Journey to Handstand
Homework Day 7
Since I didn’t go to the studio today, your homework is 3 ways to use your living room couch for better handstands. *you’ll be going upside down so warm up your wrist first!* 1. Elevated shoulder ROM exercises (4 sets of 5 on each arm)
On your knees with you hands handstand distance apart on the couch sink through your shoulders until you find your comfortable maximum flexibility. From here lift each arm as high as possible in sets of 5, keeping the torso at the same distance from the ground.
2. Elevated weighted hamstring stretches (2 sets of 20)
With butt perched on the edge of the couch, feet flexed, and a weight held at the chest, lean forward with your back straight until you feel a hamstring stretch. Use your hamstrings to pulse your body away from the floor.
3. Controlled inversions (2 sets of ten in each side)
Be careful with this one. With hands on the ground 1-2 feet from the edge of the couch walk your feet onto the couch cushions, leaning weight into the hands. If this feels manageable lift a leg and slowly lead it back. Be sure to maintain open shoulders, straight arms, and head between the arms during the whole handstand. The goal is to get as much weight out of the foot and into the hands as possible, but never going so far as to take all of the weight out of the foot.
The Journey to Handstand homework series was designed to supplement the @shaktiyogaathens workshop, however the drills will benefit anyone working towards stronger inversions!
Happy International Handstand Day!
I had the best time today snapping acro pictures for the Cincinnati scavenger hunt. Even though I didn't know anyone on my team, we managed to work together to snag third place! Today was a great reminder of the trust and communication skills that the practice of acroyoga cultivates. Everyone on the team did an amazing job of being aware of each other's comfort level with skills and encouraged everyone to participate. Thankful as always to be surrounded by wonderful humans. 🤩 See you soon Cincy!
We're celebrating thehandstanduo's first International Handstand Day today! 🦊 has entrusted me (🦆) to post on behalf of us today, since the Atlantic currently separates us, and 🦊 has limited Internet access (I may be a few hours late, but without Internet there's not a lot he can do about it 🤔). This handstand journey so far has been incredibly special to us. It's been a project to come together on when we needed an escape from our degrees, and a place to share our passion for handstands and gymnastics. Having said that, it represents so much more than handstands. My handstand pal is so much more than just a handstand pal. We've journied through a lot together, and while we are not just people who handstand a lot (though this account may suggest otherwise), handstands are the perfect way to represent our unitedness. Happy International Handstand Day, everyone! I'll leave you with a few words from the other half of thehandstanduo 😉 🦊: On a more personal level, this marks the first time we are posting with degrees secured in our pockets. For me, I want to say thanks to life for giving me an opportunity to be happy and to have worked hard. I can’t wait to continue posting here with my pal because I know we want to continue spreading positive messages in the future ♥
Catch you on the flip side, JaLi 🦊 🦆
PS - I know that 🦊 is going to kill me for having chosen a picture where his form isn't perfect (we haven't even hit the height of the handstand yet), but there is a high level of Handstanduo spirit that cries out to me in this. I had to use it

A couple of weeks ago I read @dk_movement’s take on using a metronome as an objective rhythmic measure. He explains it teaches timing and confidence, and exposes sticking points and hesitation. On June 10 I started using a metronome for my entry practice, it’s set for 1 second per click. . Here’s a snippet of my morning handstand practice, cartwheel entry from the right, 6 times in a row. Enter in 3 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, and exit for 3 seconds. . It took a couple of days to get used to the metronome. At first it lowered my success rate and the clicking sound was annoying, but now it has proven to increase my rate of success.
Happy international handstand day 😉
This picture is for the girls who after finding out I was pregnant proceeded to roll their eyes and judge me after my partner and I spent 2 hours teaching them high level acrobatics and for the random guy who told me that if I continued to do acro throughout my pregnancy my baby was going to be born with a “fidgeting disorder” or worse. 🙄
But it is also for me being 6 months pregnant with a super happy healthy baby, my supportive husband, and all of the people who cheer me on in what I continue to do (including my midwife!) ❤️ brushing off the negativity and mom shame ✌🏼#acromom
Que lindo recuerdo 😍

Siempre lamentare no tiener vídeo oficial de ese baile 😔😔
Estaba pensando modificar esa rutina. Ponerle cosas más entretenidas y volver a darle. Que opinan? .
. [Después me quejo, claro xD]
