It's #WhereintheWorldwasWarnell Wednesday! #WarnellDawg Andrew Taylor (BSFR '09, MS '12) moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 2013 to work on his PhD in fisheries and aquatic ecology at Oklahoma State University. "My dissertation addressed native black bass conservation issues—including range loss and conservation genetics—in Georgia and across the southeastern U.S. As a post doc, I'll continue to work on conservation of native fishes and control of aquatic invasive species." Taylor said his favorite experiences in Oklahoma has been the collaboration between scientists, biologists and technicians. "I have gained priceless new perspectives from them that I will carry throughout my career." We love showing off what our students and alums are doing! We saw so many great things you all posted during #WarnellDawgDays, so if you would like to be featured, please email photos and a description to warnelldawg@uga.edu!

One more #WarnellDawgDays submission that just missed our photo contest! Alicia Wilson sent these in from the field where she was collecting data on sea turtle nest success on the barrier islands of Georgia. "Proud to be a DAWG!"
We loved all these photos! #WarnellDawgs are the best!

You guys are the best! Not only did we reach our goal of 111 gifts for 111 years, we saw some fantastic photos in our contest. A couple got sent in too late for the official #WarnellDawgDays raffle, but that doesn't mean we can't share them! Heather Gaya sent these in, and says, "I'm trying to improve survey designs for gopher tortoises across the southeast, but I like to say that really I'm just looking for baby herps. In addition to my own species I've found eastern box turtle hatchlings and tons of baby frogs! I even found a young garter snake in New Mexico (while attending) The Wildlife Society conference."

And congratulations to our last raffle winner for #WarnellDawgDays, Tyler Gagat! We had so many amazing photos posted, but we only had so many donated items to raffle off. If you didn't win this year, we'll be doing this again next year! But you don't have to wait that long! We love showing off what you guys are doing in our Where in the World was Warnell features. Just shoot us an email at warnelldawg@uga.edu if you're interested in that!

I will never be able to repay the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at UGA for all it made possible and for the family it provided. My education and family there led me to a master’s program in Texas, working experiences in every state across the southern U.S. border, and now to a biologist/WMA manager position in north Alabama where I primarily manage these areas for migratory birds. This summer I was even fortunate enough to have a current warnellian as a summer intern! Keep being awesome Warnell and happy birthday! GO DAWGS! @ugawarnell #warnelldawgdays #thiscouldbeyouroffice #waterfowl #Dooleythehounddawg

We have four more raffle winners to announce today! We are overwhelmed with how much love you #WarnellDawgs showed in our challenge to reach 111 gifts for 111 years. We are not quite there, but your contributions have been outstanding--we've already surpassed last year's birthday campaign! That challenge is still open if you thought it was too late, btw. #WarnellDawgDays has been amazing, and that's all because of all of you sharing your amazing memories with us!
With that gushy stuff said, Aaron Souto is our next photo contest winner! I mean, who doesn't love a trip to a swamp? :P #UGA

We have our final raffle winners, but we're mean so we're not going to tell you who they all are just yet. #WarnellDawgDays continues tomorrow (and purty please go visit our gift challenge page. No gift is too small!) so we're going to announce the last four winners on Thankful Thursday! (Yup! Four more lucky winners!) But David Subers was so excited about being a #WarnellDawg he sent in more photos beyond the ones we posted yesterday. We pulled his name in our last drawing at 4 p.m., and we are loving that he's wearing his Warnell jacket in this one. Thank you to everyone who shared your Warnell memories with us!

Where in the world is Warnell?
I may have to live in Gainesville, FL but I get to travel all over the southeast! From our Southern office in Hot Springs, Arkansas to our nursery in Aiken, South Carolina and all over the state of Florida. But today I got to come home and interview the next class of Timber Dawgs. @ugawarnell #Warnell #weyerhaeuser #Forestry #warnelldawgdays @realwomenintimber

This is Luna the week I adopted her - only a few weeks after I graduated from the UGA's Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources. One of the first things I did was take her and have her sit on the steps I had happily walked up every day so that she could be a "true dawg". My time at Warnell is something I think about and treasure every single day. If I could do it all again, I wouldn't think twice. A lot has changed in these (almost) 2 years since my time at Warnell, but I am proud today, and everyday, to be a #warnelldawg no matter where life or my career takes me. I'm so honored to be able to support a school, a staff, and a program that has always supported me. Warnell, you will forever be such an important part of me -- stay magical. From your fave alum in Texas, Happy 111th Birthday ❤️🌲🐾 #warnelldawg #warnelldawgdays #donate #support #loveyourroots #UGAalumni #everypennycounts #dawgsgiveback #UGA

But today is another part of our celebration. We hope you love us as much as we love you. To celebrate what it means to be part of the Warnell family, we are throwing down a challenge: a one-day only race to get 111 gifts for the 111 years Warnell has been educating the natural resources leaders of the future. No gift is too small -- every single one helps make an impact on students. We hope you'll help us reach our goal. #DawgsGiveBack #UGA

From a remote island in Alaska (where the Warnell coozies keep your hand from freezing, instead of the beer from getting warm) to a remote island right here near home, and some red rock in between, my #warnelldawgdays prepared me with the mindset that no new challenge is too big. Extremely proud and thankful to be able to take a piece of that school with me wherever my career may lead

Enjoying my #WarnellDawgDays by learning how to do a field necropsy. These predators were taken from a quail plantation in order to boost quail populations. These specimens were brought in to be studied for potential disease markers and parasites, where we extracted the spleen and took body fluid samples to send to a disease lab. 🔬 While the work may not always be glamorous, it certainly is important! 🌲#warnell #uga #warnelldawgdays #warnellschoolofforestryandnaturalresources

I'm class of '12 and '16, and I recently made a move to Knoxville, TN, where I work as manager of Navitat Knoxville Canopy Adventures. I never thought I'd get paid to play in trees all day, but here we are, and I love it! (Expect everyone here wears orange even if they don't work with me, and it's weird) #warnelldawgdays

This poor hat has been to a lot of places with me, and has been an amazing reminder of the incredible education I received at Warnell. This place is where I learned that I could use my passion for wildlife and the outdoors to make a difference. I would not be working on a Ph.D. In conservation biology without the guidance of the amazing professors. #warnelldawgdays

Keep those amazing #WarnellDawgDays photos coming! They are amazing, and we have a lot more Warnell prizes to give away through tomorrow. If you don't want to change your privacy settings so we can see them, feel free to email them and a description to warnelldawg@uga.edu. We'll post them for you. Cindy Mayo sent this one in of Jim Mayo's "relic" from his years at #UGA. It's not a relic. It's "vintage!" First drawing of the day is soon, so keep your fingers crossed if you've submitted something. Remember to use the hashtag!

David Subers sent this in for #WarnellDawgDays! We are loving these great photos! Keep 'em coming, guys. We are doing this through Wednesday! #ThisCouldBeYourOffice #UGA "I was hired this past May as a Forestry Technician with the Colorado State Forest Service. My work is Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA), which is a national program that essentially serves as a census of the country's forest land. We work in parternship with the United States Forest Service to collect data throughout Colorado and Wyoming. It is a fantastic job, in which I am actually paid to travel to some of the most gorgeous places on earth to measure trees and collect data on forest health. As a Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism student, I was provided with the skills necessary to succeed in many professional circumstances. As an alumnus, I consider myself very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work in such an exciting environment; thank you Warnell."

Some of the best parts of being a #WarnellDawg are all of the incredible trips I have gotten to take part in. From #TheNRRTsociety backpacking trips (with our killer merch, some sizes still available) to class field trips to the Dahonlonega Gold Museum and Kaya Vineyard. What other school in the world could I attend with such wonderful people and the opportunities to go to such amazing places? #WarnellDawgDays #backpacking #coosabackcountrytrail #vogelstatepark #dahlonega #kayavineyards

If you'd rather email them to warnelldawg@uga.edu, we are happy to post them for you! #WarnellDawg Daniel Kerber sent us this great one! #ThisCouldBeYourOffice Don't forget to check your privacy settings to make sure we can see your photo! We are having our first drawing soon, but we're doing this through Wednesday. "This summer, I was hired to work at Rocky Mountain National Park as a Park Ranger in the Interpretation Division with a Spanish Language Certification! My duties were to research, develop and present interpretive programs to groups of all ages and backgrounds from around the country and around the world. I led original hikes and talks in English and Spanish. Also, I worked at the visitor centers to help the visitors to plan their visits to the park. This job challenged me to develop my public speaking ability and to develop my ability to learn a new environment with a new natural and cultural history. Working for the National Park Service has been a great experience! the Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism program at Warnell provided me with a great background to prepare for this position!"

It's #WarnellDawgDays! We are celebrating what it means to be part of the Warnell family, and we hope you'll follow us online, play in our photo contest, and if you're in Athens join us on Wednesday for Dawgs on the Lawn (Hairy Dawg will be there!). We asked some students and alums what makes them happy about being a #WarnellDawg, so we wanted to share that to kick off this great week! We'll post some photo contest rules a bit later, so check back!

Next week, we are celebrating what it means to be part of the Warnell family, and no matter where you are or how far away, you can join in! #WarnellDawgDays is from Sept. 25-27, and it's all about having that degree with Warnell School on it. We're going to have an online raffle contest, a free lunch on the lawn in front of the school, and a 24-hour online fundraising challenge. We even set up a special Facebook photo filter just for the celebration (we hope it works!). Keep an eye out especially for our photo contest! Post pictures of you showing off what you're doing (and if you're wearing Warnell gear even better!) and use the hashtag #WarnellDawgDays to be entered into a raffle to win some awesome Warnell stuff! So keep an eye out, because we'll be posting more details as Warnell Dawg Days start!
