The amazing night sky over a stone shelter at the start of the Tasman Glacier walk, Aoraki/Mount Cook. 🤩 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Unique to the Mackenzie Region, the clear skies found in this part of the world are like nothing else in New Zealand. Very limited light pollution means the views of the night sky seem to stretch on as far as the eye can see. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In 2012, the 4,300 square kilometre area was declared the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, with light pollution strictly controlled in the area. It is the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and one of only eight in the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*FUN FACT: I’ve run a half marathon in 5 countries.
I’ve never considered myself to be an avid runner - I’m lazy, I get bored of running, I still haven’t experienced a runners high (it’s a myth right?!). But I do enjoy getting out there, exploring with nothing but myself and a podcast. My legs have taken me to some dope places and running has given me the chance to explore some unknown territory. -
P.S If you haven’t run with a podcast or audio book, let me tell you, it’s a game changer. 🙌 Anyone else training for an upcoming run or challenge?
Tasman Glacier and Blue Lakes, Canterbury, South Island. This is our third glacier visit after Grey Glacier in Torres del Paine, Chile and Martial Glacier in Ushuaia, Argentina! So far... Grey’s my favorite because of the impressive icebergs that have broken off and float in the lake in front of the glacier, but the milky blue lake reflecting the Tasman and surrounding mountains ain’t bad! 😉😁#tasmanglacier#newzealandtrip#southisland#nz#newzealand#canterburynz
