On Saturday, I won my 6th AZ state championship, this one being my first meet with the new classes as an 81kg lifter. But this weekend wasn’t about me. This weekend was the start of something special.
6 of Scottsdale Barbell’s lifters qualified for the American Open Series 3 in Las Vegas next month. Coach @maxwhooley handled everyone in the back room, allowing me to focus on making sure the meet ran smoothly. @klwill88 and @mikepcfrs stepped up and hit long-time goals, Rocky is making his way back to Master’s Nationals and @emilykhansen knocked out a 6/6 performance!
I’m so proud of this crew, and excited for what’s to come in the future. There are too many people to thank for their contributions this weekend, from the board, the volunteers, judges, loaders, athletes, and fans. You know who you are, and I appreciate each of the roles you all played in making this year’s State Championships a massive success. Thank you.
Great day at the NSW State championships.
First ever wrestling comp and a great experience. Huge thanks to our coach @selcuk.10101 who put so much time and effort into preparing us technically, physically and mentally. You have made a huge difference in my own game and life which has been invaluable.
The whole team performed amazingly especially considering we haven't even been wrestling for a year yet which shows what we are on the right track.
Would have never thought I would have entered a wrestling competition a few years ago but this was one of the most enjoyable competitions I've ever competed in.
Ended up with second place in freestyle and default gold for Greco since no one else entered 😢
Also huge thanks to everyone from @kingsacademy.com.au who came to support, we probably had the biggest but most definitely the loudest crowd there. Made the competition 100% more fun.
That's enough rambling 😅

First time corner coaching the team at the NSW Wrestling State Championships today // Big congrats to gold medallist's and first-time State Champions @rocketto and @shengeliatsotne !! Sydney Uni takes two🏅P. S. Sorry Tsotne I can't speak Georgian, but you didn't need any of my screaming anyway
The team rode beautifully today in support of @cshanx 2nd place at the California State Championships. We were optimistic about our chances at the top-step, but chapeau to @chrisjcoble on taking home the jersey. Victory for the old guys 😜. Special shout-out to @stuartgrosser for his win in the Elite 4’s and securing his upgrade to Cat 3.
The second longest active #highschoolfootball win streak in the nation ended Friday as Soldotna HS in #Alaska lost on the last play of the game. See video of final play at link in bio.
The Stars, who have won six straight #statechampionships had won 59 straight.

A 1970’s Walmer Fire Brigade junior competition T-Shirt sits proudly amongst other photo memorabilia from competition days ranging from 1950 though to the 1990’s.
This extract from our history book ‘Walmer Fire Brigade: Our Past and Our Future 1942 - 2011’ notes the success of our brigade at Regional and State Level.
“Members of the Walmer Fire Brigade embraced competitions right from when they were introduced to the Rural Fire Service in 1950. Competition also encouraged younger people to join the Brigade and gave them the opportunity to travel to other parts of the state to compete in State Championships. The Walmer Fire Brigade was very competitive and successful over the forty years that they competed, evident by the number of trophies held by members. Walmer members were State Champions in individual and many team events. The junior members, aged 11-16 years, were also very competitive and successful. The involvement and experience gained at junior level assisted members to become very competent firemen at senior level.”
CONGRATULATIONS to our very own superstar Nikki McGilvray who represented South Coast PSSA in the State Championships last week. It was a tough 3 days of competition against the best primary school netballers from 14 different districts around the state. Should be super proud of your efforts Nikki, and cant wait to watch you kill it on the big stage in the future 🌟🏆 #southcoastnetball#statechampionships#netball#gothejoeys
FIRST OFF, lemme start by saying that getting to states was an amazing accomplishment in itself. Not only for my Nov B team, but our whole club. *Back story: Tai & Henry (my awesome coaches) took a risk becoming coaches at WYC this season. Yacht Club had been in probation, & on the verge of getting KICKED OUT of Hui Wa’a. They brought this club from winning NoThInG since like 2014 to winning 3rd in our Hui Wa’a Single A Division at the Hui Wa’a Championship & today winning 4th overall in Single A Division at the HCRA State Championship!!!! THANKS FOR PUSHING & TRAINING US COACHES!!!
& Now on a more personal note: If you really know me...you know i’m a lazy POS that would rather chill all day at the beach vs breaking a sweat😂 but paddling really is the most amazing sport (& workout) i have ever been introduced to...& IM IN LOVE! So i have to give a big thank you to my dad who made me sit in the canoe & take pics that fateful day in February & got this whole thing started for me😜 & also thanks to my mama, thank you for supporting me & our club all season Wa’a Mama💖
to my QUEEN NOVICE B’s🐝: i love you ladies & WE DID IT!!! we made it to states!!! it was a humbling experience today to say the least, but now we know we’re 11th in the WHOLE STATE! (which i think is pretty damn cool lol)
This regatta season was full of ups, downs, learning experiences, technique training, tire pulling, sweat, tears, & laughs...& i wouldn’t have wanted it ANY other way!! Cheers to our Paddling Ohana🍻 I Love You! “Yacht Club on 3...!”💕 @wycoc6paddling

“Wrestling State Championships 2017... this match Was against the # 3 ranked kid in State... I was really intimidated, and was losing 2-0 the entire match. In the 3rd and final round with about 20 seconds left I was on top, and after An intense scramble I managed to lock up a Cradle and take him to his back for 3 Near fall, winning the Match 3-2... I was so Shocked by what I just accomplished that I slapped the mat out of excitement... I ended up placing Fourth overall... Thanks so much Coach @franktrained for Coaching me through this very long and tiring experience”
