Rockhopper penguins really live up to their name on South Africa's subantarctic Marion Island! On their commute to and from the ocean they navigate treacherous lava rock with death-defying leaps. Shot on assignment for @natgeo magazine. To see more photographs and to help protect penguins and other seabirds on this remote island please follow @marionisland #penguin#jump#southafrica#seabirds
Two copies of the same book? Yep, that's me. I've bought so many books over the years that I often lose track of what I've got 🙈 For Victober I bought this beautiful edition of Silas Marner thinking that I didn't own a copy. Despite its beauty I found the lack of notes SO annoying and felt like I was missing lots of context and insight. After I'd finished it I put it on the shelf only to discover...an edition with notes!!! I mean this is a lesson that I needed to learn the hard way.
As for the book itself, I really enjoyed it! After finding the first half a pretty joyless read, I was completely relieved once the second part kicked in and Eliot started the lead character along the road to happiness. It's a novel about loss, betrayal, depression, and self-isolation. But it's also about love. It's about the beauty of childhood and the strength of the parental bond. A lovely little Eliot for Victober. ❤
[Picture is of my hand holding two copies of Silas Marner. One is a Penguin library edition and is a soft purple with little weaving tools all over the cover. The other is a black penguin classic of the same book. I'm holding these up against the backdrop of my bookshelves]
