Multicystic Dysplastic Kidneys. A year ago today was one of the worst days of my life. The day went so slowly whilst they did so many tests and scans, I remember when we finally went to collect Isla them telling me they hadn’t seen it in a dog before but there was no cure and we’d be lucky if she made her first birthday. A lot has changed over the last year, she has become my shadow, she’s always by my side and apart from work if I do it she does it, but most importantly she’s still here! Every day I wish she will be my little miracle and still be here when she’s 15 and that love can be the best cure of them all, because it’s true, if love could save her she really would live forever 💕. Here’s to proving the professionals wrong, remembering how lucky we are and having years more together 🐾🎉
Who loves Chicken Soup?!? Who doesn’t love the amount of sodium in most cans or the weird chicken that’s in them?
When I realized what was actually IN food my whole opinion on having time to meal prep v it just not being a priority shifted massively!
I refused to put crap in my sons body, not to mention he has one kidney so we have to stay away from any and all added salt!
So I put the excuses aside, learned to efficiently prep, eat what was made and have it taste good! Like this soup! It took all of 30 minutes and not only was it a hot yummy dinner for all, but it is my leftovers today during the stomach bug!
Today marks Blue's one year adoption anniversary!!! 🐶🎉#adoptiversary#foreverhome#furbaby#miniaussie#dogsofsanfrancisco
At 6 months old he was diagnosed with #renaldysplasia and a #heartmurmur . Our vet gave him a life expectancy of 1-2 years. Along with health issues Blue also has behavioral issues that stem from his fear of strangers. It's been a tough road for us, but at 18 months old our little #warrior continues to fight everyday!
Thank you, Blue, for your love, companionship, and for the constant reminder that we all need to consistently practice kindness and compassion 💙 #bekind#bluefiercest
Today has been one of the hardest days for me. I had to say my final goodbye to my sweet Kali girl. For years she has been a soldier fighting but her body just couldn't fight anymore. She beat every odd and I was always on "borrowed time" but it hasn't made this day any easier.
At 8 months, I discovered Kali was in stage 5 kidney failure from a congenital disorder called renal dysplasia. The vet told me, with such fast prognosis in her first 8 months, she had a few weeks to the absolute best case scenario being 6 months.
I was told, all I could do was try a kidney diet food but it likely would not help. We researched and researched and came up with our own treatment plan based on human kidney care and research studies. In one month her "values" stopped declining.
Over FIVE beautiful and butt wiggling years, her blood work values have amazed the vets with only slight increases every few months. Two years ago she began have seizure like episodes. Again, began treatment and shocked the vets. The most recent hit, boxer cardiomyopathy hit her hard. She fought hard, stabilized and returned home. But with just a few weeks, between her heart and kidneys, she could not fight any longer.
This dog has touched my life and heart more than I could have ever imagined. She has given me strength, heart, and peace by just blessing me with her presence. Kali will forever be in my heart and memories.💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 #boxercardiomyopathy#renaldysplasia#mysweetgirl#iwillalwaysloveyou
I wanted to share this to help raise awareness. This beautiful little pup used to join in on Sunday morning bootcamp with me and @melissaewartx she was a beautiful bouncing pup full of life and excitement. She stalked us like it was a game as we lunged across the garden, and tried to trip us up as we ran. -
One day poor Lilly got a sore leg. The vet gave her anti-inflammatories to help it. Unknown to everyone Lilly was actually born with bad kidneys, she had renal dysplasia, and the anti inflammatories reacted badly with her and meant that she couldn't undergo the surgery she needed due to the poorly kidneys. -
Renal Dysplasia if not identified can be very dangerous and in poor Lilly's case led to her having to be put out of her pain. Signs to look out for are coat imperfections, poor bladder control, and weight loss. Please keep an eye on your dogs and if you notice these symptoms make your vet aware as if they are given unsuitable medication things can go from bad to worse very quickly. -
Having a blood test could pick up on abnormal renal levels so it's worth having one done if your dog is showing these signs prior to being put on that type of medication.
The loss of a family pet is like the loss of a family member and I can only send all of my love to @melissaewartx and her family such a heartbreaking loss. 💔
Great news on this #throwbackthursday ! My numbers came back with fantastic results: creatinine 2, phosphorus 4.4, BUN 17. This picture was taken about the time when I was first diagnosed and I was told that my kidneys were shriveled up, incredibly small, and that I'd likely only live a maximum of one year. #ibelieveinmiracles#andhomecookeddiets
Do I really have to get my blood drawn? I'm at my usual three month check up, so I'll update you all with my results as soon as I get them back. #fingerscrossed for good numbers. Please send your love and positive vibes my way. We'll get the results a few days.
Hi! My name is Hank. I'm a happy, outgoing, spoiled rotten puppy living in Tacoma, WA. I was born June 19, 2016 and my mommy and daddy brought me home August 17, 2016. We have had a wonderful 3 months together! On November 29- our vet told us I have Renal Dysplasia. I am not sure exactly what that means, but my mom and dad haven't stopped crying since then. They told me that they are going to make sure I have the BEST LIFE possible, and they want to share my story with the world. So, please join us in following our journey and all the fun we're going to have together. #pitbull#tricolorpitbull#spreadtherumer#renaldysplasia#kidneydisease#puppiesofinstagram#pitbullsofinstagram
This adorable pup (how I still see Neddy😊), turned 2 yrs & 5 mths, 4 days ago. His strong little kidneys are keeping him going strong & keeping him healthy. Blessed each and everyday that he is here with us. He brings a smile to my face, makes me feel overwhelming unconditional love, and makes me belly laugh, and much much more, at least once a day. Here's to many many more months & years ahead😍🐶🐾 #neddymyblinddog#love#labsofinstagram#blinddogsofinstagram#renaldysplasia#survivor#adoptablinddog
Lily's First Birthday Celebration Part I! From Lily's Mom: flash back to 9 months ago when we thought we'd only have another month or so with Lily. That's when we started this bucket list. We never could've imagined that she'd be doing this well. We never could've imagined that we'd get to celebrate her birthday. We never could've imagined the incredible love and support she'd get from people here in Hawaii and across the world. Words can't express our love and gratitude. Lily is truly a special soul, and we'll continue to shower her with love and affection for as long as we are with her. P.S- this was just part one of her birthday celebration. Get ready for party photos! Bucket list item #37 checked off: celebrate my birthday. A special thank you to @hawaiidoggiebakery @princessruffus @concertjunky @dissertatingwithdogs @keripetphotography @aloha._.kyra
Finding something for Neddy to chew & clean them teefies on is hard because he can't have anything high in protein (only 11% or less in protein allowed). So carrots are a good alternative but he eats them super fast. So this came to me when I was putting toys in this toy I got from "Petbarn" (not Petcity), for him to get out & did it with the ball version of this toy. This one fits carrots perfectly, and now takes Neddy about 10mins to finish! 😁😆🐶🐾 #neddymyblinddog#dogtoyideas#labsofinstagram#renaldysplasia#blinddogsofinstagram#adoptablinddog#petbarn
Part one in a series of videos soon to be released titled, "I Can't Catch" by Lily Martin. Seriously, though, this was the moment I discovered that I truly cannot catch, in this case a tiny snowball. So, I'm determined to learn...in the safest way possible and with the best treats in the world. Bucket list item #35 added to the list: catch something in my mouth. Please note: no Lily was harmed in the making of these films. #icantcatch#bucketlist#lilystrong#slomo
Great news, IG Friends! This is me waiting for my turn at Dr. White's office where I got a blood and urine test and found out that my numbers are even better than last time- my creatinine dropped from 2.0 to 1.9! My calcium is back to almost normal and my phosphorus is almost normal as well. My parents are amazed and so incredibly happy. Your good vibes and prayers are working- keep um' coming and I'll keep up my adventures! #lilystrong#celebrate#bucketlist#lilyslist
Throwback to my spa treatment yesterday @threedogsandagirlgrooming. What started as a bucket list item becomes a regular visit to be pampered. I love Auntie Sachie because she always puts #swag in my hair and makes me feel #onfleek . #glamorous#overtheshouldergaze#model
