So it's nearly 8 am - I am fully prep'd for Oh Crap It's Christmas - the mindfulness workshop I'm doing in about 2 hours time at The Shelley Theatre.
So how do we handle our 'inner critical pigeon' - that sucker has usually got something negative or fear based to say. Sometimes he even replicates the abusive messages I heard as a child. Can you relate?
What to do .... what to do?
Well, nothing actually. We can acknowledge he's there - hello my inner 'skank ridden mangey matted sky-rat critical friend' (ok - bit passive aggressive - I'll start again'........) Hello my inner critical pigeon - I see you - I know you'e there. I know you're trying to protect me..... But your wrong .... at least partially wrong ..... it will be okay .... don't worry my little feathered fossil ..... I'm here.
In other words - we don't have to believe him.
The only failure - is not to. Not to try. Not to endeavour.
That's it - we prep up and do our absolute best. Think of others as well and how we can serve.
So no endeavour a failure - always more information and something to learn - at the very least.
Anyway - I'm off very soon and will try very hard not to shit my pants mid workshop.

A lot of personal development content focuses on things like productivity, health, wealth and happiness. Which is fine, except these goals can overshadow the most important question you should ask yourself:
What kind of person do I want to be?
Specifically, I noticed three ugly qualities that prevent people from becoming better versions of themselves:
Some people equate success with “having it all,” but this can become a slippery slope. The appetite for success devolves into greed. I met many millionaires who were unhappy, negative people. It surprised me, because it looked like they had it all. But deep down, they hadn’t done the work of figuring out what kind of person they wanted to be. But I’ve also met millionaires that are absolutely amazing- I follow them all!
It’s not surprising, in our culture of entertainment and celebrities, that a lot of people succumb to vanity. We all want to look good.
The problem is that some people spend enormous amounts of time, energy and money on their looks, at the expense of developing their character.
Becoming the best version of yourself requires more than sculpted muscles, building an ass and whitened teeth. It requires intellectual enrichment, empathy, sacrifice for others, and the most important quality of all: KINDNESS!
Perhaps more than greed and vanity, addictions account for the most grief in people’s lives.
The problem is that we like some things too much. We pursue them at all costs, and become addicted.
Before long, our lives fall out of balance. The addiction becomes a hole inside us that we can never fill. Surely, no one asks themselves what kind of person they want to be and answers, “an addict.” This goes for all things- you can be addicted to almost anything. There are so many addictions out there- Social media addiction. Food addiction. Addiction to drama. Even healthy pursuits like fitness can become a destructive addiction when taken too far.
No two people are exactly alike, and so the best versions of ourselves will vary. Mother Teresa’s best version is different than Nelson Mandela’s. The common thread is a sort of grace and undeniable KINDNESS!

Injuries are no joke and can be totally demoralizing! .
The past 4-5 weeks have been tough on my body and mind, not being able to workout at my usual capacity, being dependent on others to do heavy lifting, not sleeping well, and wondering how all of this would affect my goals.
I’ve hardly posted on SM...it’s hard to inspire others when you’re not feeling overly inspired yourself!
HOWEVER, after the first week of intense pain, when the pain started to ease bit by bit, I kept up my routine of going to the gym and being active, even if it was at a level 2 out of 10 on my intensity meter.
ADDITIONALLY, it was necessary for me to make adjustments to my diet. I’ve been on a plateau FOREVER, and with the guidance of some nutrition experts/professionals, I made some key changes and I’m feeling AWESOME! I think I’ve dropped about 5 lbs, but more importantly, a bunch of inches (I’ll be measuring later this week). My clothes are fitting better and I’ve killed my cravings for sweets! .
Wherever you are on your journey, don’t give up! Just be willing to change and modify as needed! Quitting on yourself is not an option!
If you take a few minutes, and maybe help yourself out with some journaling, you will always find the triggering thought for what you're feeling.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is your chance to choose new.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because neither are you a victim or a slave of your thoughts nor ARE you your thoughts.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your thoughts are just random things your mind pops out. Some are helpful, and some are not. It is your CHOICE that makes them real.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If a thought would show up that says “Grass is blue” – you wouldn’t believe it, would you?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you feel weird or off, you unconsciously choose to believe the doubt, the fear or the jealousy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t judge yourself though. It’s human. Most of us just wake up to the fact that we control our minds and not the other way around.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a process of becoming conscious of what is going on in your mind. To examine your thoughts and choose new is one part of it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“When an adult, pregnant woman or family experience a sleep challenge, one of the most common paths they take to solve the ‘problem’ is one of public inquisition, usually with the general questions being asked right from the start. 👊🏼 .
Quite often one may seek the support of online forums, books, doctors, friends or public groups where the root of sleep issues are not being addressed but rather general questions are asked and general answers are given by others based on the other’s experiences, limited training and particular paradigm, which rarely is holistic in nature. 🧐 .
Most questions asked do not come along with important details about their lifestyle or physical and emotional health history that need to be factored into account before receiving or giving even basic advice or suggestions. There are so many forces that affect sleep and in order to get the root of the challenge we must first investigate the strongest forces that affect sleep in order to first rule those ’causes’ out. 🤔 .
Anyone who is answering health/sleep questions while knowing little/nothing about the clients health and lifestyle history, is just throwing darts at best, hoping to knock out the main ‘problem’. Rarely is there just one main ‘problem’ or factor, and more often than not there are many forces acting upon a family preventing them from getting good sleep. 😴
Throughout my life, I have considered myself a skeptic. When faced with a challenge, before I assume and draw conclusions, I investigate, research, reflect, make connections, use logic, experience, experimentation, evaluation and then invite feeling and intuition to digest, integrate and guide me toward the most optimal solution. In this same fashion I teach my clients and professionals I train to do the same. 🙌🏼
