This is a really good bible story to meme. I know I made my own meme about it before, so it doesn’t make much sense to post this but it made me laugh, so I thought I should share it here anyways. #abrahamandisaac #abrahamisaacandjacob #biblememes #bible #catholicism #torahmemes #god #godisgood #funnymemes #funnymemesdaily

Unit 2, Session 2: (Oct. 21, 2018)
Abraham and Isaac

Abraham showed his love for God by being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac. God provided a ram instead. This is how God showed His love for us: He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross so that we could have eternal life through Him.

Memory verse:
Nursery & Toddlers; Galatians 3:29b
K-6th: Galatians 3:29

"By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, EVEN THOUGH GOD HAD SAID TO HIM, 'It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.' Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death." - Hebrews 11:17-19 ▪▪▪
I think that when God asks us to surrender what seems to be the most valuable thing in the whole world, it's because there is actually something so much greater for us. I've felt this pain, though not nearly as dramatically as Abraham giving his son. But I have felt God say, "lay it down" when I least expected and couldn't imagine doing so. This passage brings me so much hope and joy, because it reminds me of 1) God's amazing power, even to raise the dead; and 2) He is always better. ▪▪▪
If you're in a season of surrender too, take heart. He is always good. The testing of your faith is worth it (1 Peter 1:6-7). ❤

God, You Can Have Her...
"God, You can have her," I whispered barely audible, tears streaming down my face. This was it. I was surrendering to God what I had clutched so tightly onto for over a decade. But I had to do it. I couldn't try to hold on any longer to what God wanted me to let go.

We had been talking about Abraham and Isaac that night, almost two years ago now. The college ministry I was a part of held their weekly meeting on Sunday nights, and the topic of discussion was Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac to God. At some point in the evening, our speaker of the night asked us "What is your Isaac?". In other words, what is that one thing you love more than anything else that God is calling you to surrender to Him? A lump welled in my throat. I knew immediately what God was calling me to surrender and I didn't like it. Not one bit.

Excluding God, I love my sister more than anything. For as long as I could remember I felt responsible for her. Part of that comes with being a big sister I guess. But it was more than just a typical big sister watching out for her younger sister. Because of the way we grew up and because of broken family relationships, I had to be a parent to my sister because she didn't like nor trust either of my parents. And my parents added to that pressure. Even random people added to that sense of responsibility because they didn't know what to do to try to help her. They assumed I did. I definitely didn't. Still, I felt overwhelmingly responsible for her life, trying to keep her alive, and trying to prevent bad things from happening to her. When bad things did happen to her, I blamed myself for not protecting her. I felt guilty all the time. I hated myself for the things I allowed to happen to her. I was too busy trying to be her "savior" that I didn't realize what trying to be her "savior" was doing to me.
I could no longer try to be her savior. I needed to let God have her. I needed to let Him be her Savior. That didn't mean I loved my sister any less. If anything, I think it helps me love her more, to love her better....

Start of a transcription worked upside down from my drawing class. Original is "Sacrifice of Isaac", Rembrandt 1635. I like how it's going so far.
I always enjoy working on biblical scenes. But someone asked me who the figures are, and because i'm the Worst™ at remembering names, i said it was Isaac and Jacob even though i've heard this account my entire life.
So way to go me only two weeks into the semester. Lol

Where there’s faith there’s pain but where there is pain there is purpose // In Genesis 22, God tests Abraham’s faith. God says, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Ah, the pain of faith.. •

God doesn’t test us to prove to Him that our faith is real, God tests us to prove to ourselves that our faith is real. Abraham obeys with no questions asked and heads to the hill where he would sacrifice his promised son. Abraham had faith that either God would provide a substitute or that God would resurrect his son from death to life. •

If you’re not willing to hurt for God then you’re not willing to be healed by God. Without pain, faith will never grow but no matter how bad it hurts, never forget that if God came thru then, He’ll come thru now // If you haven’t heard the latest message from KING OF THE HILL, you don’t want to miss it! “Abraham and Isaac” by Marc Chagall
In the paintings of Marc Chagall he used colour to express thoughts and to highlight a certain feeling. The position and colour of Isaac on the bottom show the bright future that mankind has if they are submissive and have faith in God. Abraham is pictured in red symbolising the blood of the sacrifice he believes he’s going to make. Above the overpowering colour blue shows the angel God sent holding back as it were the hand of Abraham. Blue symbolizes peace and serenity and seems to over power or lessen the intensity of the red and yellow. On the middle left there we see the ram stuck in the tree, that God sent for Abraham to sacrifice to him instead of his son Isaac. On the top right hand side we can see how Chagall made application to the events of Abraham to the events that occurred in jesus time. He concluded that jesus was in effect that sacred lamb or beloved son that was to be offered as a holy sacrifice. This was only in part what I learned from one painting. Chagall has a whole Musée dedicated to his many paintings of bible stories. His use of color and detail make these paintings a real master piece. I can stare at them forever. I wish I was this talented! 😍#marcchagall#chagall#paintings#painters#france#museedemarcchagall#biblepaintings#bible#abraham#abrahamandisaac

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• When you think of the person you hold most dear in your life, what name comes to mind? What if God told you to give that person up? Could you do it? When God instructed Abraham to offer his much-loved son, Isaac, as a sacrifice, it was the ultimate test of loyalty and faithfulness. It was a test no parent would want to face. Yet, Abraham was willing to obey. This event is found in Genesis 22, and what I find fascinating is in verse 5... “‘Stay here with the donkey,’ Abraham told the servants. ‘The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.’” Notice the use of “we.” Abraham was willing to obey God’s command to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering, but his faith in God was so tremendous, he told his servants, “WE will come right back.” (Emphasis mine.) When Isaac asked about the lamb a couple of verses later, Abraham replied, “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” (Genesis 22:8a). The series of events that follow find Isaac tied up and laying on a stack of wood, with Abraham standing over him with a knife, prepared to kill him. God intervened and Isaac was spared, with a nearby ram offered up instead. And “we,” did return to the servants. The relief and gratitude that Abraham must have felt would have been overwhelming. God tested him and Abraham passed with flying colors. God’s not going to ask us to sacrifice our loved ones on an altar, but He does have a similar expectation of us... He expects us to make Him first in our lives. He expects us to put obedience to Him above all other people and issues. When we consider the question, “Do you trust God with what you hold most dear?” the answer to that question should be a resounding yes! Because at the end of the day, all that we have is the result of His generous hand. It all belongs to Him. If we put apply a higher value to anything other than God Himself, we aren’t trusting. We aren’t obeying. And we aren’t being faithful. The first commandment is, “You must not have any other god but me.” (Exodus 20:3). PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS •••

May your life be flooded, this #EidAlAdha - your heart with love, your soul with spirituality, your family with joy, your body with good health, your coffers with prosperity, and your mind with wisdom. Sharing with you on #EidulAdha this 1900 #KermanLavar depicting #Abraham and the #sacrifice of #Isaac
This holiday dates back to Prophet Abraham, who had a dream that God commanded him to sacrifice his son, as an act of obedience to God.
Despite the tremendous #love for his son, Abraham was preparing to carry out God's command, when God revealed a #sheep to Abraham as a sacrifice instead of his son.
Today, Abraham's tale is commemorated on the Eid and serves us as a tool for our own soul wrestling, to transcend its words to confront our own existential sacrifices and our ability to face and overcome life's tests.
We wish you a #EidMubarak and we hope that your sacrifices are appreciated and your prayers are answered by the almighty, and to have a pleasant family gathering and feast.

“He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
Genesis 22:2
Today’s verse will focus heavily on self sacrifice. There will be a time when the lord will come down upon you and speak to you, you will feel confusion at his request and it may be too grand for you to complete. The lord may command you to lose something dear to you and make self sacrifice, whether it be physically, mentally or spiritually for a spot in paradise. Such a request was given to Abraham, but because he had faith in the lord he was left with no loss and instead a gain in faith. I encourage everyone to take the call when commanded by the lord himself and to sacrifice your free will for his desires. The lord knows best, and if you have faith in him you’ll be blessed with the greatest of rewards, and offered a spot in paradise.
With love,
Father Abner

I told you we were really getting into our Bible Stories this summer! 😂 Meet Abraham and Isaac - and additional sheep added to the scene so that everyone has a part. My mother's attic is full of props like this ( #pastorswife ), and we are using them to bring the Bible to life! However, I wonder what the neighbors think. "There are those weird homeschoolers - again!" 😂 Several runners and dog-walkers passed by as Abraham was telling Isaac to lay down on the altar. 👀 "Um, kids....hold up, we're not doing that part of the story today, okay?" 😂 P.S. Dinner tonight is Esau's stew! 🍴

WORSHIP.// How do you define worship? It can be so easy to think that worship is just singing at church on Sunday. Or listening to “worship music”. Yes that’s worship, but it goes far far deeper than that. The Bible tells us that our WHOLE LIVES are worship, not just PARTS of our lives (Romans 12:1). Worship is what we were created for, what we were created to do. It is an attitude, a position of the heart, a daily surrender, an offering, a lifestyle and a gateway to the presence of God. •
What I find interesting about the story of Abraham and Isaac is that when God tells Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, Abraham tells his servants to stay with the donkey, and that he and Isaac will go and “worship”. They didn’t get together with the band at the top of the mountain and sing the latest Hillsong songs. Abraham’s worship was his sacrifice of Isaac. See worship requires a sacrifice. Sometimes the sacrifice is our time, our money, our efforts, our attitudes, our desires, or simply our complete surrender to Jesus. It’s not always easy and it’s not always what we feel like doing in the moment…but God is ALWAYS deserving of our worship at every single moment of every day, and when we worship him and give him our whole lives he is able to do immeasurably more than you could ever think in your life. I'm reading/studying through Genesis. The story of Abraham and Isaac has really made me think and touched my heart. When God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham didn't argue. When Abraham bound Isaac as the sacrifice, the Bible doesn't say Isaac resisted. @pastorlocke says Abraham was in submission to his Heavenly Father and Isaac was in submission to his earthly father. God was testing Abraham, and Abraham thought if God wanted Isaac as a sacrifice then God would bring him back from the dead.
This story has been in my head and heart for days. What things in my life am I trying to control instead of giving them to God and trusting His will? No matter how hard it is, am I living His Word or just reading it? I want to be a doer and not just a hearer/reader!

I Chronicles 1 “Abraham fathered Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau and Israel/Jacob” (v34). Chronicles, a retelling of Israel’s history (like Kings, but from a different perspective) begins with a genealogy that establishes the nation of Israel’s descent from Adam (v1) through Noah and Shem and down to Abraham and his children. This account would have especially encouraged the Israelites who found themselves captive in Babylon (II Kings 24-25) and struggled to hold on to their identity as God’s covenant people in a foreign land.
God knows our hearts need assurance and comfort as we live as His redeemed people in the world: “the Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16). -Deborah Galyen #NCManna

LAND OF PROMISE
Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please, put your hand under my thigh, and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.” And the servant said to him, “Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from which you came?” But Abraham said to him, “Beware that you do not take my son back there. The LORD GOD OF HEAVEN, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your descendants I give THIS LAND,’ He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there.” So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter. - Genesis 24:1-9

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the LAND OF PROMISE as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with ISAAC and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is GOD. - Hebrews 11:8-10 .

EVERY GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT

Then they came to the place of which GOD had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the Angel of the LORD called to him from HEAVEN and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you FEAR GOD, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, THE-LORD-WILL-PROVIDE; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” - Genesis 22:9-14 .

My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to WISDOM, and apply your heart to UNDERSTANDING; yes, if you cry out for DISCERNMENT, and lift up your voice for UNDERSTANDING, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the FEAR OF THE LORD, and find the KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path. - Proverbs 2:1-9 .
