One health expert I enjoy listen to is Dr. Rhonda Patrick. She’s a Ph.D. in biomedical science and has some interesting findings on the overwhelming evidence indicating extraordinary benefits of regular Sauna use.

Below is something she recently posted... “A new study found that using the sauna decreased a biomarker of inflammation (CRP) in a dose-dependent manner...meaning the more frequent the sauna use the more robust the effect of lowering inflammation. This study was published early this year from with one of the world's leading sauna researchers, Dr. Jari Laukkanen. He has also shown dose-dependent effects with sauna use on cardiovascular disease, all-cause mortality, and Alzheimer's disease. Using the sauna 2-3 times per week (20 minutes at 174º F) was associated with: 27% lower cardiovascular disease risk, 24% lower all-cause mortality, and a 20% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease compared to men that only used the sauna one time per week. Using the sauna 4-7 times per week (20 minutes at 174º F) was associated with: 50% lower cardiovascular disease risk, 40% lower all-cause mortality, and a 66% lower risk of dementia and a 65% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease compared to men that used the sauna once a week.

Sometimes you just gotta take the small victories where you can find 'em! It's that attitude of gratitude that can brighten your whole day.
But more seriously, as the body ages, it can begin to play really *fun* tricks on you ;) Most seniors once had a body that was a one time much stronger, sexier, more athletic, more resilient, or more capable than the one they are living with now. These changes that often lead to a decline in physical independence can cause frustration and can lead to feelings of anxiety and depression. Those sentiments are only further compounded when the senior feels that their physical limitations become a burden or a hindrance to the loved ones who they interact with or who take care of them.
So why are we bringing this up? Well, because we think it’s an important reminder to be empathetic. For anyone who is new to care taking or who has struggled to relate to their elders, we encourage empathy. Ask yourself, “Do you think Grandpa really wants to have to go to the bathroom 15 times and if he sits for too long his hip starts causing him shooting pain?” More often than not, at some point, your grandpa had a healthy, young body, so you can guess that this is probably more frustrating for him than we could ever imagine.
We encourage patience and compassion. Focusing on what the senior CAN do, and then making it as easy as possible for them to ask for help when the CANT do something.
