Cook time 6 hours
6 hours 20 mins
This Crockpot Orange Chicken is simple, and tastes even better than takeout. With breaded chicken pieces covered in a phenomenal orange sauce and cooked to perfection in a slow cooker, it's a recipe the whole family loves!
1½ pounds boneless chicken, cut in 2-inch chunks
½ cup flour
½ cup panko
½ cup milk
1 TB olive oil
1 TB kosher salt
6 ounces (1/2 can) frozen orange juice concentrate(no pulp), thawed
3 TB brown sugar
1 tsp. balsamic vinegar
3 TB ketchup
Mix egg and milk in a small bowl.
In a separate bowl, mix your flour and panko. In 5-10 piece batches, soak chicken chunks in milk mixture then in flour mixture, Repeat this twice.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil on the stove and brown your chicken on all sides. You will not be fully cooking the chicken, just giving it a nice coat. Place the chicken pieces into your slow cooker
In a small mixing bowl, combine orange juice concentrate, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, salt, and ketchup. Add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter taste. Pour sauce evenly over the chicken, and carefully toss to coat.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, or on high for 3 to 4. Serve warm over the rice or noodles of your choice.

No Breading Orange Chicken!
Asian food is one of the hardest things for me about being gluten free. I usually have to make my own, and I don't always want to spend a whole evening to make it a more traditional way. Smiths/Kroger has a decent frozen orange chicken, but like all other great things you find at the grocery, they stopped carrying it. This recipe is a pretty easy replacement that's a good shortcut for a lunch or weeknight. .
Instead of breading the chicken, I used chicken thighs that are boneless, but skin ON. If you cook it right, the skin will get super crispy and give a good crunch. If your butcher isn't willing to do this for you, find a new butcher. The butchers at @HarmonsGrocery are always great.
To cook the chicken, I used an air fryer. It's one of the best things I've bought for eating gf. Since I eat more frozen and prepackaged foods, it's a great way to get things crispy and tastier super fast.
Generously season the chicken with salt and pepper. Next time I do this, I want to experiment with some marinades to really make it taste like orange chicken, but this is my easy version. Spray with a little olive oil (I use an oil mister). If using an air fryer, cook for 20 minutes at 400F. If using an oven, roast for 35-45 minutes at 400F. The key is to get a crispy skin at the same time the internal temp reaches 165F. You may need to experiment a bit with the oven to get it right.
Once the chicken has rested, cut it into cubes, and serve over rice with your favorite gf orange sauce. San J has a good one. I've posted one previously that would double as a good marinade (before thickening).
Healthy orange chicken say what🤩🤩🤤🤤🍊🍊 That delicious, but not “healthy” (let’s be honest it’s not even chicken) food court Chinese food doesn’t even compare to this!! RECIPE FOR THIS👉🏼👉🏼 olive oil, chicken breast diced, pepper 🌶, broccoli 🥦, zucchini🥒, onion, & I used a mix of cauliflower/ regular normal plain old rice 🍚🍚🍚!!! For the sauce 👉🏼👉🏼 2 oranges juiced, 1/4 cup of chicken stock, garlic, some orange zest 🍊, 3 tablespoons of coconut aminos, & 1/4 tsp of ginger!! Mix all the sauce ingredients together & cook the chicken and veggies. Add some of the sauce in before the chicken is done and save some to pour over top😋😋 & that’s all!! Hope everyone gets a chance to try this out it’s super yummy!!
