2012 Ecos de Rulo Carménère from the Bisquertt Family Vineyards. Our first winery trip together. Beautiful people, beautiful country, and beautiful wine. If you don’t know Carménère, you should get to know it because it’s one of our favorites! Black fruit, smoke, and pepper. A bit of a TMI post, but I know I'm not the only person in the world with #IrritableBowelSyndrome , and if this makes even one person feel better about their own chronic disease, well then it did its job.
My body gave me a hard heavy sign that my nights of excessive drinking are over. I've had a couple of nights after too many cocktails or mixing various boozes that my digestive system got screwed up, but wine has never ever been an issue. It's been my one last go to drink if I wanted to have a fun buzzed night with friends or family.
Well last night, I drank a full bottle of wine and ate a personal pizza, something I have done at least a dozen times before with ZERO issues (Literally, how do you think I gained weight in grad school?). Well last night was hell. The amount of gastrointestinal cramping and pain was unbearable. I barely slept all night from the pain and the ,uh, hourly trips and the mini anxiety attacks from my gut being so screwy. And no, it's not from drunkenness or a hangover. Trust me. I've experienced the difference. I'd rather have had a hangover today....
It's gotten to the point that a couple hours of fun one night turns into a full fledged day of recovery the next. It's just not worth it anymore. I've been refined to this couch all day under my weighted blanket, drinking tummy soothing ginger and turmeric tea, going in and out of sleep, lower intestine still in residual pain, and trying to force down whatever food I can since I have zero appetite.
I at least enjoyed every minute of last night at the winery, even if the 24+ hours following sucked. But, I definitely need to start practicing self-restraint. No heavy consumption. No mixing. And watching what foods I eat alongside it. Like I always say, #ChronicIllnessSucks , but #IWillNotLetMyDiseaseWin and #IWillNotLetMyIllnessDefineMe . 🖕

Date night in calls for steak and red wine 🍷 it can be #whole30 if you decide on some @lacroixwater in your glass •I seared the steak in olive olive on high heat for 2 minutes each side and then placed it in the oven at 375 for 10 minutes leaving it medium rare. •The potatoes were tossed in herb infused oil, salt, red pepper flakes, and black pepper and roasted at 375 for 30 minutes •The broccoli was tossed in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and lemon juice then roasted at 375 for 20 minutes.

Louis Roederer remains today as one of the only still independent and family-run Champagne house. Every vintage originates exclusively from their own vines, which is rare indeed in the Champagne region while most other champagne houses bought their grapes.
