Exactly one yeat ago today, oct. 15th 2017, I cracked the 5km in 30 min mark for the first time. It has since become something I take for granted. there are so many people here on insta who run faster and farther than me... but its important to remember where you are in your own journey. I’ve been running for less that two years now, and I have made awesome progress (👏 yeah to me 😅) and even though I do not run 3min/km or marathons, I am who I am and I should only compare myself to me. I MADE IT!!!! Whoop whoop 😂👍😅💪👏🥇 I made it through 5 km, stayed under 30 min and my foot only pinched one time, guess thats what success feels like 😜👍 I have a lot of training ahead of me, but that’s something I can do. Today was definitely a good comeback, and I even got a 3rd place in my age group. I spend my Sunday sorting through stuff in my apartment, packing some boxes, doing laundry. I got very down towards the afternoon - its just such annoying and depressing work! So I took my friends advice and went for a run. 5 km in the sun helped me get a clear head and let the negativity go. Also, the wine afterwards helped a lot. I am starting to have a plan again and hopefully the last two weeks in the old job aren’t goi g to be as stressful as I am expecting... #running #runninglena

My first race in the new colors is going to be the BSV 10 km German Championships this month. Not that I have any ambitions on that distance and I am still concidering the shorter distance (3.7 km) but I am deff going to race. #throwback to one if the first races this year, together with my dad. Today was meant to be the last race before a few weeks off running... but instead sunday’s race turned out to be the last and today is going to be a DNS. I got bitten/stung by some kind of insect on sunday and it got infected with my leg swollen and a little sore. So I am doing the grown up thing and resting and cooling and just taking it easy - which is something I sorely need after the weeks I have had at work... but I really wanted to run #köhlbrandbrückenlauf for the first time. Being reasonable is so hard and not very fun... being out for the count isn’t either... 😢 BUT I had an amazing season, going from recovering from a broken foot to running a 5’12” pace! Collecting 16 medals 🏅 🎖 🥇 (I just love these things!) And I am ready to start my first cross run season. Credit to @running_lena : I have been running exactly once in the past ten days. I have been to the gym not even once. The reason? Millions and millions of hours at work... headache since yesterday... I cannot decide what to do today, unsure of what my body is trying to tell me. Do I need to suck it up or should I take it easy with some yoga? Man, listening to you body can be hard! Tomorrow I have the last round of speed training here in Hamburg 😭 I cannot believe the ‘lasts’ have begun already. It’s always my least favorite part of moving... and I have had quite a lot of experience with it during the last five years... so now I am going to enjoy the LAST training session, and try to destress before Sunday’s race. Friday night I raced the #lichterlaufhamburg 6.6 km #channelcrosshamburg race. I had decided to race the short distance instead of the long one pretty last minute. The week had been a long one, I was tired and felt worn out, so I was longing for a shorter but faster race. I went fast but didn’t look at my watch, but just tried to run fast but not faster that it still felt good. The second round I tried to go faster, and I managed a slightly negative split. I finished after 34:40, giving me a 5’15” pace. I am very happy with that result! I had planned to stay sub 35, so goal achieved! There were several flights of stairs on the course, which I feel gave me a benefit as I have trained that for the xterra races and the stair run! #runninglena #beatyesterday #justdoit #i12run2 #instarunners #runnersofinstagram #whywerun #whyirun #myshapemoment #darumlaufenwir #inspiringwomenrunners

Giving you best isn’t always pretty. When I work out, I sweat, I get a red face. I have long been envious of all the girls who look just as good after working out than before. Who have makeup in place and pretty hair while I look like I am dying and my hair is a mess. But you know what? It really doesn’t matter. You have to decide if you want to look pretty or fight like a beast. I choose beast mode and I am thankful that my body lets me do that! Fight strong, not pretty! CORRECTION: I want to take back some of the negativity I put into my last post. I was tired and hated those 19 sec (which by the way were only 10 sec with corrected time!!!) that stood between me and my sub15... since then I’ve had some coffee (always helps), food (also) and gained some perspective. It might not have been enough for the sub 15 today. But I managed to get my FIRST EVER AGE GROUP VICTORY!!!! 1st place!!!! Bam, take that negativity! And I got 5th woman overall in the 3 km! I am not going to think about all those faster women running the longer races, I am just going to enjoy this victory! I have time to work on my speed, but this is a hobby. A hobby I have been doing for little more than 1.5 years... I have improved from running 1 km at a 7’something pace to WINNING MY AG!!!! So yeah, I might even wear my medal to work tomorrow 😂😂😂😂 no, just kidding. (No I’m not, deff going todo that) Remember to celebrate you victories. Big ones and small ones. I am trying (and often failing) at not comparing myself to others, but today I was down over not comparing well to myself. I have run 3+km at a sub5 pace. Once. Not being able to repeat it today was annoying. But this shows that sometimes you should just wait a moment before you throw in the towel.... My legs started shaffing (i knew these shorts were a bad idea) And I gave up on my goal at km 2... with only 1 km to go!!!! How stupid! Then I tried to hold on and in the end the clock said 15:18!!!!!!! 🤬 pardon my language... those 18 SECONDS were unnecessary and I could have gotten that sub15 after all... well, next time! It wasnt much fun and I didn’t see much of the surroundings, but I am glad I tried again. Today was rest day. I wasn’t feeling so good, so I stayed home and prepared mentally for the week to come. Its my last week before a two week staycation. I have a race and a duathlon. Hyrox training early today as there was a storm warning for later tonight ⚠️ I did some intervals on the treadmill followed by sled pushes and weighed lunges. I don’t want to blow my legs completely before next weeks Duathlon so I stuck to two exercises and gave it all I had. Still a long way to go! I habe been sleeping poorly for weeks now and In sweating all day long! Stayed long at work today, as there is air con 😅😅 Well, I decided against the planned brick workout and did a 1 hr spinning class instead. It was hard but short 😜 And I was sweating some more. Me still looking happy after the bike ride... I did a brick workout today. 5 km run, 20 km bike and one more round of 5 km run (or rather; slow jog) The first run was ok, felt really fast but averaged at 6‘20“ pace, the bike part was great! Pretty flat course but Ok for this purpose. Then another 5 km run... this one was hard! My legs were heavy, the heat definitely got to me, and I ended up with an average pace of 7‘00“ ( I considered not posting the pace... but for more reality on instagram, here you are)
In light of me just returning from being sick and down for the better part of two weeks I guess this is ok. With only a few weeks to go until my next Duathlon, I need to get my 💩 together! I tried out my new running backpack with water reservoir and what can I say - I LOVE it! finally a way to combine running with handbags 😍😂 No, but it’s seriously nice to finally have a way to drink and store phone, keys, rain jacket without having to think about where to put it all! After setting my alarm wrong and waking up 1 hr 45 minutes late, the morning was a little more stressful than I had planned... but apart from breakfast I got everything ready and arrived at the race in good time (it was an hr by public transport 😬) I had planned to try for a sub 25 min, but I am far away from reaching that goal atm... 27’14” 5 K. Warning: ⚠️ long post ahead 😁 I just finished another round of speed training and I have to say it wasn’t my best... My mind wasn’t in it and I kept circling through „I am too tired“ - „this is too hard“ - „you are not pushing yourself hard enough“ - „don’t injure yourself“. In the end I could have given it more but I was stil tired . Not the satisfactory kind of tired when you know you did your best though, kind of frustrating. In just 1 week I am going to race my first ever 3000 m race! I am excited, afraid and very very nervous. I had expected myself to be at another level by now... but While I was jogging home tonight, I realized how much my own expectations are weighing me down. I started running just 1.5 years ago. The pic on the left shows me at the beginning. I had wanted to run for so long but my body wasn’t up to it (and looking back I know why!) I started slowly, building strength and muscle and then ever so slowly building up from 0.5miles... slow but steady progress and I didn’t rush it! So why do I expect quick progress now? Why don’t I allow my body the time it needs to build up to new challenges? I haven’t taken good care of it for many years and now I want it to turn into usain bolt in a couple of months? Not going to happen. Slow and steady wind the race. I have had good days and bad days, slow runs and fast ines, I am running much faster than I could last year, I have completed a triathlon, duathlon, half marathon and so much more! And there is so much more to come! So I decide not to let the fact that I didn’t wake up super speedy this morning 😜 get me down. I decide to love my body for what it lets me do, and my mind for what it makes possible, and my brain because it takes care of the other two 😄 I love running and working iut and I want to keep doing it for many years to come. Had a really good run today! I set out for a long run after work. The weather was a nice cloudy 18 degrees, perfect for running! I managed to get 17 km in a nice relaxed pace and at a low heart rate. Towards the end I could feel my legs getting tired, but otherwise I felt great! I am back at it. Speed training tonight in warm and delightful but hard 30 degrees! We did 6x 450m intervals - I ended up with 4’05 to 4’50pace. I started too fast, and got slower each round. Now I am sooo sooo tired! I have never been so tired after a run. I couldn’t even get my legs up afterwards. We did some stair runs afterwards, and even though it took some effort to get myself moving, it helped! Its a great way to shake out the legs! Tomorrow I am going to have really sore legs. Quick 10 km run today. I had planned to take my bike out today, but got called into work. Back home, a run had to do. It was warm, 24 degrees, so I could run in shorts and a top (the pic is old - I didn’t take a foto today) The only downside was, that my tummy started to hurt and bloat after about 4 km... Had a long run planned this evening. I made it 11.6 km at a 5’33” pace when I had to visit the bathroom... had to walk home because I could no longer run. I seem to have this problem regularly at runs over 10 km, but so far I have rarely had to walk... luckily the weather was great. Apart from that, my body feels good and I am getting my energy back. #medalmonday for the third time this month (and year)! I am an Xterra warrior! My legs are still very tired, but I am high on all the amazing experiences the weekend brought me. The weekend started with my bike almost falling off its bike carrier on my car while on the high way... human error, I cannot blame anyone but myself. I got a shock and my bike got injured... luckily nobody got seriously hurt - nobody but the bike. So I started into competition weekend without a bike... After some drama on my side, I decided with a heavy heart not to compete and to drive up to rebild, just to watch. Upon arrival, seeing all the mtbs and bikers, I felt my heart break from my decision. So we went out to Skørping, the next town over, and I rented a bike 🚲. I was afraid it would be hard to race on a different bike, but the bike was awesome. The gears switched like butter (probably not a figure of speech but in lack of a better one...), even steep hills were no problem! But I am getting ahead of myself... I had a great Saturday at @comwellhotels rebild bakker with my sis. We chilled by the pool, did some steem bathing and 🧖‍♀️ sauna and just relaxed 😎 Carbo loading was covered by burger and beer 😝 Sunday morning started foggy and a little cold. We enjoyed the great buffet and then walked the 280 m to the athletes village at @triatland_rebild . I picked up my bib number and checked in the bike. Another thing I was afraid of, was not finding the bike in transition 😜 We started the race and went for the first run. It was starting to get warm, the sky was clear and the sun was out. We ran through the forest and up and down the #rebildbakker (rebild hills). Along the way we had to conquer three long hills, up stairs and down slopes. At one point I ran through a herd of sheep 🐑 🐑 🐑 It was shard but running through such amazing nature is just awesome! I got back to T1 after about 18 minutes, took a few good sips of water and left on my bike. The bike track went through both #roldskov (rold forest) and rebild bakker. Just sitting here, relaxing a bit after training tonight. We did 12 hill repeats at 3’40” pace and I added 2.5 km warmup and “cool down” (a little fast to really cool down... wanted to get home though) at 5’30”. I can definitely feel the improvement the past eight weeks have brought me. It has been hard but so worth it. I need someone to push me to do these intervals. I am not good at leaving my comfort zone on my own, so its worth it paying someone ti do it 😜 And the great company is an added bonus! So, I got home from work and parked myself on the sofa. There I stayed for three hours straight - the weather was bad and I was sore and what can a girl do... But after first reading about intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for working out and then talking to a friend about the sun which had just come out and the pleasure of running in the sunshine (extrinsic motivation!) I decided to go out and go for a nice short run. After all, it makes me feel better every time (intrinsic motivation). So I started out on my nice easy short run, but soon felt that I could give it more today. I ran by the airport, a really nice sand path, and it was warm but not too hot with a nice breeze. And when I realized I was going way fast, I decided to just hang in there. So by the time I got home, 5 km, 26:37 later, I had managed to run one of my fastest 5 Ks! 5’17’’ pace!!!! It was nice to prove to myself that I sill got it, especially after my slow half on sunday. And now I can keep blaming the heat, my blisters and whatever, but my training seems to be on the spot 😊💪🥇On sunday I am running my first official 10 K this year. Lets see how it will go. It was cold, it was wet, it was hard, it was amazing! I have a real love-hate relationship going on with interval training! Ever since I started my interval training with a trainer once a week, I have definitely gotten better at kicking my own ass. I have never been too good at leaving my comfort zone, but this is definitely helping me do just that! We warned up and then did 2x4x60 min sprints. I am quite fast on short distances (read: 10-20 m!) but 30+ seconds is something I am struggling with! This workout kicked my butt. Especially as we ran in the rain, later it turned into sleet and we got sprayed in mud! But in the end, it’s definitely worth the effort! Now I have just one day of work left before its a looong easter weekend! I think this is very important to remember! We all habe different abilities, different bodies, different fitness levels. Measure your results with your own, not with others! And even being last can be an accomplishment, aa you need to show up and finish in order to be last! So being last beats DNF or DNS every day as far as I see it!

Comparing where we are in life to others is easy to get caught in but rarely productive. I've been discouraged in past situations from comparisons and thought 'I don't want to do this anymoreee' necause givong up seemed easier but what's the alternative? Settling for something less. If we're struggling with going for what we want because we aren't moving as fast as we think we should then quitting isn't the solution. Quitting is only going to slow us down! We can't allow the achievement timeline of others to affect our motivation or our idea of success. We all have a different path and different timing in life, that's what keeps it interesting👌 Keep going guys! #YouveGotThis

Totally destroyed after 8 km interval on the Woodway treadmill! They are new at my gym, and as I had to retreat indoors due to continuous snow fall, it was nice to change it up from the standard treadmill. I had wanted to try these in like forever! On the trails... I hadn’t anticipated conditions as difficult as they were. The air was quite warm (5 degrees...) and the snow had melted almost anywhere. But then suddenly there were paths covered entirely in ice... next mud, then some ice again, uneven frozen snow, more mud... but it was fun! I am, however not in as good a form as I had hoped to be at this point.
