A celebration of summer tomatoes and figs.
Buratta tri-tomato salad: fresh heirloom tomatoes, peeled harissa-garlic marinated grape tomatoes, and smoked paprika-seven-spice-brown-sugar slow roasted tomatoes with fresh figs, toasted walnuts, olives, dressed in basil and parsley oil, garlic and harissa oil, and balsamic vinegar.
This was served with slices of fresh country bread to dip and sop up the flavour bomb juices.
Please understand that I've touch of madness for flavour and love both the simple and the complex. Pleasure is out there to be experienced on many levels and I'm interested in knowing it all, as legally as possible. Sure, I get it that this won't be something you'll make and that's alright. Who has the time or the dexterity to peel grape tomatoes or slow roasted tomatoes at 150 F for 3 hours? I don't but I do it because I'm a slave to my senses.
When I eat uninspiring food I find myself feeling uninspired, as well. Once, I went through 2 weeks of eating one horrible meal after the other. My normally sunny demeanor turned sour two days into that week. I stopped saying "good morning" and replaced it with a dagger shooting stink-eye. It was pretty rough and I'm still deeply scarred from the shitty slice of peach pie I ate. Don't even get me started on the dry as the Sahara rotisserie chickens I had the poor luck of picking out, not to mention the bone in my fried rice that chipped my tooth that put me in an emergency appointment at my reptile of a dentist's chair.
Chasing flavours is about the endless possibilities our desires are capable of materializing. Much like recapturing a loving cuddle from our mothers or the first time we held hands with our beloved. Playing with flavours and finding something delicious is a bright hit of that sort of jubilant high.
Also, it's a nice way to avoid being unpleasant and surly.
I took my fam out for #dessert one night and my brother suggested for us to try @dunkndip_richmondhill 🇨🇦 because he said he's been seeing hella sponsored posts of this place on Facebook and it got him curious (YAY FACEBOOK ADS ACTUALLY WORKS!) All I can say is THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR NON-CHOCOLATE LOVERS. 🚫🍫 Unfortunately, those people do exist and I pity them and of course, diabetics (sorry!) They just recently opened this branch when we visited in July and you could really tell that because all their staff were nervous about dealing with customers. Lol. The place was nearly empty when we came and they seated us right away and explained the menu, took our orders and served us some water. I thought that was nice. Then 5 minutes after, the manager came and asked us if they could move us to a different spot because they're expecting another group to come and they want them to sit on our spot. We really didn't mind the trouble since we didn't have our food yet and since he gave my niece a complimentary ice cream in return.. So I thought that was a win-win situation. 😉 It was just funny because we literally just had to move to the next table and if I'm being honest, our new spot was better than the original spot where they first seated us.. I don't understand the need for them to move us and give us a complimentary ice cream. Lol. 😅✌🏼 So yeah, we received our orders and OMG they went all out with the serving! Believe it or not, we did not finish everything! Haha. It was also nice that they offer hella discount when you check-in on @yelp. I thought that was sweet! (Literally and figuratively!) 😁 I just wish their food presentation is more 'photogenic' ya know? I couldn't really take a good angle of everything that we ordered.. or maybe I should just brush up my "#foodtography " skills. See what I did there? 😏 SWIPE ⬅️⬅️⬅️ to see what we ordered and don't forget to Click the link in my bio ⬆️⬆️⬆️ to read my full #Yelp review! ❤ #tastetoronto#thesix#the6ix#torontoeats#yelpeats#YelpElite#yyzblogger#yyzeats#foodie#foodbloggers#foodblogger#travel#travelcanada#torontofoodies#torontofood#torontofoodie#torontoblogger#foodblogfeed#foodgram
The brown sugar milk bubble tea craze has landed in Richmond! I tried @yifangtea.ca and @bubbleworldca so I can compare 😍
Yifang had a stronger fresh milk tea taste with smaller and mushy pearls while Bubble World had harder and large pearls (chewier) and the brown sugar had a caramel taste to it. For the price, I'll go with Bubble World. I'll give Yifang another try when I am I'm in Asia.
Thanks for being the photographer @eatswitheva 🐰
One of my favourite things to get at @topgunsteak is their “B-52” - thinly sliced striploin steak grilled with onions & mushrooms, then topped with cheddar and mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles & garlic rosemary aioli! 😍
How do you like your steak sandwich?
Amuse bouche - avocado, red pepper jelly (thanks for the recommendation @mykitchendirt), creme fraiche, lemon zest. Starter - Duxelles, poached eggs yolk, spinach in filo. Main - Lamb two ways with pomme puree and french beans with a white wine sauce. Dessert - chocolate fondant with earl grey ice cream, shortbread and spun sugar. #homecooked#homemade#foodie#torontoeats#chezirvine#artofplating#amateurenthusiasm
