My @makersnorth partner Tracy from @yellowhouseca ☀️ and I were chatting earlier this week about how inspiring it feels to be surrounded by so many talented makers here in Sudbury. 🙉🙊We met each other just over three years ago as I was just about ready to give up on making and selling art. I felt so discouraged not having places show my work that focused solely on handmade items. So, we banned together to give it a go, find local makers and plan a handmade market that Sudbury hadn’t seen before. Our first year we had 35 makers, we worked so hard and we were excited, and scared! Literally till about ten minutes before this picture was snapped I was so afraid no one would come. This was just before the doors opened, we had just walked outside and saw the line up was down the street and around the corner. I cried. Not joking. I was so emotional. Then the doors opened and it a crazy blur of excitement, positivity, and fun. The second photo is from the end of the day, exhausted and happy. 🎄This year’s market has grown, it showcases over 75 Makers from all over Northern Ontario. I haven’t done much Christmas shopping yet because I want to do it then (next weekend) so I can support the makers and dreamers. #northernontario#makersnorth#communityovercompetition
My Floral Babies say ho-ho-ho 😉 have you ever seen Santa with such long eyelashes?😂
I mean, I've got some printable Christmas cards already listed AND I'm going to make them available as set of ready printed cards. If you want them printed ASAP for you, just comment below 😉
In between Saturday chores I did some sketching today and my goodness it felt good. I’ve been busy organizing the @makersnorth Handmade Holiday Market with @yellowhouseca and haven’t had much time for making any art, so doing something creative felt like it lifted a big weight off of me. This is the start of a little map of Big Lake. It’s a funny lake because well, it’s small. As a kid I can remember getting up at the crack of dawn to go fishing there with my Dad and catching a giant Pike which was enormously fun to reel in. I only went once or twice because I didn’t like getting up early. 🐠 I’ve wanted to try out doing the water depth on a lake and thought this would be a good lake to start with (since it’s small, not big 😂) Next to add the roads. #handdrawnmap#mapmaking#manitoulinisland
Meet Charlie; a gorgeous gal with a glistening complexion (though tbh she’s quite the snowflake if you know what I mean), who is now competing with Bishop for the role of house mascot 🐱⛄️🤦🏻♀️ #mydramaticlife
Santa Claus made an appearance at the shop today, just in time for the big parade tonight!
. . .
Stop in on your way to the parade for a FREE small coffee! We’ll be open late so if you miss us before, you can pop by after! . . .

Love this capture, and caption, by @rachel.pohl >>>
"Sometimes I buy into the idea that traveling the world would make my life better. That I need visit all of these exotic places to be truly happy and fulfilled and find magic. That I need to hit the road to explore new places to ultimately find lasting contentment.
I live in a beautiful place and have a loving husband but I also don’t go outside half as much as I’d like to. I work more than maybe I should + even need to. Honestly it brings me a lot of anxiety, always wanting more. More travel, more experiences. Even more stuff- I hate to admit it but I want things I don’t need. Because we’re taught to want more, and that more = happiness.
We’re taught to seek greener grass at any cost, and often don’t notice the perfectly nice grass we’re bulldozing over.
Someone always profits from our discontent, and it’s not us. It’s billion dollar industries that rely on us to want, endlessly.
We can be discontent anywhere on earth. With any level of fame or prestige or wealth. But we can also be happy right here. The grass is greener where you water it. We don’t need to travel to find the things travel is supposed to bring us. We don’t need to buy stuff that promises to bring happiness through consumption. It’s ok to want, to strive, to live our *best life.* But don’t let those desires get in the way of everything right here.
So I’m going to admire my wanderlust. Give a nod to my drive to always do more. Then quietly curl up with my paints and create my own magic, right here in my little town. I’m going to plan trips, but not let desires overpower the wonderful world I’ve been created right here.
Let’s water the grass beneath our own two feet. Let’s strive to explore, but also explore our own hearts. Because life it too short to always be thinking about the things we don’t really need. Don’t miss it on this moment by thinking about the next."

Head to her gallery for swag! Each piece has a story!
When you realize you’ve un-intentionally posted two cropped shots of hands in a row on your feed, you roll with it and post another 😂 I do love my detail shots though and is there really anything more telling then a person’s hands! I remember having a prof in university that loved to photograph them but he would always harp on us that they had to be doing something, engaged in some way so their purpose would come across instead of looking awkward; it was a bit of a riot then but I totally get it now. I digress!! I’ve got some goodies to share with you guys! A couple of exciting projects that are making my heart sing! Coming back to work, especially after initially making peace with the idea that I wouldn’t be this soon, had me a little nervous. Was my work still relevant? Would people still want to work with me? What if I didn’t book anything? Did I still love my job? Loads of what ifs that were (and some still are) kicking around my noggin’, pulling at my heart strings. Looking back on it now though, I’m really glad I took a proper break from working as it allowed me to remember why I got into business in the first place and provided some much needed clarity as to what direction and purpose I want my work work to have, and how I can make being self-employed work for me (instead of against me as it’s felt the last couple of years). I’m in the middle of writing down my non-negotiables list - things that will always come before work, pieces that are crucial to my emotional/mental/physical and spiritual well-being so that I can continue to show up with a whole heart, especially for my clients 🙏🏻 I’m excited to see what 2019 will have in store! But for now, coming back down to the present, head to my insta stories to read about one of the exciting things I’ve been getting ready for! | #amandaurbanskicreativephotography @kylahdobson you are radiant ✨✨✨

Some of the best roads run through @acadianps. I took a photo of this same scene 2 years ago on a terribly rainy day. Glad I was able to see the park without rain for a day. Still arguably my favorite National Park next to the smokies. •
