So I stayed last night in Bacalar to see and swim in the majestic turquoise lagoon but the weather decided not to cooperate with me. Today I rolled out and crossed the border into Belize, marking 47 days in beautiful Mexico, much more than I anticipated but time well spent! The border crossing to Belize was surprisingly smooth and quick, though it was a bit tough to convince the agent to cancel my temporary vehicle import permit for Mexico since my VIN number is partially obscured by the rally nav tower bracket. Then I followed Google Maps suggestion which was surprisingly well tailored for an adventure bike. It took me down 60 kilometers of muddy, rocky, potholed Coastal Rd which I was happy to rip up after all the pavement I rode to get here. I pulled into Dangriga, Belize for the night and was stoked to hear about the Garifuna festivities going on this weekend, so I may stay an extra day here to experience that as well. I just finished up a tasty Belizean fried chicken dinner with some panades, banana bread cake, and watermelon juice to wash it down, and now it’s time to hit the hostel and get a bit cleaned up.
