe aluminum and once again sealed with aquagloss before I started to apply the decals... Now I am content with the look of the material 😊
This is my Hawker Typhoon of No.266 Squadron, 2nd Tactical Air Force, Royal Air Force, operating in Holland and Germany in April/May 1945. The airfix kit is absolutely wonderful and went together without any problems. The RAF camo however was unsatisfactory as it was difficult to get a uniform green color over multiple layers of paint. Overall it’s a great kit and highly recommended!
The golden Hind(e) is one of those vessels that achieved legendary status by circumventing the globe when such a feat required more than watching movies in a somewhat uncomfortable seat for a few dozen hours.
However this ship didn't just sail the seven seas, it also participated in the english armada that stopped the Spanish in 1589. This makes it a perfect example of the brave indomitable spirit that lead to Britain ruling the waves. .. I bought this lovely Airfix kit in Plymouth many years ago and finishing it was a real joy (apologies for the amateur-hour rigging!) #goldenhind#airfix#modelship#modelkit#scalemodel#francisdrake#england
Picked up a couple of goodies.
I couldn’t pass up a B-26 as, like the B-25, it holds some nostalgia for me. In typical old tool Airfix fashion the molding looks decent enough with raised panel lines. Looks like another scribing job. ————————————————————————
I gave up on finding a P-51A in 1:144. A conversation with a couple of the model heads over at @colparsaurora confirmed its non-existence, so I stumbled upon the next best thing. A B-25H in 1:144! And it already has 1st Air Commando markings. ————————————————————————
Last, but not least I have enough RAF aircraft in my stash to warrant a ground crew set. The plastic on these guys is a lot darker and quite soft compared to Airfix’s standard found in aircraft kits. #airfix#airfixmodels#scalemodel#scalemodeling
Alu finish with several different alclad II paints and chrome powder from Uschi van der Rosten. This plane develops to an assembling of a lot of mistakes, off tracks and trial and errors... In fact I am very curious how the aircraft will look like when finished. Next step: decals.
