Training gear.
Since you wanted some training videos, I've recorded this little one on weaving through legs 🙂 Please keep in mind that Cheddar is a hip dysplasia survivor and I don't expect from him to be super fast in it or sit right away. I give him the time and space, so he feels comfortable.
As a behaviorist and positive dog trainer I don't use much 'tools', when training dogs. My gear is basically as simple as:
* flat collar/harness,
* leash,
* long line,
* toys,
* treats.
That's it! And believe me it works the best 🙂
Together with items mentioned above I have some helpful gear, like @themuttmall treat bag, that allows me to take a lot of tasty snacks with me on training. I had a bunch of treat bags already, but this one is probably the best size for me, it holds so many treats! It is very handy and helpful throughout training sessions. You should get one 🙂
The only complaint I could make is about the color, which I actually chose different before receiving the bag.
@themuttmall treat bag is also very well made and seems to be strong and will serve us for many years.
We recommend,
Ewa&Cheddar 🐾

Puppy teeth.
Everybody knows that feeling when a puppy bites your hand. Ouch! That can really hurt, right?
Puppies have 28 sharp like needle teeth, that eventually falls out and are replaced with beautiful set of 42 permanent teeth.
Did you know that dogs are born toothless, just like people?
Teeth eruption start at about 2 weeks of age. Usually puppies start to loose their 'baby' teeth at about 4 months of age, and the last ones to loose are canine teeth around 6 months of age. By the time your dog reaches 7-8 months he should have a full set of permanent teeth.
But before this happen they feel a strong urge to bite and chew. Whoever had a chance to be around teething baby or had their wisdom tooth come out with pain, can understand more what puppies are going through.
It is important to provide chew toys for them, ones that they may even destroy.
If you struggle with and are annoyed of puppy bites there are few things you can do.
1️⃣Redirect their attention to the toy.
2️⃣Make sqeaky winning noise.
3️⃣Stand up or even leave the room if needed.

FECEVA (Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations) posted a very important message lately! One that is close to my heart and makes it skip a beat for a while 🙂
The use of prong collars has been forbidden in Netherlands since July 1st 2018.
In Animal Law and so-called 'Animal Act' states that it is forbidden to mistreat animals or to neglect animals. For example, it is forbidden to dump, hit or kick an animal. On 1 July it was added that the use of or tying an animal with an object which can cause pain by sharp protrusions is prohibited. This includes the so-called 'prong collars', collars with sharp points of mostly metal or plastic, intended to pierce the neck of an animal. According to this new act it is forbidden to use prong collars in anti-pulling training.
The first country to ban this was Austria in 2004. Then it happened in Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, some regions of Italy and Australia, New Zealand. In the United Kingdom, Luxembourg or Spain there are educational campaigns aimed at issuing a total ban on the use of prong collars.

@rcpetproducts
Belive it or not this is the first leash and collar set Cheddar ever had. Usually he had different leash pattern and totally different collar/harness🙈 Well now he could participate in doggy fashion show with his new matching leash and collar. Also thanks to @rcpetproducts now we finally have one of each different type of leashes. Retractable, lenght changable and this simple 6' (1,8m) long leash. They all serve a different purpose for me and all are needed.
@rcpetproducts have many, many patterns to choose from, so I am sure you will find something you like, just like I did, it was love at first sight 😂 haha I really really enjoy seeing Cheddar in this set and my only complaint would be - the pattern should be on both sides of leash. I'm just so proud of it I get mad when it flips around and people can't see our beautiful gear 🙈
Hey! Did I mention it has a little plastic circle on handle that I can hook the poop bag dispenser to it? So handy! 🙂 also it allows me to circle around my waist twice and hook to it so it would stay put on my belly (now that i'm pregnant, but usually it will stay on my hips), when Cheddar is off the leash. I don't need to worry about loosing it (yeah I'm that person 😂) or carrying it around.

@nutriqusa
If you want to keep that Monday on moving faster you've gotta supplement your dog's hips and joints 😀 He will have much more fun and time will fly faster 😉
Supplementing Cheddar's joints is a must do after dealing with hip dysplasia. Every day he gets his tasty @nutriqusa treats that help him stay healthy and active. You can tell he likes them, right? 🙂 and they have antioxidants and omega-3 acids.

It's gotten awfully quiet over here. Please, accept my apologies. We're dealing with acute infection with a allergy background I believe, and due to this bad condition half of Cheddar's face had to be shaved a bit shorter and I'm spending a lot of time cleaning his wounds.
Big thanks to all of you that messaged us asking how he feels and wishing him to get better soon. This means a lot to me, thank you for your support!♥️ Special thanks to @psiegryzki for all the help 💖
Please keep him in your prayers!🙏
Here is a picture from our last adventure before discovering the infection🙂 I really like the shot and edit (that took me a lot of time BTW). I'm sorry for not being this active and not posting anything educational.
Keep your dogs healthy 💪💗

Introducing new dog.
Adding brand new pup to your canine flock can bring some new challenges as well. It matters how and where do you introduce your dogs to each other. Usually it's safer to set the first meeting in a place, that none of the dogs identifies as home. Neutral ground and exhausted dogs are your friends. Tired dogs are easier to control, they don't have access of energy, furthermore they won't get over excited and less likely to get into fight.
Let the dogs see each other from a distance and slowly, on loose leashes, let them sniff and check each other out. Don't force them to interact, if they ignore each other that's totally fine. If all dogs seem friendly take them home and repeat the process of introduction, first in the yard then inside.
Keep in mind that some dogs like to play fight, but if it seems too rough, you should seperate them and create a distance for a minute or two. This doesn't mean they do go along or shouldn't be around each other. Just let them relax a bit and the play can start again.
It is normal to some extent. If you notice a lot of anger and aggression in one or both of the dogs, limit their access to one another as much as possible and reach out for help to a behaviorist or positive dog trainer to deal with aggression to other dogs.

Bath time.
Since Cheddar recently 'swam' with frogs in their kingdom and swimming in the lake and the river did not help to wash out and get rid of a bad stink ... I was time to give him a bath with soap in the lead role. He was not happy, but oh well. Unanimously with my husband (because you know children and doggies do not have voice😂) we decided that you need to get rid of this unpleasant odor.
After bathing, it's time to dry with towels, which is what Cheddar likes the most😉 And then only bribing with delicious @crumpsnatural treats and now exhausted from all this he is resting next to me in the living room. And only wavy hairs on his ears still remind us of bathing 😍 ♥ ️
Let me tell you, that now it's so nice to sit in one room with our golden😂
BTW. So proud of his 'hold it' ♥️

Panting - happy or scared?
First of all dogs can’t sweat through their skin like we do to cool off. They do sweat through their paw pads, but circulate the necessary air through their bodies to cool down by panting.
Panting is also a warning sign of heatstroke, poisoning (when accompanied by vomiting or lethargy), allergic reaction (affecting the ability to breathe), heart issues.
Dogs may also pant from being stressed or anxious. At that time it may have nothing to do with trying to cool off. And even though it looks like your dog may be awfully happy... He's not! This could happen during car rides, shooting fireworks, vet visits or any other stressful situations. To help you understand if your dog is showing a sign of fear you should take a look at his whole body to determine whether he is afraid or not.
Panting can actually be a sign of excitement or happiness as well. Again to figure out what is going on check your dog's body language. He may be wagging his tail in a happy way, he'll seem to be relaxed, his eyes will be sparkling happy.

Why did I choose Golden Retriever?
Ever since I was a little girl (about 9 years old) I dreamed of a Golden Retriever. At that time I went on my schoolmate's birthday party and his family owned the most beautiful and the nicest dog I have ever seen. It was a male Golden Retriever. He was the sweetest playing with us hide and seek and other kiddy games. And the bond he had with my friend was amazing!
For almost 12 years owning a Golden Retriever was my goal. I was obsessed with any Golden I saw on the street. I even remember riding with my oldest brother to school and out of no where I started screaming in a high pitched voice. My brother got scared and put his foot on the break. 'What? What?! Why are you screaming?'. And with the biggest smile on my face I replied 'Aaaaww! Look at that Golden over there!' 😂
So finally when I started my own family I decided to get a dog of my dreams. And even though I did a lot of research to match the dog to me it turned out Golden would be perfect for me. And it really is! Even though Cheddar feels like a rescue, because of all his health issues, I wouldn't change my best friend to any other dog.
Why did you choose the breed (or mix of breeds) you own?

Halfway...
Yay to Wednesday, weekend is halfway there. But there are things you can't do half the way, like training your dog. Why? Simply because you will not see results or they will be decreasing (slowly disappearing).
It's like taking this shot. I was happy how the sun got into Cooper's back, it gives it a nice look... But both dogs are out of focus.
That's an example of a photo that's just half of the way to perfection.
If you want your dog to listen and be well-mannered don't leave commands half-finnished. You want your dog to walk nicely in the leash, then don't be inconsistent! 50% is not the way to go when training dogs. You need to give 100% of you, try your best and really think what you're doing and why.
Half-heartedly you will always face fails.
I know I won't give up on trying to make a perfect sunset photo of Cheddar. I'll strive to perfection, you should do this when training your dog. Set some goals to reach and do anything to achieve them!
Stay tuned 💪

Impulse control.
Impulse control is a very important aspect of dog training. Learning commands does not end at home or in the yard. It just starts outside. On walks around the neighborhood, on the fields, in the forests, among other dogs, people, wild animals ...
When we moved to the United States, very interesting and tempting we're many squirrels, as well as small wild rabbits (Eastern Cottontail Rabbit). They are everywhere here, running around gardens, houses and even in downtown. It is not difficult to meet these animals on walk. At the beginning, after our arrival in Kansas, Cheddar, with his dog's nature, wanted to chase, what was running away. However, he quickly learned not to pay attention to them, even ignore them and usually we do not even notice their presence during walks. Sometimes he will run two steps, but it is enough that he hears the word 'No' and is back to normal. I am very proud of him, especially because of our walks together with my daughter in a stroller. Security (and obedience) in the first place! 🙂

@crumpsnaturals
Training sessions are very important when raising a well-behaved dog. Since we believe Dog Positive Reinforcement Training is the most effective you need to have amazing rewards for your dog. Cheddar is not that fond of food, sometimes I have to ask him to eat or make his meal more attractive (adding sour cream, raw egg, wet food, raw meat... etc.). We usually work for play - fetch, tug of war or playing soccer ♥️
But you don't want to be boring for your pup! That's why mix it up with some good quality treats. They are the best when introducing to new trick or training at home.
Some time ago we received treats from @crumpsnaturals, thanks to @pupfluence. Both mini trainers and gutsy's are great size for rewarding Cheddar and he seems to enjoy them. We took our time to try them out and Cheddar does like to get them in exchange for practicing his skills. Check out the story to see his 'hold it', he improved so much with it I am able to take some shots with my dslr!
We recommend,
Ewa&Cheddar 🐾

Diving dogs.
Is your dog amazing in the water? Do you ever see him diving in to catch something that is not sinking? Does he love to jump in from a dock? If yes they you may be interested in one of the fastest growing sports in North America - Diving dogs!
The deal is to throw your dog's favorite toy into the pool while he awaits on the dock for your signal. On your command, he runs along the dock, flings himself off the end of it, lands in the water and grabs his toy. The goal is to have the longest jump possible.
Be aware of the issue called water intoxication. If they ingest too much water they can suffer water intoxication that can be extremely serious very quickly. Toxicity begins when a dog has consumed about a third of their body weight in water, which may mean that for smaller and thinner dogs it is much more dangerous.
Drinking excessive water causes the sodium-potassium levels in the blood to become unbalanced, which causes cells to increase fluid intake.
First signs of water intoxication include lethargy, lack of coordination, bloating, vomiting, excessive drooling, pale gums, and dilated pupils or glazed eyes. Advanced symptoms include difficulty breathing, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
Luckily water intoxication is not that common.

Kids and dogs.
One of the most important thing when raising a child in a house with a dog alongside is to learn dog's body language. No, scratch it... It's the most important thing!
Without knowing your pup's language you are not able to predict his behavior. And believe me dogs send tons of signals when communicating with each other and with us. When you have both kids and dog at home you have to make sure you can recognize when your furry kid is not comfortable. If you can't do that, then you are putting your kids in danger as much as your dog.
There are calming and warning signals that your dog is sending before he will attack. It's very important to always be around when your children are interacting with your dog. Never leave them alone. You have got to be there ALWAYS ready to step in as soon as you notice your pup is showing he's not happy with what's happening. He will be sending calmins signals at that time. They can be quite visible, like turning his head away, walking away; or harder to see if you don't pay attention, like yawning, lip licking, blinking, showing the whites of eyes. Your canine friend is trying to say this is a stressful situation to him and he wants you to back off and give him some space.
If you wait too long your dog will start warning before attacking, snapping the air, teeth showing, growling or even nipping. After that the real attack will come.
Decide yourself when is the safest moment to stop the 'play' of your child with dog.

Positive and negative.
If you look at the training technics and definitions there is both positive and negative reinforcement and punishment (I like to mess it up and use good and bad punishment terms). Positive reinforcement is simple and everybody knows it. You want your dog to repeat the behavior simply reward it with a treat, toy or attention.
Negative reinforcement rewards your dog taking something away. Let's say your dog is pulling and you use a prong collar. He pulls - gets chocked and it loosen up - that's the reward.
Bad punishment (positive - where you add something to your dog) is one that causes pain or discomfort to your dog. Tightening the collar, shocking, slapping, being hit by a newspaper or kicked etc.
Good (negative - where you take something away from the dog) is one that speaks to the dog the most, as they want our attention more than anything and really their main job is to make us happy.
Ignoring, taking the toy and turning away/walking away is devastating for them. You're taking away attention. That's also a punishment. But one, that works much better than causing pain.
Because it works on dog's brain, make him think about what just happened, why did you leave? Why did the game stop? Next time he will be more cautious.
Positive training is based on both positive reinforcement and negative (good) punishment.

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

Zebra-dog.
Ridiculous! That's the word you're looking for when you see dogs coats cut in special shapes and died to look like some wild animals, like zebra, panda, lion, tiger, giraffe; cartoon characters or rainbows with flowers etc.
No, this is not cute! No, it doesn't serve any purpose! And YES! It is disrespectful for dogs!
Again. It is ridiculous! They are not toys, they are living creatures, if you want to be artsy... Use wood, stone, iron, paper! Do not use animals for showing your artsy nature, it is not tasty.
Let your dog be a dog, let him be what he was ment to be, let him be your companion in natural way.
I already have my strong opinion about dressing up dogs in costumes, putting some weird decorations on them, but this...
Creative grooming - I will never be OK with this. You? (Google creative grooming or check my story to see some examples)

4th of July fireworks massacre!
Everybody knows that dogs and fireworks generally do not mix up! Some dogs have no problem with the sight and sound of fireworks if they’ve been desensitized — hunting dogs, for example, grow used to the sounds and smells of hunting rifles and gun powder. Most dogs, however, are not used to these things, so the Fourth of July can be very stressful holiday.
Statistics say that, more pets run away on the Fourth of July than any other day, so make sure your pet is wearing his ID tag!
What seems to be the problem with fireworks?
Fireworks are loud! Unexpected - sudden noise! Your dog may feel trapped and vulnerable.
It is natural for dogs to be afraid of loud noises. The sounds trigger their nervous systems, and they can become anxious or afraid. Running away from the noise is their natural survival instinct.
If you do find it necessary to use medication to calm your dog during the fireworks, ask your vet for help with choosing the right pill. You may also find it useful to try thundershir or learn how to tie the anxiety wrap using a scarf.
If you’re not making a big deal, showing excitement about the fireworks or giving your dog too much attention when he gets afraid then he will learn to be less concerned as well.
Remember to take your dog on a long walk to loose the excess energy, before the fireworks start.

Muddy Dog Challenge.
The Muddy Dog Challenge would be amazing for me and Cheddar! Just read about it:
Muddy Dog Challenge is a new obstacle race in UK, and it lets you team up with your favorite furry friend to complete each messy challenge on the course.
Human and canine companions can run either the 2.5-kilometer or 5-kilometer course, both of which include tons of green space, tire obstacles, water, slides, tunnels and, of course, mud.
All proceeds from The Muddy Dog Challenge go to the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, a huge animal sanctuary in the UK.
One participant can only have one dog, that must stay on the lead at all times (it's recommended to use a harness and normal leash - not a retractable one) also participants must pick up after their dogs.

We sort of had our own muddy dog challenge at the dog park last night, when they turned on sprinklers😂 just look at those three muddy pups! 😍

Muddy Dog Challenge. The Muddy Dog Challenge would be amazing for me and Cheddar! Just read about it: Muddy Dog Challenge is a new obstacle race in UK, and it lets you team up with your favorite furry friend to complete each messy challenge on the course. 😍 #agent_Cheddar  • • • • • • #grlgcrew  #puptrew5  #sunshinepets1  #gotbark0618  #whprelax  #weeklyfluff  #pupliker4  #bestwoof  #dogoftheday  #goldenboy  #dogadventures  #retrieveroftheday  #dogsthathike  #thegreatoutdogs  #exploringtheworld  #dirt  #ilovegolden_retrievers  #cutest_goldens  #cutestgoldens  #gloriousgoldens  #goldenpupsquadfeature  #goldenretrieversworld  #goldenretriever  #englishcreamretriever  #dirtydog  #bestvideooftheday  #dogvideo  #puppyvideo  #muddy
Floppy ears.
Have you ever thought about dog's floppy ears? Why do they have them and how did they develop that appearance?
Dogs and wolves have the same ancestors, yet many of out pups have floppy ears, when their wild companions have perky, upright ears. Furthermore! The only wild animal that has floppy ears is an elephant!
So how on earth did we (humans) developed dropping ears in dogs, some cats, rabbits, cattle, horses and other livestock?
As early as in 1868, Charles Darwin believed that "The incapacity to erect the ears, is certainly in some manner the result of domestication." And it looks like he was right. A century later Russian geneticist Dmitry Belyayev attempted to domesticate the silver fox. In just a few dozen generations, Belyayev's foxes were tame and their ears started to become floppier. Selecting for a change in behavior led to an unexpected change in appearance.
Domesticated animals not only tend to have floppy ears, but also shortened snouts, patchy coats, smaller teeth and reduced brain size along the way. All these listed qualities are so called 'domestication syndrome'. Than can we risk saying that floppy ears=less aggressive behavior?

@doggiedailies
Do you see that amazing set of products? Advanced hip and joint supplements, probiotics and an ear wash! Both supplements and probiotics are chews (treats), so there is really no problem for your dog to eat it 🙂 Cheddar likes the chicken flavor of supplements and duck flavor of probiotics.
The ear wash is not his favorite, but well what's there to like, right? It does a good job cleaning his ears and works well with our muddy/watery pup 👍
And it all comes with a giant @doggiedailies bag! 😍 this can hold not only @doggiedailies supplies, but also other gear we have like brushes, treat bag, treats and chews, dog waste bags etc. I really like how we can have everything we need for Cheddar in one spot, even his toys! 🙂
We recommend,
Ewa&Cheddar🐾

Happy hump day... So why do dogs really do it?
Humping, or mounting, is an obvious sexual position for dogs, but it often is done for other reasons as well. Both males and females perform that behavior (although it's more common to see in males), even by dogs that have been neutered or spayed.
Mounting is common play behavior in puppies, and is even normal in the play of older dogs if it’s not taken to extremes.
Humping can be related to high excitement levels, so training can take the energy level down. Humping can be also a sign of dominance, stress reliever or seeking for attention.
Some dogs can become very compulsive about the behavior. Watch for early signs of mounting, and take appropriate steps to discourage them as soon as they arise. The longer your dog practices his mounting behavior, the harder it is to change.

Identification.
One of the responsibilities of being a parent is making sure a child knows his address and telephone number. You can't teach that your dog, no matter how much you try and how intelligent they are. That is why you need to have your pet marked.
There are three ways to do that:
1️⃣ ID tag - the easiest and probably the most common way - with your current address and phone number is supposedly the best way to help your pet when being lost. It's the fastest way to call the dog's owner. (Our USA tag is from @shiznitdog and I love it!) Make sure it is always attached to the collar/harness!
2️⃣ Microchip - is a permanent ID that goes beneath tour pet's skin. Microchip cannot be removed, lost or impossible to read. Having a microchip implanted does not require anesthectic and wouldn't hurt more than routine vaccination. Microchips carry only a unique identification number, not your personal information. If your pet gets lost and is taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter, your pet will be scanned for a microchip to reveal his unique ID number and being able to check the owner's information then.
3️⃣ ID Tatoos - (in Poland) have few digits and a letter, take approximately few seconds and is done either on dog's ear or inner thigh at few weeks old (in USA are usually done after spaying/neutering shelter animals to identify the procedure). This identification method may be controversial, who knows how much it hurts?Cheddar has a tattoo in left ear, done when he was still at breeders, if it was my decision I wouldn't do that (his tattoo actually gave me an idea for this profile name - I may have a giveaway soon with some cool prizes to whoever guesses his tattoo!🎉🎊).
Believe it or not there are some people that actually put their dogs under anesthesia to create a tattoo for the sake of art, such as flowers, hearts, quotes or artsy designs. Now few digits doesn't sound so bad, right?

Docking and cropping.
Two surgical procedures that happens shortly after birth - ear cropping and tail docking - have long been routine in certain breeds like Dobermans, German shorthaired pointers, and schnauzers.
Docking’s (removing part or all of a dog’s tail, usually with surgical scissors) usually performed by a veterinarian or breeder without anesthesia, although it certainly causes pain, the puppy isn’t fully alert yet and won’t remember it.
Cropping's (cutting off the floppy part of a dog’s ear) is usually performed on anesthetized dogs between 6 and 12 weeks old. The ears are then taped to a hard surface for several weeks while they heal so they stay upright.
Both of these procedures are banned in Poland, since year 2012. Tail docking is banned in many parts of the world, including Australia and the U.K. In the U.S., they are not banned or controlled, but are highly controversial. New York and Vermont have considered legislation to ban them, but neither state has so far.

Both docking and cropping are done mostly for appearance’s sake, but some owners believe ear cropping lowers the odds of infections. Research shows that at least 80 percent of dogs won’t get ear infections, and the breeds that are most likely to get them, such as cocker spaniels and poodles, don’t get their ears cut. Many vets believe docking itself could be considered an injury. And research shows that an intact tail is unlikely to become injured, and if it does, injuries are usually minor and heal easily.
Studies show that dogs communicate emotions like anger and excitement by wagging their tails, so docking may interfere with your dog’s ability to interact with other dogs. Ears play a big role as well. Dogs with ears standing straight up many times get misunderstood with their friendly approach as an attack.
You have to weight it yourself what's more important - aesthetic or your dog's ability to communicate well with others. For me, as a behaviorist, the answer is simple. Leave your dog's ears and tail alone!
What is your opinion?

Separation anxiety.
Recently I have been shocked by the lack of knowledge about dogs and canine psychology in a statistic American.
Now, just for the record, this is only my point of view and what I discovered after couple of months living in USA. This is not based on any scholarly article, statistics or scientific discovery.
Since we moved here, which is exactly 2 months now, I have seen so many dogs on walks with their owners I could show the fingers on my one hand. More than that, there are people who bring their dogs to the dog park and knows squad about their friend or can't control their behaviors. Furthermore there are plenty that suffers frombehavioral problems such as separation anxiety and the owner knows it and also knows how to name this problem (shocking)... Yet does nothing to help their companion. Dogs get a quick 'run' in their yard to pee and poop in the morning and then they spend 8 hours or more being locked in their cage, when the owner is working! Because he destroyed couch! He ate my door! Ripped off the carpet... AND they don't try to train it out! They don't even know you can do something about it.
This makes me very sad.
Separation anxiety is said to be number one problem with dogs, but if you don't give your dog enough exercise he needs DO NOT expect him to be well mannered, when left alone for so many hours! They get bored, frustrated, scared you will never come back... If you are dealing with separation anxiety first of all give your pup that long walk in the morning and please start training (recommended with dog trainer or behaviorist)! Help your friend to be fully happy! 🙂

Yulin Dog Meat Festival
Yulin Dog Festival is an annual celebration held in Yulin, China, that begins on 21St June and ends on 30th June. Each and every year during about ten days it is estimated that 10,000–15,000 dogs are consumed (although some news said international pressure has seen this figure cut to about 3,000). People believe eating dog meat on this day will bring good luck.
The festival organizers claim the dogs are killed humanely... Google the name of festival (if you have nerves of steel), doesn't look humanely to me! Many dogs suffer before being killed, there are videos of dogs being beaten to death with metal bars, skinned alive, boiled alive and suffer many diseases.
You would think it must be an ancient tradition... But it all started in year 2009! In XXI century!
Some information providers also claims many of those dogs were stolen pets from their families!
Visit www.StopYulinForever.org and sign petition to stop this horrible, cruel tradition NOW!
In total, 30million dogs a year are killed across Asia for their meat, between 10million and 20million in China alone.

Happy gotcha day Cheddar 💗
Here is to 2 amazing years together!🎉🎊
We have been through so much together... Hip dysplasia - two surgeries, cryptorchidism - medical need of neutering surgery, big move from Poland to USA...
And I can't imagine life without him. I know I should be happy, but there are days when I look at him, being all grown up, playing with my daughter, seeing how she cherishes him! And all I can think is... 'How badly we are going to miss him?', 'How much longer do we have together?', 'How well/bad will our daughter take it?'...
He was there when little bean was growing in my belly, cuddling to it as a puppy (I have some cute photos how he and pregnancy belly getting big). He was there, almost all grown up, when my daughter was born. Each and every month until one year old he is there on photos with her.
He is here... Letting her walk him.
I wish he could be forever, and that's what I wish him. Cheddar! Live long and happy life, free of pain and problems. 'To be dirty or not to be' - may that be our toughest question with you 😂
We love you,
Hemmy family 💟
Swipe to see his first photo when coming home 😍

'To be dirty or not to be' - may that be our toughest question with you 😂 We love you, Hemmy family 💟 Swipe to see his first photo when coming home 😍 #agent_Cheddar  • • • • • • #grlgcrew  #pupsyrup2  #sunshinepets1  #gotbark0618  #whpplay  #weeklyfluff  #pupliker4  #bestwoof  #outsidelands  #videooftheday  #cutevideo  #puppyvideo  #puppylove  #bestdogever  #sendadogvideo  lsendadogvl #viralvideo  #borntotravel  #travelpassion  #dogbaby  #happygotchaday  #dogsandkids  #boopmynose  #gloriousgoldens  #goldenpupsquadfeature  #goldenretrieversworld  #goldenretriever  #englishcreamretriever  #dogvideo
Cleaning after your pup💩
So you've decided to get a dog knowing all the responsibilities it comes with... Well then take that bag and clean his business!
I really don't understand why some people have a problem with cleaning after your dog? Even when the city is providing free poop bags... It's a dirty job, of course! But who said owning a dog is all about fun? There is more to it then just cute petting time and short walks. There's shedding, dirty paws, vet visits, good quality food, monthly diseases preventions, long daily walks and adventures and picking up poops. It's all your responsibilities as you decided to own a dog. So don't just leave your dogs droppings💩 out there on people's yards, in parks or on the street/sidewalk.
And yes most of the dogs love getting dirty 😂 you gotta love it too and let them be happy 💗

Heartworm disease.
Since we moved to USA from Poland it has been and still is a great, new experience in many levels. Also in canine level. The most important thing I've learned was about heartworm disease. Thanks to my father-in-law Cheddar is (finally) going for his scheduled appointment on Friday to test him for heartworm disease and get him prevented. This is one of the things you don't get prepared for when moving across the world. I have NEVER heard about that issue back in Poland. We don't have our mosquitoes infected, so we do not need to use prevention on our dogs. I did my reaserch and found out theare where only few cases with heartworm disease in Poland, but the dogs that had that condition were visiting warmer countries and brought it back from vacation. I'm very happy our vet's appointment is coming on Friday, so that we can test and prevent Cheddar in order to keep him healthy over here.
For those that didn't know about this problem (like us):
Dog's get heartworms by a bite of infected mosquito. There is no way to tell which mosquito is infected, so prevention should be on top of your priorities in warm countries. It takes about seven months for the larvae to mature into adult heartworms. They then lodge in the heart, lungs, and surrounding blood vessels and begin reproducing. Adult worms can grow up to 12 inches in length, can live 5-7 years, and a dog can have as many as 250 worms in its system. Heartworms are not affecting people and once a dog has them he can't infect others, only an infected mosquito bite will cause your dog (or cat) to have worms. Treatment costs about $500-$1.000, not cured will cause death of your wiggly friend.

Individual trick training.
Trick training may be tricky. While some behavioral performances will be really easy for you and your dog to achieve, the others may be really problematic.
Why is that?
Usually because either you're trying to see the results too fast and take steps that are too big for your dog to understand or the method you're applying is not matching your dog.
For example a long time ago I tried to teach Cheddar 'be shy' trick, but failed using two or three methods. I gave up, but I know there would be a perfect method for him to understand what I want him to perform. Other trick - 'hold it' was also a trouble, but he made it. The problem was I was touching his chin and he was spitting it out. Why? Because when we play fetch or tug of war and I touch him under mouth - it's the sign for him to let go. I was getting frustrated he can't learn this, but once I realized my big mistake I couldn't be happier to know how smart he actually was. I changed my way of holding his face and then just made him focused on me. It was that simple.
So if you're struggling with training your pup some cute trick, think it through, try different method, change your way of approaching to training.
Good luck on the fun!

Solving behavioral problems.
When trying to solve dog behavioral problem we have got to answer few questions.
1️⃣First of all you need to name the problem - destructive behavior, aggression towards women, pulling on the leash... You need to understand that people may look differently at dog's behavior. What I'm trying to say is that for some of you jumping on furniture might be the worst thing your dog is doing, while the others love it.
2️⃣What's causing your dog to show that behavior (e.g. excitement, boredom, not enough exercise, fear, aggression, pain)?
Being able to answer this is probably the most important when trying to solve behavioral problems. Many cases can be easily solved by just adding more exciting chews, walks or a bit of training/avoiding things that cause your dog to manifest behavior you don't like.
If you realized the cause of bad behavior we gotta dig a little bigger. Let's say your dog is aggressive, reactive towards people and other dogs on the walk. There could be few reasons for that. It is the best if you know your dog's history so that you can establish whether he was trained to do so, he was never trained to not react this way or he is scared and afraid as he is having bad memories with people approaching him.
3️⃣Once you know everything about your dog's bad behavior you need to think how to help him. I would always suggest contacting experienced behaviorists or good positive trainers that would help you solve your problem. In many cases your dog will just need basic training, more exercises and his brain being used. Sometimes, with highly intelligent and energetic dogs advanced training, sports and solving different tasks could help with behavioral problems. Usually when dealing with a fearful or aggressive dog desensitization is what works the best - slowly presenting/getting your pup used to what seems to be the problem.

@doggiedailies
When you own a displastic pup you would do anything to help him enjoy the life. Cheddar had his hip dysplasia diagnosed at 9,5 months old, two weeks lateor he had his first surgery and another one a couple months later (on his first birthday). He is currently a little over two years old and doing quite fine, thanks to the surgeries and supplements. We've tried many, but never have I seen in Poland supplements for hips and joints as treats. I love it @doggiedailies! Cheddar does too! ❤️🐾
Joint health is important in terms of functional mobility and keeping your pup active.
Your dog’s joints also wear out as they move and age.
There are more ways you can show love to your canine companions than just giving them toys and treats.
Keep your dogs healthy, active, and happy as they age, taking care of their joints and bones.

Dog's body language.
Yesterday we went to the dog park in the US for the second time. It was a good experience. My dog is Polish-trained, I mean he knows all commands in Polish (and gestures). How will he understand his American doggy friends?
You know what? Cheddar did not have any problem in playing with American dogs, even though he does not know English. And that's all because dogs have their own, international language. Isn't that great you could get along with every representative of your genre on the entire globe?
Nevertheless, for us - the owners, this means one thing:
It is Your RESPONSIBILITY to learn the dog's body language, because your dog will not learn yours!
A short, but very important lesson. Start learning today 🙂

@petqwerks
Pet Qwerks DINOSAUR Bacon BarkBone is made in USA with love to our pups! Non-toxic, non-allergenic, FDA-compliant and safe for your dog!
At first I was a little skeptical about it, as it's said to be non-edible (not for eating). Contacting company was really easy and they replied both fast and explained everything. BarkBones are created for big chewers, made from nylon and flavored with bacon, peanut butter etc. Nylon bones are formulated so that tiny bits can be chewed off. If your dog is managing to chew off tiny bits he is likely not swallowing them but if he does there's no reason for alarm as they will safely pass. In time the ends of the nylon bones will appear rough from chewing. The resulting texture will help scrape tartar and help clean your dogs teeth.
Isn't that great? Not only your dog can fulfill his chewing needs, loose some excess energy and not be bored, but also he can clean his teeth at the same time! Awesome!
We recommend,
Ewa&Cheddar 🐾
BTW. Cheddar has mastered 'hold it'!💚 I'm so proud! We're still working on extending the time.

Hip dysplasia and diet.
Hip dysplasia is a deformity of the hip that occurs during growth. The hip joint is a "ball and socket" joint. During growth, both the "ball" (the head of the femur or thighbone) and the "socket" in the pelvis (acetabulum) must grow at equal rates.
Large breed (generally greater than 50 lbs) puppies should be kept at a normal, lean weight during growth, rather than overfed and encouraged to grow “big.”
One study of puppies at-risk for hip dysplasia found that when fed as much as they wanted to eat, two-thirds of the puppies went on to develop hip dysplasia, while only one-third of puppies fed measured meals suffered from hip dysplasia. A study of German shepherds found that overweight puppies were almost twice as likely to develop hip dysplasia.

Just a quick grocery shopping...
Recently I saw a video which has made me realised more people should hear about that. On that short video there was a male vet that went in a car and locked himself up with both clock and thermometer. He had all 4 windows cracked down about an inch (2,5cm) and started with about 94°F (36°C). Lets say you parked your car in front of grocery shop just to buy few things and you will be back in 5 minutes. After that time your car would reach nearly 100 degrees (38°C) and the air would get stiff. You can't find one product that you really need... 10 minutes, 106 degrees (41°C). On your way you bumped into an old high school friend, quick chatting... 15 minutes passed, 110 F (44°C), small or older dogs might have some serious trouble fighting for life. You remind yourself about your dog waiting in the car, so you say bye bye to a friend and rush to the cash registers, but... There is a line, well you gotta wait. 25 minutes, 113 F (45°C), Veterinarian is all sweated, but remember - dogs can't perspire!
There was a problem with using your card, so you had to write a check, but here you are half an hour later coming out of the store to your car... Not having your beloved furry friend or child anymore!
30 minutes in a parked car with the windows cracked, temperature 115F (46°C). Imagine the heat, no fresh air to breathe with and that pointless window digging - trying to get out. How hopeless must a dog feel being left in a hot car? How frightening must it feel to feel that heat and not being able to help yourself, not knowing when the owner will come back? And slowly the life and energy is being burned out of those innocent creatures...
Never, EVER leave your pet and kids in a parked car!

#agent_Cheddar  • • • • • • #lovelygrlg  #pupnero3  #bloomingpets1  #gotbark518  #whimagination  #weeklyfluff  #bestwoof  #pupliker3  #dogphotographer  #nikond3300  #photoshoot 📷 #dogphotoshoot  #darkplaces  #scaryland  #tallgrass  #forestwalk  #littleadventures  #adventuredog  #outsiders  #dogsthatexplore  #dogsthathike  #exploretheglobe  #hikingdogs  #editingskills  #newcamera  #gloriousgoldens  #embarkontheadventure  #goldenretriever
Aggression is the most common and most serious behaviorproblem in dogs. It’s also the number-one reason why pet parents seek professional help from behaviorists, trainers and veterinarians.
To say that a dog is “aggressive” can mean a whole host of things.
Dogs may be said to be aggressive when guarding food, toys, territory, mothers could be aggressive to protect their youngs, male dogs can be aggressive when fighting for a female or trying to establish dominance. Mant times aggression goes along with fear, if your dog is scared of other dogs or people he may tend to get rough on them.
The difference between an aggressive Maltese and an aggressive pit bull is that the bigger breeds can cause proportionately bigger damage, there are breeds with very strong yaws force and a lot of energy to not give up.
Dog exercise burns the dog's excess energy and helps maintain the dog's healthy state of mind.
It is important to keep things positive. Punishing your dog for aggressive behavior usually backfires and can escalate the aggression. If you respond to a growling dog by hitting or yelling, he may feel the need to defend himself by biting. Punishment may also lead to your dog biting without warning.
For example, if your dog growls at children, he is letting you know that he is uncomfortable around them. If you punish him for growling, he may not give this warning the next time he gets uncomfortable. He will simply bite.Aggression is not something that goes away overnight.
Although it can take several months or more, with patience and persistence you should see changes in your dog's behavior. For help, seek out a dog trainer or animal behaviorist.

Helping double-coated dogs deal with heat.
Since you already know why you should NEVER shave your double-coated pup (read in last photo), what can you possibly do to cool him down a bit?
Tour best friend is water! Take your dog to the lake, sea or even river. If you can't fill out a kiddy pool or a big bowl with water, sit down and just watch your dog getting crazy 😀 (you can always use water hose, just make sure the water isn't too cold).
If your dog is not a fan of water maybe he will like to play with ice cubes? They're both funny to play with and will cool your dog a little bit.
If this doesn't work you can always try using cooling mats, cooling beds or cooling vests for your dog.
Mostly please remember to fulfill your dog's exercising needs in the morning or in the afternoon when the temperature isn't so high. Also remember that you dog needs to have constant access to fresh cool water.

Hot summer temperatures around the corner, and you are wondering how to help your dog dealing with heat?
If you are the owner of a dog whose hair is growing all the time (eg Maltese, Lhasa Apso, Poodle), one of the solutions is a visit to the groomer and give your pup a haircut. However, if your four-legged friend has a double coat (undercoat and a guard hairs, eg Golden Retriever, German Shepherd) ... Do not do this to him!
The undercoat acts as an insulator - it protects against both low and high temperatures. Dogs with this type of hair should never be trimmed short/shaved. First of all, their fur loses its beautiful, natural appearance, the outer coat regrows for years (or never and never returns to its original state), and the undercoat multiplies into power (usually also becoming wavy). Shaving a dog with a double hair coat for the summer is really the opposite of helping to cool down. In addition to the destruction of hair, shaved dogs are susceptible to many complications, including alopecia, heat stroke and skin cancer. Sometimes these complications are not reversible.
With Cheddar, we see this process on his back and butt, which was shaved for hip surgeries. Although more than a year has passed, the main hair is still not fully grown (it is about 0.5-1cm), its backside is unpleasant compared to the coat present on the rest of his body, and above all seems incomplete. In addition, when combing you need to be more careful on this part of the body and be a bit more delicate. I do not know when (and if) his fur will return to normal, but I am waiting for it.
On Agent Cheddar Facebook page I share link with a great text of a long-term groomer with experience.
I recommend!

Different country, different phone number = new ID tag!
@shiznitdog tags are so unique, ours was especially made for Cheddar and now that design is named after him! How cool is that? 🐾
I love how strong and beautiful it is, makes my dog look even better. Amazingly we didn't know how the tag will look like, they kept it a secret, as we got it on Cheddar's second birthday 🙂 that was great!
Thank you for the surprise @shiznitdog ❤️

According to a study by American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from June 2012: * 93 percent of dogs and 75 percent of cats reported lost were returned safely to their homes.
* Only 6 percent of dog owners and 2 percent of cat owners found their lost pets at shelters.
* 15 percent of dogs were found because they were sporting identification tags or microchips.
Provide Your Cell Phone on Pet’s ID Tag, it supposedly will speed up the process of returning home by your dog.

From now on wherever I go... Cheddar is with me! Thanks to my newest phone case from @petsunitedus
Amazing design, perfect quality and that cheese 🧀 ||
Sometimes pet owners treat their pupils in quite a humane way, thinking they would act like people. Well they won't! They are dogs and if not taught they will not know even basic sit or understand why are they staying in crate and simply won't stop peeing in the house if not potty trained. Some people tend to even call those dogs stupid, when in fact they are just being dogs. Many years ago men took advance of sharing their live with dogs, hundreds years later here we are living with dogs in the same shelter/house. Dogs did well on adjusting to this situation, but they need a hand, a leader to have a happy life together. Don't forget to understand that your dog needs basic training, and simple rules; not only for your own good, but especially for the dog's calmer state of mind.

Zak George (dog trainer) distinguishes three levels of energy in dogs. A dog’s energy level is probably the most important factor to consider when choosing a dog. Of course there are other very important characteristics of a dog, like age, breed and sex. But certainly no matter what breed you choose (or breed mix) the energy level of your dog is going to establish your life together.
Before choosing the dog make sure you visit the breeder or shelter few times to get a more complete sense of what's the dog's personality. You wouldn't want to end up with hyper energy dog when your life style is quite mellow. In this situation you should look for low energy dogs (level one). Those dogs likes to lie around for most of the time, they require few short daily walks and just cuddle to you for the rest of the day.
Medium energy dogs (level two) are usually lazy for the most of the day, except short periods of craziness when they burst out with energy. They are good for people who likes to stay at home, but also spend some quality time on adventures.
Highly energetic dogs (level three) are ment for active people, that have time to raise the dog that requires regular exercise and serious training. These dogs are always ready to work and could play all day (and night). You need to make sure a three level energy dog gets plenty of mental and physical exercise. If you don't it will lead to destructive behaviors.
Generally speaking the more energy a dog has, the more trainable he is.

[Home alone-house] Obesity.
Obesity is the number-one health problem in dogs.
According to statistics about 22% of dog owners believe their dogs are in perfect shape, when in fact they are overweight or obese.
If your pet is overweight or obese, it can cause arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, certain cancers, heart and respiratory disease, and other problems.
According to the Purina Lifespan Study, obesity takes almost two years off a dog's life.

Several studies suggest that pet obesity could be linked to human obesity. If an owner overeats, they are likely to provide the same level of food to their pet.

Two dog breeds that are considered high-risk for obesity are Labradors and Golden Retrievers.
Pet weight is harder to lose, than human: one pound lost in a canine is the equivalent to five human pounds. That means that each pound lost will be gradual and significant.
The five US states that rank highest for obese dogs are: Minnesota, Nebraska, Michigan, Idaho and Nevada.

Dear Insta-friends! 💚
Our big journey starts tomorrow. I know I couldn't make it shorter or more pleasurable for Cheddar than we have planned. Everything is ready, we are going to leave early in the morning to catch the plane in the afternoon. When we get to Warsaw (the capital of Poland) we will stop for at least an hour walk with Cheddar and hopefully a tiring one. After this walk he will get water with his calming herbal drops (he's been getting them for over few days now) and... That's the last thing I can do to control his flight. To make him more comfortable. Later on strangers are going to be moving him into the plane to the room that animals travel in. I found out there will be two other small dogs in one crate. Hopefully they will go along well.
As soon as we get to Chicago and I'll be connected to the internet I will update you about our trip✈️
Please keep us in your prayers, we are in need of your support right now! 🙏
I'm praying God will take care of us all and won't let anything bad happening to any of us.
Thank you for all the messages you've sent me already! Thank you for caring! 💚

Consistency.
Consistency is the most important part of dog training. Without this, you can say goodbye to a nice walk on a loose leash, a quiet dog, when you prepare food for your four-legged friend or perfect recall.
Let's focus on how the dog perpetuates the information. First of all, they learn the fastest if they get simple and clear rules, for example, a ban on entering the couch or a calm sitting down while buckling a leash before going for a walk. Consistency is the most important thing, because it is the one that gives clear signals to your pet.
Imagine this: your dog is not allowed on bed... but when your husband is at work and you have a day off you let your dog on with you for cuddles. What kind of information does your dog receives? I'm not allowed on bed, but sometimes if I try hard I am. What will your dog do? He'll keep trying to get on bed (especially if it's an older dog). Now think if the rule was always:No dog of furniture! Wouldn't that be easier to understand and to follow that rule?
Consistency is the key to dog training!

Dogs swimming.
Some people think that swimming is a skill that all dogs naturally have. But swimming isn't necessarily an ability for dogs. While many of them are perfect swimmers, others are more likely to sink than stay above water.
Interestingly Poodle's haircut was originally meant to improve the dog's swimming abilities as a retriever, with the pom-poms left in place to warm their joints.

@allfordogs.pl
About 2 weeks ago we received two collars from @allfordogs.pl - LED collar (I'll post a review sometime soon) and classic collar with vivid orange addition part made from ortalion and sponge.
@allfordogs.pl's collar is well sewn and strong. It has 3 ways of putting on that makes it safer to use. First there is velcro from orange ortalion, then buckle and at the end two metal rings that allows you to attach a leash.
It is reflective and wide enough that I can actually see it in Cheddar's fur. I really like the @allfordogs.pl company logo that is attached to it, it's made of rubber and not just a tag like other companies make.
We tested it on many occasions, such as forest walks, lake fun, sand rolling, next to my daughter's stroller walking, car rides and even roller blading! It does seem to be durable and washable too.
We recommend,
Ewa&Cheddar! 💚

Dog's intelligence.
An experiment by University of Viennaresearchers was designed to find out when dogs are most likely to disobey. Pups were told to lie down and a bowl of their favorite food was placed about five feet in front of them. Not surprisingly, they were most likely to go for the food when their owners left the room or turned their backs. But when the owners were facing them, they could tell whether they were watching TV or reading a book — or paying attention to them!
Alexandre Pongracz Rossi, of the University of São Paulo, in Brazil, has trained her dog Sofia to use a computer keyboard with symbols for “walk,” “food,” “water,” “toy,” “play,” and “crate.” When Sofia presses a key, the computer “says” the word. She has learned to press the right key for what she wants. Interestingly, she never uses the keyboard when she’s alone.
Dogs are the most successful mammals on our planet, besides humans. They have spreaded all over the world and their number is increasing every year.

Pet-owner bond.
My bond with Cheddar is amazingly strong, before his hip surgeries he was even willing to cause himself pain because he wanted to accomplish what I told him to do. Nobody forced him, other than our relationship that gave him incredible will to work with me.
Since we all know how powerful is a great bond with a dog (it makes you both happier and increases the effectiveness of training), there are several ways to tighten up the relationship between you and your dog.
1️⃣ Spend some quality time alone with your dog, pay attention to him, pet, play train.
2️⃣ Have a solid communication created by being consistend with training, give signals and establish rules easy to understand for your dog. Remember your dog pays more attention to what you do, rather than what you say.
3️⃣ Train your dog every single day, three little sessions 5 minutes each can change your lifes! Every moment is an opportunity for training - walking to the post office, watching tv, cleaning.
4️⃣ Use different rewards for your dog. Don't stick to treats only, start rewarding with petting or a quick tug of wat or fetch play. Those are very stimulus for your dog.
5️⃣ Understand your dog's body language! You will not create a strong relationship if you can't read what your dog is trying to tell you. Learn about calming signals, warning signals, how dog's communicate with each other. Know your dog's likes and dislikes!
6️⃣ Be patient and consistent with Positive Dog Training! It pays off 💚 try to put your anger aside and have fun together, you will notice your dog is more likely to work with you!
7️⃣ Don't have your expectations too high! That's just going to upset you and frustrate your dog. Don't expect your dog to do a complicated task without breaking it into smaller steps. Your dog will gain confidence in himself and you will become proude of his success!
In addition he will trust you and think of you as a good, positive and reliable leader in his life. The bond you will create is stronger than anything that may come around.

Dog's ID!
Did you know that every dog's nose is different? It works exactly the same as finger prints for people. Possibly the future identification of our furry pets will contain a nose print. This organ is very interesting, because not only it is individual for each dog, but also it has two functions - smell and respiration. Canine's nose has the ability to separate air, one portion goes directly to the smell recognizing area, while the other is dedicated to breathing.
Dog’s also have the ability to take in and breathe out air at the same time.
Dog’s have a special scent-detecting organ that humans don’t have and it helps canines detect pheromones, chemicals released by animals that affect other members of the same species. This organ plays an important role in reproduction and other aspects of canine physiology and behavior.
Dogs smell in 3-D. Dogs can smell separately with each nostril. Just as our eyes compile two slightly different views of the world, and our brain combines them to form a 3-D picture, a dog’s brain uses the different odor profiles from each nostril to determine exactly where smelly objects are in the environment.
Dogs can smell up to 100,000 times better than a human .

@wildcraft.shop
Few days ago we recived a beautiful leash from @wildcraft.shop. I was very excited to get it because of the additional handle which is their original project. The leash is very long (with 3 length possibilities), solid, well-sewn - seams are straight (I sew myself a little and I pay attention to it). The only minus is at the thickest point of stitching on additional handle, two-three seams were ripped, that's how it came, but it won't break as it has two seams next to each other. I'm just mentioning it, as I am perfectionist when it comes to sewing.
Usually the adjustable leads are only made of fabric tape that doesn't feel nice in your hands and if you have an excessive puller... Well good luck to your hands! Cheddar is a gentle walker now, but after his hip surgeries when he wasn't able to loose the huge amount of energy he store, I had a painful accident with a leash that has tied around my thumb in right hand. He bursted out of the door and had deeply cut my skin open. @wildcraft.shop's leash has an additional handle that is very soft and pleasant, very comfy. @wildcraft.shop bravo for the handle project!
In addition, it is a beautiful accessory with an interesting rainbow paws pattern and vivid colors that brings on people's attention. I love it!❤️💛💚💙💜💗

Yay! It's Puppy Day! 💚
Throwback to an adorable little Cheddar and his very first adventure to the sea side! Funny fact is that he didn't plan on swimming. He just ran after a stick that my friend threw for her own dog. Little Cheddar was all fine, until he realized his feet aren't touching the ground anymore. This is the reason panic is written all over his face.
There are 70,000 puppies and kittens born in the U.S. every day, according to the Humane Society Animal League for Life.
Puppies are born without teeth, their eyes are shut, ear canals are closed and they can't smell until about 3 weeks old. Fully dependant on their mother, puppies get about 15-20 hours sleep per day according to American Kennel Club. When they're not sleeping... They eat!
Happy puppy day everybody 🐾

Fully dependant on their mother, puppies get about 15-20 hours sleep per day according to American Kennel Club. When they're not sleeping... They eat! Happy puppy day everybody 🐾 Photo credit: @pawsitive_tofis #agent_Cheddar  • • • • • • #ig_grdog  #pupliker1  #pupfawn4  #whpblackandwhite  #gotbark5292  #luckypets1  #FURBOHAPPYPUP  #puppyday  #nationalpuppyday2018  #puppylove 🐶 #lovepuppy  #goldenretrievertoday  #goldenretrieverpuppies  #goldenretrieverlovers  #ilovegoldens  #littledoglife  #swimmingpuppy  #swimmingdog  #firsttimeswimming  #adventurealways  #timeisprecious  #lovethisdog  #doglife 🐾 #lifewithgolden  #lifewithdog
The whole truth about dog behaviors.
Continuing yesterday's post on well-trained, yet not well-behaved dog, I would like to talk about what actually makes them well-behaved.
Behavior itself is based on many things, but the most important are emotions.
Few weeks ago I found a very interesting graphic illustrating vividly what behavior consist of. Imagine an iceberg. Your dog's behavior is the top of the iceberg. In nature a part of the iceberg that we really see sticking out the water surface is relatively small to its "root" under water. It is the part that creates and lets the ice top to stay above the water. It is also worth mentioning that although it is often invisible, it is very hard and strong. Wasn't that the part that managed to sink the unsinkable Titanic in 1912?
So what is truly building your dog's behavior? Above all, emotions that are made up of other factors, such as:
quality of the relationship with the owner, the ability to fulfill the needs, the proportion in mental and physical activity, social experience, genetics, self-control, motivation, socialization, previous experience. This is the strong root of your dog's behavior!
If your dog does not have all of it's physical and mental needs fulfilled or maybe your bond is quite poor or you may have missed the impulse control training... He is not able to behave well. Remember, if the highly energetic dog does not receive the proper amount of movement, he will find a different way to let the access of energy out of him, whether chewing on your new shoes or digging holes in your beautiful yard.
Some things we can not control much, such as genetics or proper socialization and previous experience (e.g. with rescue dogs), so concentrate on those you can work on!
Don't expect your dog to be well-behaved if you fail.

Well-trained but not well-behaved.
Most pet owners believe that a dog learns once and for all. Very common, repeated myth. Dogs are in fact very intelligent creatures, and they memorize what kind of behavior you want him to show when you say 'sit'. A lot of people believe that to have a well-behaved dog you have to attend a dog obedience class. Let me tell you the truth. If your dog finishes dog school, but you do not practice with him at home or at walks you only have a well-trained dog.
Well-trained dog doesn't mean well-behaved. In fact all the commands that your dog associated during training may go away if not practices. In other words he will start forgetting them. Therefore what you both learn at dog school must be used outside of it also. Practice commands on the walk, in the yard, in the city centre, at home... If you still believe dog school is enough itself you may end up with a puller, trash eater, reactive and running away off the leash dog.
P.S. Please make sure the dog school you attend uses only positive reinforcement training.
||
Thank you all for prayers and good words, so many of you reached out to me with love and care. I appreciate it tons! 💚 We are all slowly getting better, recovering from either stomach flu or food poisoning. Thank you!

What could be better than nature?
Natural treats from @psiegryzki are the best way to make life pleasing for our pets. Recently I ordered a package full of goodies from @psiegryzki, Aga (the owner) was so generous and she added some to Cheddar's order and we are both overjoyed, thank you! 😍
Finally, I was able to test all three flavors offered by @psiegryzki, which are (from the top of Cheddar's head) liver cookies, dried turkey fillet and dried turkey liver. Healthy stuff!
First - cookies come in many sizes and are ideal for training. During the training, it's convenient for me to reach for a bag of liver cookies and reward Cheddar. The ingredients are also amazing (turkey liver 80% and 20% bio tapioca). We had the opportunity to try the dried turkey out earlier, it was perfect, but the dried liver is a super snack! It smells divine for Cheddar! 💚
I am not going to lie, that during basic training we use cookies, but they were created for this! However when we learn new commands or I want to reward the dog more special, I reach for the 'heavier caliber'. Cheddar is best enjoying the dried turkey and liver, so he also knows that if I reward him with this, he did something special.
We recommend @psiegryzki,
Ewa & Cheddar 🐾

Orthopedic issues.
If you ever notice that your dog has a problem getting up, limping or obviously refusing to do some commands or doing it very laboriously, check if everything is okay with your dog's movement apparatus.
Dog disobedience very often can be a result of pain and discomfort. In Cheddar's situation, the problem was with various commands; get up, jump, crawl, sit pretty, and even a basic command sit. His reluctance to follow orders was not due to his stubbornness or stupidity, but to the fight for his well-being.
I will never forget those moments when I unconsciously told him to create pain on himself. Sir Cheddar is a good dog, as you know, we train with positive methods, so it's not like the dog was beaten for disobedience. To this day, I am amazed by the power of positive relations between us, in spite of the great pain he felt.
My dog's hip joints were terrible, the femoral head was moved practically entirely out of the joints, resulting in dislocations. The dislocations caused tremendous pain. (See photos in my story that shows you how it looks).
Cheddar is taught that he can not start eating until I tell the 'enjoy your meal' command. Awaiting for his meal, I taught him to sit down and wait patiently. Imagine that before the operations, after hearing the command sit, he was very slowly with lowering his butt and eventually he sat down with the characteristic click sound. At that moment the bones were jumping out of the joint. A huge pain that shows how much strength is in positive reinforcement. In this situation the dog knew that if he would calmly wait and sit (despite the pain), he would receive a great payment - bowl of food.
News from today's X-ray: Even though most of the bone transplant is gone, Cheddar's femoral heads are getting closer to the center of joints! No more dislocations 💛
We also have bad news, there are some visible degenerations on right side bone, which could be a problem in the future. Let's hope with good supplements it never will! 🙂

Calming signals - blinking.
Dogs, in order to avoid conflicts, had developed many interesting behaviors that consists of both mimics and body movement. In canine world we call them calming signals and currently are able to name over 30.
One of the calming signals is avoiding your sight and/or blinking. You may notice your dog showing this behavior when in a stressful situation, such as two dogs meeting or you getting angry at him when pulling on the lead. He's trying to say: 'Hey buddy, I'm not gonna hurt you, unless you come too close'. For the next few days try to concentrate on noticing this behavior to learn more about your dog, his fears and dislikes.
On this particular photo I just happened to catch that glance of Cheddar blink naturally, which worked out well for this caption.

Perfect walk.
Now that you've mastered the first step of a nice walk (see the previous post) it's time to move forward - well, don't expect to go on a long hike, but prepare yourself for a long 'few feet' walk. Be patient.
Before you start: remember, that training is the most efficient if your dog was exercised before. He will loose his excess energy and will be more trainable. Let's just say he will give up on pulling and will focus faster.
Pulling, lunging to people, reactivity to dogs, chasing squirrels, barking at everything and stopping - not willing to continue or finish the walk... Are the most common issues when walking the dog.
Having a perfect walk with your furry friend requires only a collar or harness and a leash (not retractable). Start your walk with the first step you already taught your dog and then attempt to walk. Whatever you do not like you should simply point it out for your dog, in a clear, readable way for him. If your dog is pulling just stop, do not move forward - give him a signal that if he pulls you will not continue walking (there are also other ways, I will have a separate post on how to stop pulling). Keep your dog focused on you, reward when he is paying attention. There is a simple way to check if you are still able to communicate with him, simply tell him to sit. If he is too distracted with the environment he will not do it. That means you are too close to the distraction, whether it's a squirrel or another dog. Create a distance, by taking few steps back until your dog is willingly sitting on a command. Celebrate every little success along the way.
Keep that in your mind: You won't get better if you don't go out there and practice! Consistency is the key ✅

Deaf outside.
Are you one of the dog owners that struggle with disobedience on the walk? The words below are directed especially to you.
Life with your pup in the house is like a heaven, while going outside is a nightmare. Lately I've been receiving from some of you questions about obedience on walks.
Let's start with a little vision: It's time to go on a walk, you put your shoes on, buckle the leash onto your dog's collar/harness. While you do all this your dog gets super excited but still is focused on you, then you open the door and he rushes out like crazy, totally forgetting about you... Let's stop over here.
Do not expect from your dog behaving well if you let him out to a distractive environment this way. For your dog that door is the barrier to a more interesting world. Your job is to open the door... Then you're just a log stuck to the lead that he has to pull around.
You have to demand focus on you, that's the clue to a nice walk whether there is another dog coming your way, a squirrel on the tree or a bicyclist. The first step is walking out of the door. Do not go out if your dog is not focused, turn around and close the door. Try opening, but if your dog moves, close it. We want a calm, well-mannered dog on a walk, this exercise teaches him, that he will not go out unless he behaves. Practice again and again, until your dog will sit still while the main door is open. Then try walking out, if your dog will start running or pull you on the leash - stop and call him back, sit and try again. One step at a time. This is inside out training, where you change your dog's definition of a walk. Of course to reinforce good behavior you may reward your dog with treats.
To be continued...

Hand signals.
Teaching a dog commands is usually a very fast and simple process. It is extremely important for your dog to associate certain behavior with a cue.

How could you teach a deaf dog some commands? It is as simple as gesticulation. Furthermore not only deaf dogs can be trained for hand signals. Every dog should, because it's a fact that the dog responds better to gestures than to words. Nothing weird about that since their language is made of body language. Therefore it is easier for dogs to learn hand signals than sound cues. The specified movement of the hand (leg or body) is more readable to him than the spoken word. That's why dogs learn them faster than words.

#agent_Cheddar  . . . . . . @doggyholics #ig_grdog  # #pupliker1  #muttclover  #pupdingo1  #pupfluencer  #whplandscape  #gotbark5292  #luckypets1  #awdogs  #happiestpups  #postyourpooch  #pupofinstagram  #boopmynose  @boopmynose #dogs_of_world_  #insta_pups  #sniffandbarkness  #itsadogslife  #goldenlife  #goldenretrieverofig  #ilovedog  #goldenlovers  #goldendog  #wetnose  #dognose  #focus  #artdog  #photoshopexpress  #watermark
My name is 'No, no! Bad dog!', what is yours?
Dogs communicate with their own language consisting of many signals, both sounds and body language. Their intelligence is so advanced that they can learn over 200 words in human language. Unfortunately, very often we make mistakes in the use of commands and excessive use of words that the dog never had conditioned (never been taught the meaning).
The best example is learning to respond to their name. The dog can respond effectively and quickly to either answering correctly to the sound of his name or to associate it with something very unpleasant, such as punishment (scolding, pain).
How often do you use your dog's name in negative situations during the day (e.g. when he destroys objects, eats trash on a walk or pulls on a leash towards another dog)? Relatively what percentage of using the dog's name during the day are positive and nice for him?
If most of the associations your furry friend has with his name are negative, do not be surprised that he is reluctant to come when you call him, he often ignores you and runs away.
In the coming days, try to focus on making the dog associate his name with something pleasant (you can just sit at home on the couch and call him by thy name and give him a snack, repeat it every now and then).
Remember that your pet should receive clear and readable signals, then your life together will be easier and more enjoyable. Each command has its own meaning, do not overuse the name of the dog in situations where you can use another command, e.g. leave it, look at me, come to me - make an effort and teach them.
The nicer dog associates his name and your person, the bigger and stronger the bond is formed between you, and this is equivalent to greater and more effective obedience.

Water in dog's diet.
Keeping your dog's healthy has many aspects, one of it is a balanced diet, that also consists of daily access to fresh water. H2O is the main component of healthy, living cells of the body. Without water, your dog’s body will not be able to function properly. More specifically, every important body function requires water and without adequate supply, your dog can quickly become ill and dehydrated. Organs will eventually become damaged with sustained water deficiency. If the deficiency lasts long enough, organs (such as kidneys, liver, etc.) will begin to shut down. Death will follow shortly after.
Do not make that mistake that years ago had been done on my lovely rabbit by my flatmate. During my few weeks of absence she did not give her a drop of water, my rabbit died shortly after I returned to my renting place. I won't be able to describe my feelings that time and anger towards myself for leaving my bunny with somebody who's irresponsible (although she did had bunnies herself years ago, but that time she had a dog)... Dehydration is quite easy to notice. If your dog's mouth, gums, nose, and eyeballs seem to be dried out and if you grab a skin on your dog's shoulder and let it go it should quickly go back to it's place, if dehydrated it would do it slowly or even stop for few seconds.
Make sure your dog always has enough water, keep your dog's bowls filled at all times

I can not believe that today is one year from Cheddar's the first operation!
Exactly year ago at this time we were returning home with Cheese after his operation of the right hip, and almost two months later he was having another surgery for his second leg. The first moments post surgery were hard, but after a few hours Sir Cheddar wanted to get up and play, which surprised both us and our orthopedist. This dog is full of energy and willingness to live, which is why it was very difficult sometimes to not break the movement restrictions after the operations. For more than half a year, Cheddar did not play with another dog, he did not run off the leash, did not fetch or jump. It was a difficult time, like having a dog without the possibility of using all the privileges, the dog suffered the worst. Due to movement restrictions, he developed many behavioral problems, which I mentioned in the earlier post (you can findo it on Facebook page - link in Bio)
Today, Cheddar is not in pain, does not cry from it . Today, our Gold-dog uses all the benefits of nature; sea, beach, forest, hills, fields, dog parks. He runs, he retrieves, jumps, plays with dog friends.
Free of pain, free of discomfort, free of worries. 32 kg Golden ball of happiness.
This is a special day for us and also a wonderful opportunity to thank those who helped him stand up.
I thank my husband for support, patience and carrying the dog after surgery.
The biggest and warmest thanks to our beloved orthopedic doctor.
Special thanks to the @fundacjawartagoldena for organizing the collection to finalize the second operation of our Golden boy. And dear Golden lovers, thank you for every penny.
Thank you! 💚
We won with dysplasia💪 My Cheese boy, you are a hero! 💗

Effective rewarding.
We all agree that rewarding a dog during learning process is necessary to increase both his excitement and willingness to work. The prize can be variable; food, word praise, cuddles, toys. The key is timing. Marking perfectly your dogs behavior is the clue to success. You may develop your own marker, it could be the clicker or a short word like 'yes', 'good dog'. It's very important to have a marker and teach your dog the meaning. Marker is always ahead rewarding (Behavior->Marker->Reward), never after. However a marker can become a reward itself. That's the point where we reach a common myth about positive training. No. There comes a point in training where you should lure out the rewarding. Frequency of rewarding shouldn't be still, because it's simply boring. It has been proven that unsystematic praise is the most effective, it keeps your dog interested and excited because he never knows which time you're gonna honor him with prize.
In our training I do not need treats anymore to get Cheddar to listen. However I usually carry some with me, because there may be a behavior I would like to reinforce or simply practice a new trick. The bottom line is: If I don't have anything he's still listening.

Impulse control.
What would your dog do if he saw a deer?
How good is his impulse control?
The impulse control is simply an ability to control yourself, to have a self-control. Dogs tend to be impulsive, well why not if there is a squirrel jumping on the trees or a cat running away. In dogs mind things that move are supposed to be chased.
Owning a well-mannered dog is basically down to impulse control. He has to learn how to suppress his own urges to behave properly in particular situation.
After hip surgeries Cheddar was not allowed to play with other dogs for more than half a year, which made his excitement boost whenever he spotted one. Today, after about 4 months I am a very proud owner of a self-controlling, well-mannered dog that's able to cope with distractions. We are still practicing in different environments, but I had a very interesting walk to the forest today. First we had a young, muzzled German Shepherd on a lead walking straight towards us with it's owner. Cheddar did spotted it and sit down, as usually, watching that dog. When I called him it took him a little to think, decide whether or not he should come to me. I literally saw him recalculating what's more beneficial. He chose to be with me. Very proud!
Later on the same walk we saw 4 deer (check our story). He did amazing this time also. He noticed them first, sat down and he did start the run, but the second I reacted he stopped, sat down, watched them for few seconds and ran back to me. I did not put the leash back on, he was listening carefully as we were getting closer to the deer. Didn't feel a need to chase the pray, even when the deer started running away.
Bravo Cheddar!👏 Perfect recall!
I just wish I had a camera 📸 with me to take photos, the one I won in giveaway from @khaleesi_thedobe 💗

❔Why dogs dig holes❓
Dog's ancestors, wild dogs and even wolves and foxes dig dens to raise their babies in. Dogs inherited that behavior, they often dig and circle to make a comfortable sleeping spot.
Many times if a dog is hot or cold he may dig holes to find a warmer or cooler place to stay. He would do it either in shade or in sun.
Some breeds, like terriers, are more likely to dig than others.
Furthermore dogs dig to bury food, chew bones, toys and prey. This behavior was also inherited from their wild ancestors, that would hide their food under ground for two reasons; saving it for later and it allowed them to leave their food unattended.
Our domesticated pets still feel the urge to dig.
Sometimes digging can turn out to be a behavioral problem, such as separation anxiety. If you want your dog to stop digging in your yard, you'll have to teach him not to do it.

Dog clone.
Medicine and technology has developed so much that we are able to clon our pets for over 15 years now. A cloned dog is simply a genetic twin of your dog, born at a later date. The cloned twin will share many of the attributes of your current dog, often including intelligence, temperament and appearance. The genetic identity of cloned dogs is identical to the original dogs.
To clon a dog basically a small tissue sample from your dog will need to be collected. Then a company that has been specialized in cloning will culture the tissue and freeze it for when you're ready to clon.
Cloned dogs live full, healthy and happy lives and are no more susceptible to health problems than any other dogs.
Dogs provide a unique form of companionship, loyalty and love. It is difficult for many dog owners to imagine life without their dog. Indeed, dog cloning gives an opportunity for them to extend their relationships with their pets.
Costs: around $25.000 for a cat and $50.000 for a dog.
Would you ever consider cloning your beloved dog?

InsideOut training.
Positive reinforcement training is for intelligent dogs. Dogs are intelligent, so yes your pup is trainable too! When training your dog you do not need any tools. How come? This is the beauty of Inside Out! All you need is love, some treats and toys. R+ is gonna change you and your dog inside out. When practicing with your pet you are working inside, creating a special bond, letting your dog think, decide whether or not he wants to be next to you. The ability to make choices by the dog is making him use his brain, he is thinking and the learning process is faster than thoughtless repetition or forced behavior.
You are changing your dog inside out though this. He wants to be with you and work. I see the difference between Cheddar's obedience when I am frustrated or having a bad attitude. He avoids my eyesight, shows the calming signals (lip licking, turning away, whale eyes, turning head...). He is less likely to cooperate with me. R+ is the only dog training method that is far more effective (it has been proven scientifically) and wants the best for your dog.
You do not need e-collar, choke chains or prong collars to force your dog to listen, with R+ training your dog WANTS to listen by himself. Train your dog with love and change him inside out.
