If you want to change, YOU have to MAKE the change. You can't wish and wait. You can’t cross your fingers and hope the next “thing” will be your answer. You. have. to. work. for. it.

None of us have extra time. No one is busier than the other. We all have our own busyness and craziness in our lives but it's the desire to make that change and allowing yourself just 30 min... 30 minutes of ME time. .

Getting where you are today, didn't come free. And guess what, making a change doesn't come free either. The investment in yourself is priceless and if you want the change physically, mentally and emotionally you HAVE to make the investment. If that daily Starbucks run is doable, then I can imagine a daily dose of dense nutrition AND a good workout is more than doable.

I believe in the process, not a quick fix. It’s taken 4 years of consistency, dedication and hard work to create better habits. I believe support & accountability creates lasting success! And with a strong support system of like minded individuals, I’ve been able to change my life! I believe that since you're still reading this, you're ready to make that change too.

Some days my workout attire is somewhat put together, and “cute” (nothing like va-va-voom girl pictures on the left).

Other days, like this morning, I just get out of bed - forget to grab socks. Am I wearing a bra?! Shit - back upstairs, back down stairs ... and when the workout is done and you look at your outfit and think a couple things:
1.  Man, I can’t believe I didn’t get to show this outfit off at the gym!!
2.  Where’s my lil Arabian monkey, because these pants have me feeling like Alladin #youaintneverhadafriendlikeme .

I'm feeling overwhelmed today, like frozen in my tracks and can't move forward overwhelmed.  I also call it 'spinning my wheels'. •
I know it's because I'm tired and because I have SO MANY ideas and I want to do them all at once, right now!, and because my to-do list feels insurmountable.

But I can't let myself get stuck. 
I'm not only striving to better myself, my life, my future but I also have clients, challengers and teammates who are trusting me to show up every day - to guide, inspire, mentor and flat out show them a way to their better life. •
So today when the anxiety hits, which has been multiple times already,  I'm practicing the STOP method -🛑 Stop; pause what I'm doing
Take a slow deep breath
Observe my thoughts, emotions & physical sensations 
Proceed with a one-thing focus •
Calendar. 📅

I'm taking 10 minutes to transfer my 'to-do' list over on my calendar as 'to be accomplished by' plan.

This gives me focus, a structured purpose and the organization I need to feel calm and be productive. 🙏🙏🙏 Please, please, PLEASE share any tips you have when you feel overwhelmed that I might be able to implement as well.  I'd be so grateful! 💕💕💕

This morning I had an epiphany... I’ve been going through an identity crisis with my health and wellness journey along with my wellness biz and quite frankly it just left me quiet the last few weeks.

What does my wellness journey really look like? How do I want to help people through their fitness journey? Who am I portraying myself as on this fitness journey? The questions kept running through my head until this morning!
•
HEALTH AND WELLNESS IS ALL ABOUT BALANCE! Something I’m finally coming to terms with. There is a time and a place for everything. A time and a place to be strict with your diet. A time and a place to indulge and enjoy yourself. And a time and a place to stay on track! THIS IS WHAT MY WELLNESS JOURNEY LOOKS LIKE!

My first 15lbs were strict. Following a meal plan closely, working out religiously and not letting myself have too many treats. My last 5lbs have been BALANCE..keeping myself on track. Yes it may have taken a little bit longer and that’s OKAY! I still weigh myself every morning and use the scale as information! If I’m not happy with it then I better change what I’m doing! Working out is finally something I’ve made a non-negotiable in my life. Nutrition is where I eb and flow. Choices are most often healthy but on occasion they aren’t!

Understanding how you want to approach your health and wellness journey is so incredibly important! If you want to shed weight like crazy and prep for a competition your journey is going to be strict! If you know you want to lose weight but are happy with keeping it slow and steady then you’ll be focusing on BALANCE!
•
There is a journey out there for everyone! It may even be a combination of what I just described.. similar to how mine was. The most important thing is you make the decision to start and take it at your own pace!

There are a lot of folks talking about the nervous system and trauma. And even more talking about “healing” trauma. But please, please, please make sure the folks you follow and pay attention to have a mental health background. There are nuances to understanding trauma that are vital for healing survivors. I see and hear well-meaning folks share information about the nervous system or how to heal trauma (through yoga, forgiveness, mindfulness, breath work, etc.) without fully understanding the complexities of trauma and it’s impacts. .

In the yoga space sometimes people poo-poo talk therapy or medication in lieu of body movement...and this is dangerous. One method is not superior to another and each survivor has to find what works for them. Complex developmental trauma is different than single-event trauma. Interpersonal trauma is different than collective trauma.  And healing trauma is a process that takes time. No one is healed in a 60 minute yoga class. It can certainly create space for healing to occur and allow one to notice where energy is stuck in the body but healing happens in a variety of ways and over years, if not decades. .

If we don’t pay attention to what we say and make sure our sharing is grounded, not just in “the universe told me to do this work”, but in “I have a degree/expertise in this”, otherwise we are doing more damage than good. #webelongtoeachother #loveethicyoga .

Some of you may know that I’m attempting to get into a grad program in counseling therapy so that I can get onto helping bereaved parents like I’ve always desired. Some have asked me why I want to go back to school and why don’t I just stay with yoga. Yoga is a tool. It’s an effective tool. But to truly help bereaved parents which is a depth of pain most cannot conceive, I believe that clinical mental health therapy in ADDITION to somatic therapy is the path. Besides, I know from experience, bereaved parents who are deeply struggling especially with PTSD will not seek out a yoga teacher or yoga therapist for the real help they need. I want to be there with true, comprehensive help.

I follow a handful of simple principles and learned I could eat nutritiously, still have my occasional treat, feel great and full of energy and still lose weight. 
Plus, I broke up with emotional eating.  That was/is HUGE for me! 
The pain, shame, guilt I felt after emotional eating could send me in a downward spiral for the rest of the day or for several days.

Parabens penetrate the skin and act like a weak estrogen in the body 😑 - and when we lather our bodies in soaps, lotions, etc. containing parabens, we are causing even more hormone disruption.

The 1st 5-10 lbs you drop of a new "lower calorie" or "lower carb" or "meal replacement shake" program are water weight. Period. I know, it hurt my feelings the 1st time I heard this in college too. This is why people get so easily sold on those 3 week/21 day/24 day type cleanses/overhauls/resets whatever they're called. You SHOULD drop a chunk FAST if you're going from a standard American diet to a healthier anything. (Seriously just by reducing sodium even if you don't change calories. Real > Processed) And hey, for some people, that's enough to motivate them to continue a healthier lifestyle, so it's not all bad. Just don't be fooled by long term LIFESTYLE changes vs RAPID RESULTS. 
There are absolutely caveats to this, like people that have issues like edema or medications that make them tend to retain excess water. Those that are already close to their ideal body weight and may only need to lose 5-10 pounds. And of course, those cutting weight to make a weight class for a sport. Then you ask why? . Typical response would be, you body is just going to turn it into sugar and store it as fat. . 
Really...? Well “SCIENCE” says...that’s simply not..even close actually. -
1️⃣ your body doesn’t have an off switch when you close your eyes at night. You’re still going to digest food. The difference between eating carbohydrates at your desk at work versus laying in your bed at night. (Less than 2% difference I’m metabolic rate with these two instances according to studies). .

2️⃣eating carbohydrates in it of themselves very rarely effects total fat mass in humans. This is a process called “De Novo Lipogenesis” (DNL) . (Link at the bottom)

3️⃣We store bodyfat due to TOTAL CALORIC BALANCE. Overconsumption of food, under estimating calories burned.  If you are not losing fat, it’s due to not truly being in a deficit, not because you chose to eat your carbs at night.

✅ track how consistent you’ve been in the gym. ....yes, exercising consistently is how this whole thing works....can’t be a couch potato and expect results. . ✅ see your movement, yep, check your phone you’ve been scrolling on IG with every day. Check the HEALTH APP. Every smart phone tracks your steps. See what you’ve been trending... them increase it. . -
⬇️🤓⬇️ 📚 The group with larger AM meals had a greater weight reduction due to less carbohydrates during the night. But no significance on actual fat mass reduction. -

😳 when I got sick and almost didn’t workout for a week, I got nervous those fears would come true.
👊🏻 but NOPE. I started this, and I’m going to see it all the way through! Even if it’s not on the same timeline I originally set. That’s life and that’s okay. •
If these fears have ever crossed your mind... let’s talk! I’ve been there and I’m going THROUGH it. Some days are harder than others but the mental and physical growth you see at the end is worth it. Sounds good, but unfortunately, the body simply doesn’t work like that. .

All though we don’t fully understand metabolism (science community) what we do know is, total energy intake(calories) paired with exercise is the best way to mitigate metabolism from down regulating. .

Eating 6-8 meals is simply unreasonable for most busy Americans now days. Working 10-12 hour shifts. Instead. Work with your schedule. Eat nutritionally dense foods. (Plant/animal) 2-4 meals that meet the energy requirements (calories). .

1,600 calories with 6 meals is average of 267 calories per meal. (Which is fine, if that works for YOU). .

1,600 calories Split into 4 meals 400 calories. A lot more satiating. .

Studies show increase meal frequency increases hunger, but no significant improvements in body composition. (Fat loss)

This theory was taken from body builders. They thought bodybuilders were getting extremely lean because of them eating 6-8 meals. No one pointed out the fact that these massive human beings were eating 3,000-5,000 calories a day, and that it makes total since to break 3,000 calories up into 6 meals (500 cals per meal). Rather than an average 150 Lb female eating 1,600 calories. . -

In context of the skeletal-muscular system, men and women are alike.  With that being said. There are and should never be “workout for girls, or workout for guys” -
It’s all marketing.  You have the same bone and muscle as the opposite gender. The only difference is women having a wider pelvis and hips for child birth. . -
Here’s what exercise does. -Grow muscle tissue -Makea you stronger -(Potentially) Increases metabolism
-Helps lose fat (depending on diet) -
-makes you feel good -helps you think clearer - number one stress relief, right above sex. -speaking of sex, makes you feel sexy as fuk. -

Pick up them weights, get sexy as fuk. .. Oh and for my fellas out there. Just because glute exercises and other leg exercises don’t “look the most masculine” it’s probably what you NEED. Avoiding deadlift and squats (full range of motion) is what’s probably holding back your overall strength. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
