Rode out of Belize today with optimistic plans to ride 10+ hours to Semuc Champey in Guatemala, but that was definitely a pipe dream. I got a late start as is typical for me so far, and spent about 2 hours getting through the border crossing at Melchor de Mencos, so when I stopped on the island of Flores for a late lunch and debated my timing I decided it was smart to hang around here for tonight and see the ruins at Tikal in the morning before I ride deep into Guatemala. This is a cool little town and it seems there’s some big festival tonight for the first days of the Christmas tree lighting. It sure gets hard to catch up on solid sleep when there’s a celebration everywhere I go haha.
