Detail of the second story exterior of the Dixie Theater in Staunton, VA. Opened in 1913 as the New Theater by local architectural firm T.J. Collins and Sons. A fire in 1936 destroyed the original interior. Later it was restored as the New Dixie Theater. Today this building is owned by the Staunton Performing Arts Center. Whether it will remain a movie house or become a live theater venue is uncertain. We were having coffee across the street at the By And By when I took this photo. Around the corner on Market St. is the American Shakespeare Company/Blackfriars Playhouse where we were heading next for a “behind the scenes “ tour. In the evening, we saw an excellent production of Richard III. I say excellent because I was totally engaged with it, but I had never seen it performed live before. #stauntonva#dixietheater#historylover#historictheater#mytravel#mytravelgram#virginiatravel#architecturedetails#myphotography#iphoneography#iphone7photography
Last year on our trip to the outer banks we stopped by Petersburg National Battlefield. This was an amazing, huge, and free battlefield that marked the beginning of the end of the Civil War. I recommend visiting if you are ever in the Richmond area. Give yourself plenty of time - there’s a lot of history there! My new blog post gives you more details. Link in bio.
After I spent Saturday afternoon hiking @bansheereeksnp, I treated myself to a winery! I heard that @greenhillwine had renovated, so made another visit. It is now GORGEOUS and all their wines are GREAT! Please check them out if you’re in the Middleburg, VA area! ☺️ 🍷
I haven't really shared much about it yet, but the past few months since Aram was been born have been pretty stressful. My husband had to pick up a second job just a week after Aram was born and he was working 60 hour weeks. Then we had a medical scare with Aram when he was about 10 days old. Everything turned out just fine but left us with hefty medical bills beyond what we already owed for his birth. And then of course, newborns are needy. They take a LOT of time, especially from mom. I always forget how damanding they are of my time. Since we're also homeschooling our two oldest kids, the only down time my husband and I have is usually after 9pm once everyone is in bed. And then we are usually exhausted ourselves.
We needed a vacation SO bad but just could not afford the standard week-long vacation somewhere. Great Wolf Lodge came to our rescue! We stayed 2 nights and (with the help of my amazing sister in law) had an AMAZING time! So many smiles and so many great memories! We lost a phone due to water damage (pro-tip- don't buy the cheap waterproof cellphone bags!) but really it's okay because the trip was just so wonderful! We can't wait to go back again, hopefully sometime soon! It was exactly what our family needed! So many smiles and such a happy, fun time!
I'll be sharing more about Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg on the blog soon!
⚡️TWO WEEKS until the town of #StauntonVA turns into a magical world for the weekend. We still have a few rooms available but they will NOT last long! We’re a 10 minute walk to all of the festivities and will have complimentary parking for all overnight guests. 🔮🦉#queencitymischiefandmagic#visitstaunton#luxuryhotel

Wrapping up this week's #mood series: "Virginia is for lovers". Such a silly travel slogan, but it made me feel more alone than I would've expected. Especially since I was only driving through the state because of a breakup. But this map, at an empty rest stop, gave me hope. "You are here, but you are not yet done."
