🇳🇱 Q: Welk boek heb je supersnel uitgelezen? ❤️
🇬🇧 Q: Which boek did you read incredibly fast? ❤️
Hello. Sorry this is coming so late I got swept up in studying for the final I have tomorrow or soon as I came back to my apartment.
thank you to everyone for being so understanding. After my exam tomorrow I will probably be on a little bit because my last exam of the semester is not till Friday so have a little bit a time.
I recently got into the show designated survivor oh my God I love it. I love the conspiracy theories so much they are probably like in my top five favorite things in the world. My favorite conspiracy theory is that Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain. And you don’t have to believe me mad but there’s nothing anyone can say really that would make me change my mind on that I have done some research into that conspiracy theory that it took for my wife for a good portion of time. If you were going to be a serious please check out the show if you have it it is on Netflix and it is amazing.

Question: do you like conspiracy theories? And if so what is your favorite one or what is one that you wholeheartedly believe?
❄️• "All my life,” she said, “I have been told ‘go’ and ‘come.’ I am told how I will live, and I am told how I must die. I must be a man’s servant and a mare for his pleasure, or I must hide myself behind walls and surrender my flesh to a cold, silent god. I would walk into the jaws of hell itself, if it were a path of my own choosing. I would rather die tomorrow in the forest than live a hundred years of the life appointed me." - Katherine Arden, The Bear and the Nightingale // hello hello! I really enjoyed this book? I was hesitant at first because I was a bit confused here and there, but once I understood what was going on I really love it. Also, the writing style was really atmospheric and detailed! I felt like I was being inserted right into the setting; it had me reaching for a blanket and hot chocolate every time I sat down to read. I have other points to mention but they're slipping my brain atm so I'll probably come back to edit this caption aha. The sequel for this book just came in the mail and I'm totally not jumping in anticipation to read it :,) •
Q: in any way, which book has surprised you?
I just dug out a few old photos that reminded me of book reviews I have been procrastinating on for months now🙈
To Kill a Kingdom is the first and only retelling of The Little Mermaid I've read and it gives the original tale an interesting twist. Princess Lira is no naive and innocent Ariel, mooning after a human prince. She is the most vicious of the sirens and with her hoard of the hearts of seventeen princes, she is something of a legend, both among sirens and humans. But when she kills one of her own, the Sea Queen turns Lira into that which they all despise, a human, and gives her until winter solstice to deliver to her the heart of Prince Elian or forever remain human.
As you've probably figured out this is an even darker tale than the original Little Mermaid (and definitely darker than the Disney version). Told from the alternating viewpoints of Lira and Prince Elian, each intent on killing the other, the story gives a look into both kingdoms, the one on land and the one below sea. I liked actually being able to read Elian's POV as opposed to the usually limited portrayal of the Prince's character in fairytales.
I do wish the characters (especially the secondary ones) had been more fleshed out. The writing and pacing could have done with a lot of improvement but then again it is a debut so there's hope the author improves with experience. The romance was very typical and you knew what to expect from the start but it wasn't as bad as the unconvincing and clichéd romances in some of the other YA retellings I've read.
Overall, though there was much room for improvement and I had to skim through a few parts when it dragged too much, the story itself was an interesting one.
My rating - ⭐⭐⭐
Thank you for the review copy @definitelybooks
.❓Have you read this one? Do you have any recommendations for retellings?

“Skye kissed her forehead. "You saved my life."
Katsa smiled. "You Lienid are very outward in your affection."
"I'm going to name my firstborn child after you."
Katsa laughed at that. "For the child's sake, wait for a girl. Or even better, wait until all your children are older and give my name to whichever is the most troublesome and obstinate."
Skye burst into laughter and hugged her, and Katsa returned his embrace. And realized that quite without her intending it, her guarded heart had made another friend.”•

Do you make a reading list? My sister bought me a beautiful (and practical) planner for Christmas and I started to make my 2019 reading list in the back. Some are rereads but most are new. For now. Rereads are more my mood reads. There are some trilogies with the final book coming out in 2019, so I need to make sure I don’t start book 1 and 2 too soon in the year because I don’t want to reread TOO many. Only favorites. •
Is anyone else excited for A Discovery of Witches to be coming on US TV in January? I can’t wait! I just need to figure out how to watch it. •
#grimdragon - live by the sword - Graceling is my favorite cover with a sword. •
#lilbookishcheer18 - green books •
#booknerdsdec18 - book with magic •
| Q O T D | Given that it’s almost the end of the year, I want to know: have you completed your 2018 reading challenge? ❆
I’m about one and a half books away from my goal, so I’m feeling pretty good. Plus I always crank out a few books over winter break. Now I just need to decide if I want to set a higher, lower, or the same goal for 2019! ❆
"A princess, a traitor, a hunter and a thief. Four teenagers with the fate of the world in their hands. Four nations destined for conflict.
In Brigant, Princess Catherine prepares for a loveless political marriage arranged by her brutal and ambitious father. In Calidor, downtrodden servant March seeks revenge on the prince who betrayed his people. In Pitoria, feckless Edyon steals cheap baubles for cheaper thrills as he drifts from town to town. And in the barren northern territories, thirteen-year-old Tash is running for her life as she plays bait for the gruff demon hunter Gravell.
As alliances shift and shatter, and old certainties are overturned, our four heroes find their past lives transformed and their futures inextricably linked by the unpredictable tides of magic and war. Who will rise and who will fall? And who will claim the ultimate prize?"
"The thoughts trail one another in my brain, running from the back up to the front and dripping down again under my chin: I'm no one; I'll never make it in my life; I'm about to get revealed as a fake, I've already been revealed as a fake but I don't know it yet; I know I'm a fake and pretend not to." IKOAFS
"My stupid fantasies about ending up homeless are just that--the fact is that my parents will take me in anytime, anywhere. But some people have to get lucky just to live. And I never knew I could make anybody lucky." IKOAFS
Maybe my expectations were too high but this book was just okay for me. Also not to be judgy but it mostly seemed like he just wanted a gf.
