Hey it’s Merlion time!
Mer “Sea” 🌊 + Lion 🦁 = Merlion.
My lion head represents Singapore's original name—Singapura—meaning "lion city" or "kota singa". While my fish body symbolises Singapore’s origins as a fishing village and it is created to welcome all visitors to Singapore.
I was first used in Singapore as the logo for the tourism board, designed by My owner Alec Fraser-Bruner, from 26th of March 1964 to 1997 and in 20th of July 1966 I became the trademark symbol. 🇸🇬 You can find the largest me in Sentosa where you can enter my body but the tallest me is at Mount Faber. ⛰
Ladies and Gents, we are SO excited and honoured to announce our beautiful-adventurous friend @ashleyzadie will be opening our runway show at New Zealand Fashion Week 2018! For all of you attending our runway ~ get ready for a smokin' entrance. ⠀
