Life is fucking overwhelming sometimes. Recently, I’ve been dealing with a mix of not so nice emotions, feeling like I’m not enough, doubting myself left and right. Then, I remember the crazy shit storm that is our government, ripping families apart, brain washing us, destroying the environment, and I feel terrible for making it all about me. SO OVERWHELMED. Sometimes it feels like it’s all too much, I don’t even know where to begin. How did we get here? How did we become so disconnected? Sometimes I get so caught up in this negativity, both internal and external, it makes me literally wanna curl up into the tiniest ball and disappear. But, I was not brought here to simply disappear. I was not born to be controlled by my self doubt, or an asshole president. Neither were you. It’s time we look ourselves in the mirror, tap into our strength, and fight back. You are strong, worthy and loved. Let’s turn that against the society that does everything possible to make you believe otherwise. I don’t know about you, but I’m reeeaaalllyyy sick of giving into self doubt, and even more sick of people standing idly by while our government continues to destroy the world we live in. It’s time. No more playing small. Let’s wake up. Start asking questions. Utilize local farms, move your body daily, breathe fully, trust, fight injustice whenever and however you can, sign petitions, donate, call local government officials, support small businesses, be more conscious of overall waste and plastic usage, have the hard conversations- these are some of the things I came up with for myself when reflecting on all of this. What are yours? Let’s share them, come together, and fight for this world. #riseup#bethechange#cometogether
Before shutting your eyes for the day— find something that makes you laugh + then listen to something that inspires you. Oprah, Mel Robbins, Richard Branson, and Walt Disney are some of my favorite starting points there. What you spend your time listening to and looking at contributes deeply to how you think and carry yourself. (Pssst... Following the news on TV or via Twitter/Facebook are not good uses of your time 🤐.) Consider the quality of stuff you need to fill your brain up with to take your life up to the next level... 🧠 Be happy. Laugh a little. Empower yourself. Let’s rise up together. 💪🏼

I’ve been going into the cracks and crevices of my heart to find the words to encompass the depth of the deep grief, rage, anguish, and horror that I have felt seeing the images of families being torn part, and children being held captive apart from their loved ones. As a native woman descendant of women and men who had their children taken from them and of people who in unspeakable acts were the children taken by force from their families to boarding schools as part of the assimilation tactics of this country. Waves of tears and rage roll through the earth of my body to see this repeating itself; to feel the places in my ancestral memory that is moved and deeply pained by this....my great grandmother was taken from her family at 4 and didn’t return from the boarding school until she was 18, when she couldn’t even speak to her own parents anymore because they had beaten the language and culture from her and all those poor children. I have been writing letters, making phone calls...but also letting the emotions roll out; as my water table is so high, tears flowing out of me like rivers, torrents of life giving water, that gives life to the enduring strength that those same ancestors seeded for us to find when we needed it, generations later. This immigration crisis is a huge trauma trigger for me and for many native peoples. It is horrendous, nauseating, and I honor what my ancestors endured by lifting my voice and taking whatever actions I can to help reunite these broken families. I will not be complicit in my silence, I will not stand by idly While this administration does this again. We do not forget you, little ones. The whispers of resistance that run like wild rivers in our blood and bones will become torrents of song that will carry you home to your mothers and fathers. We do not forget you. The history of this country is one big moral crisis. Let’s join together in solidarity to find our way through this one. As Sitting Bull said; “ let’s put our minds together and see what kind of life we can make for our children.” We can do better. #thisisamerikka#callyourrepsdaily#liftyourvoices#takeaction#donoharm#riseup#nomore
Whole lotta stuff happening in the world. Thursday is the longest day of the year. Let’s make it count. I got ideas over at @510families for things to do that involve getting outside. (Link in profile) Mostly in the awesome places of @ebrpd like Sibley where this family portrait was taken. Between the sunrise at 5:48 and the sunset at 8:43 also make some time to hug your people and speak up for your values. As #Hamilton says, it’s time to rise up! #america#optoutside#summersolstice#getoutside#nature#hamilton#riseup#longday#ebparks#linkinprofile 👆
There’s something uniting and universal about children. Their undeniable innocence and naïveté is pure and unadulterated. The recognition of the right of children to be free from bodily harm and physical and emotional pain is ubiquitous among all races, religions, and political ideologies. Yet here we are. Under the banner of red, white, and blue, severe emotional and psychological pain and suffering is being inflicted upon children on our land and in our name. We must rise up. We must say no. We cannot stand by idly. We must be the voice for the muzzled, caged, and huddled masses. #standup#riseup#familiesbelongtogether

This is my son Kiran, the thought of him being taken from me is the worst thought imaginable. Right now in our country children are being taken from their parents as if they are stray animals; torn from their families who have come to this country often times to flee violence, persecution and extreme poverty. Is this what we have become? Have we disconnected from humanity so much that we feel this is okay, that this is a issue of politics that the government will decide upon. This is an issue of humanity of basic human rights. Our administration is repulsive and it is up to us as citizens to say "no more"! Just donated to the organization www.togetherRising.org to support ending this madness. Please do what you can for the sake of humanity. #healhumanity#impeachtrump#riseup

What is happening in America right now is shameful and dark and tragic and it is tempting to give into despair as we see our standing in the world plummet and our beloved country become almost unrecognizable to many of us. No matter your politics, you have probably held a child and felt their panic when their parent disappears, even for a moment. I have worked with children all my adult life and my heart is breaking as I imagine how so many little children, who have already suffered so much just to get to our country, are now terrified and surrounded by chain link fences and an unfamiliar language. And there is no plan to reunite them. This is unconscionable. If you are feeling helpless and horrified, here are some ideas for becoming a helper. As Mr. Rogers famously said...look for the helpers. Today we need to become one. We must act. 💔#familiesmuststaytogether#raices#riseup#teddybearsandletters#beahelper#vote#achangeisgonnacome#voteinnovember#keepfamiliestogether#standupforthechildren#wearebetterthanthis
