Kamalpreet Kaur has smashed the six-year-old meet record in the 84th All India Railways Athletics Championship held at the PAC Stadium in Lucknow from August 17-19.
The 22-year-old, who works with the Diesel Loco Modernisation Works (DMW), Patiala, swept a distance of 61.04m to break the 58.05m record set by Commonwealth Games gold medallist Krishna Poonia.
In the run-up to the gold medal, Kamalpreet pipped Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Navjeet Kaur Dhillon, who finished second with a throw of 53.30m.
Kamalpreet Kaur took to discuss throw in the year 2013 at the SAI centre in Badal village and learnt her initial lessons in the sport from coach Rakhi Tyagi. “I am satisfied with my performance since I have cleared the 60m mark. I am sure, in the coming months, I will be able to throw it farther than this,” said an elated Kamalpreet, who had narrowly missed the Asian Games qualifying mark of 57m at the 58th Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship in Guwahati in June.
The budding athlete could finish second at the event with the best effort of 55.47m.
Talking about missing out on the Asian Games berth, Kamalpreet said, “In the inter-state meet, my body did not respond well. I was hoping for the qualification, but I failed.”
Interestingly, only a few women discus throwers in India have been able to cross the 60m mark.
Asked about her future plans, Kamalpreet said: “After this event, I will be focusing on World Athletics Championship. My long-term plan is to prepare myself for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.”

Steve Prefontaine never set a World Record or won an Olympic medal. Yet, he is arguably America’s greatest distance runner. He was unbeatable for a 5 year period and was set to go on to achieve his dream at the Montreal Olympics in 1976 when he’d compete for Gold in the 5k and 10k on the track. Tragically, however, he was killed in a car crash in 1975 aged 24 before we could ever lay witness to his attempt. Looking forward to taking a deep dive into this one to find out more about the man and the legend #pre#running#trackandfield#yolo
First real track and field competition! So cool to go through all the pre-start procedures and feel like a real athlete 😎
But sometimes I just can't explain my actions 🤷♀️Why have I run so fast in the beginning instead of following the plan? Probably I'm just not able to feel the speed after a "pure orienteering summer"? The unavoidable punishment of struggling on the last 1k was a good lesson 🤥
Anyway, a new PB of 9.27 is on the result list.☺️
Thanks @wmtrackteam for smiles and words after the race! Amazing @charlottafougberg was as usual cool, strong and fast ☺️

good evening all!
I felt so much better today, and as a result I was able to get in an hour jog!
I absolutely love running in cooler weather, most preferably at night, because I just feel free to think and wander the streets. I feel free at night.
Anyways, I did an easy hour because I plan on running with some guys tomorrow. Hopefully I can get in at least 12 miles, or 90 minutes of easy running just to get to 50 miles for the week.
I fell off this week for two days and sometimes two days makes all the difference, but how you come back from setbacks is what defines who you are, and I’m here to show myself that I am capable of doing this!
I hope you all had an amazing day and have a great night!
INTO TO THE UNKNOWN: 18mi + 5k (track) ALL OUT.
Today’s session was big, it tested me physically and specially mentally. But I knew that going into it as I arrived early morning (~6am) in Santa Monica- where @jayna_lehman met me to jam out w/ me couple miles then played an important role of fueling me every couple miles. I had explained to her “let’s get these 18mi out the way, then real test will be the 5k at the track.” When we arrived to the track I was pretty exhausted and had to snap out of it cause Jay kept repeating “12.5 laps ALL OUT” but I was thinking 4laps at a time LOL. Knocking out the first mile wasn’t too bad, but mile 2 got so real and was struggling mentally. I wanted to tap out and I kept telling jay I was going to stop after mile 2. But having her there cheering me on every lap made me snap out of it and ended up finishing the last mile faster. It’s crazy how the mind works. The build up has been amazing as we’ve been jammin’ out every other week 20-22mi session. We chipping away!!!! Unlocking the long run.
Special shoutout to Jay for the 7mi jam, then supporting me to finish the workout. From mile 1 to the last lap you were there cheering me on. That’s is the definition of teamwork!
