The Road by Cormac McCarthy is one of my favourite books ever, but it didn't only affect me. The post-apocalyptic novel along with the aftermath of last election, inspired americana artist Sylvia Rose Novak to make another album. Novak and McCarthy are both admirers of Southern Gothic literature and fascinated by the beauty and the darkness of the Southern lands. The duality is always mentioned but duality is no match for the songwriting polymath who grew up in Opelika, Alabama. Aside from playing each and everything with a string, Sylvia was an amateur boxer, horse trainer and custom violin builder. Before winding up in Athens Georgia, Novak met her husband Kelen Rylee whose guitar is ripping down pieces of velvet night sky. Sylvia Rose Novak handles her fears of nuclear apocalypse by producing a record that radiates and shines.
"E lo sapeva bene Paganini, che il diavolo è mancino, è subdolo e suona il violino.“ [F.Battiato]
