Hey it’s Merlion time!
Mer “Sea” 🌊 + Lion 🦁 = Merlion.
My lion head represents Singapore's original name—Singapura—meaning "lion city" or "kota singa". While my fish body symbolises Singapore’s origins as a fishing village and it is created to welcome all visitors to Singapore.
I was first used in Singapore as the logo for the tourism board, designed by My owner Alec Fraser-Bruner, from 26th of March 1964 to 1997 and in 20th of July 1966 I became the trademark symbol.
You can find the largest me in Sentosa where you can enter my body but the tallest me is at Mount Faber. ⛰
