First Med Monday I’m posting!
Today’s drug is: LOVENOX!
Lovenox was the first injection I have given to someone else in one of my clinicals earlier this semester. For these Med Monday posts I am going to try and only post medications I have administered as well as those that are pertinent to where I am in nursing school curricula. So lets get into it!
Enoxaparin (ee-nox’a-par-in) is the generic for Lovenox, theis drug is an anticoagulant, anthithrombotic, low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH). The main use of enoxaparin/lovenox is a precautionary administration to prevent blood clots in patients who are post op/spending time in the hospital. Lovenox typically comes in a prefilled syringe in various doses and is administered via subcutaneous injection when utilized for blood clot precautions. Given it is a relatively short acting drug (half life – 4 ½ hours, with a peak of being 90% absorbed in 3-5 hrs) it is usually administered daily. Lovenox is contraindicated in patients with bleeding disorders or those prone to massive hemorrhage.
Lovenox is pretty cool!
According to the Migraine Research Foundation, a migraine is an extraordinarily prevalent neurological disease, affecting 39 million men, women and children in the U.S. and 1 billion worldwide.
Aimovig (FDA Approval: May 2018) is a once monthly self-injection for migraine prophylaxis in adults with a standard dose of 70 mg. It is available as an auto-injector and a pre-filled syringe.
It is a human monoclonal antibody that antagonizes calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) receptor – CGRPR. CGRP is synthesized in neurons and has been hypothesized to play an integral role in the pathophysiology of migraines by functioning as a vasodilator.
Prior to administration, Aimovig should be allowed to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes and should be inspected for any particles, discoloration, etc. It can then be administered subcutaneously (abdomen, thigh, upper arm). Side effects include local injection site reactions such as pain, redness, or swelling.

So if you didn’t get to see my story today I announced my weight loss 👋🏽 so background story is I gained around 50 pounds during my pregnancy.... wasn’t aloud to do any activity because of bleeding. Anyway.
I am now 29 pounds down altogether. I have around 20 or so pounds to go! I think I did the math wrong earlier 😅 but anyway I’m super freaking proud! 1 year postpartum has been such a CRAZY journey. But I for sure wouldn’t change it for the world 🥰
One of the most commonly used medications at end of life.
⬇️ an opioid used to manage moderate to severe pain.
At end of life it is used to manage pain and tachypnea.
🔹remember pain isn’t only physical like organ, muscle or bone pain which results from disease infiltration as in cancer. Pain also includes psychological and social distresses.
⚠️ Morphine will cause addiction in the dying.
⚠️ It will hasten death. When given in appropriate doses and intervals it is very safe to manage symptoms.
🔹 A line is inserted into an area with adequate subcutaneous tissue for the medication to be absorbed. I prefer the upper arm as it is easily accessed to administer medication. However it can also go into the upper chest or back, upper leg or abdomen.
👩🏫 Teach your family. Morphine is usually given every 1-4 hours. Let them know signs of pain may not be obvious. Moaning, grimacing or restlessness may mean your resident need another dose.
My biggest’s struggle this semester! 🤦🏻♀️
Now that we are reaching the end of the semester, I have been reflecting back on the last few months quite a bit. I noticed my biggest struggle this semester was being involved into clubs and extracurricular activities. I have been so worried about not doing well academically that I let this slide. ⌛️
Being actively involved is important for making connections, building your resume, and creating endless memories. My personal goal for next semester is definitely to get more involved again and work on time management.
For all of you in grad/ professional school, how do you balance all this?

Something that I have been diving into more is working on me from the inside out which includes personal delvoment. If you know me well enough you know I hate reading! Lol 😂 but I am slowly minding that realinship. 😉😋
I am currently reading to books. 100 days to brave and doing the a 90 day better you challenge. Todays personal delvoment included a weekly email get from the amazing Rachael Hollis. #last90days topic do we really need to care what others thing of us?
The old me... ok still a part of me says yes I do! Why cause I love to please others! I spent my child hood doing what ever it took just to be accepted. That all I ever wanted growing up for people to like me. So if it ment doing things to please them I did.😏 Even as a parent just starting on the jouney of being a mom I just wanted mom friends so I did what others liked. Just to have the enter action. Play groups ahh play groups! While they were a much needed out let at the time I learned that not all parent the same way I do. And you know what that ok! I learned thst people will judge your style and there really isn't a darn thing you can do about it. Every family is differnt, and if they are juggling you cause they dont agree on something. Then are they really ment to be your friends? 🤔 let's just I only have a select few that I am still friends with today from those play group days and I'm ok with that. :) Same with me sharing my health and fitness jouney with you all! When I started I was always thinking..... am I going to loose friends cause I talking about my weight loss, sharing my workouts etc. Probably and I did! Again thus took me a while to come to turns with! However knowing that I could maybe inspire just one person to start there's its worth it! This fill my heart with so much joy! 🤗💕 To this day I aim to please but not with please my self 1st. By doing this it makes me a stronger person, a better mom and wife.
Do you! Be proud of who YOU are!
The ones that were ment to be in your life will be. The peoples lifes you were ment to you will. 🤗💕
Classically, traumatic brain injury (TBI) is defined as any aggression of a traumatic order that causes anatomical and / or functional impairment of the skull, meninges, scalp, brain or vessels.
Traumatic injuries worldwide are the leading cause of death among people aged 5 to 44 years, accounting for 10% of all deaths. As it affects mainly young people, the damage to society in terms of productivity, premature death and disability are enormous.

School and work have officially taken over my life. Any of you that are in school know that the closer you get to the end of the semester, the more homework and tests there are to complete 😅
Papers, ATI, exams, portfolio, more papers, clinical, patient papers, journals... it just goes on and on. Never stops in nursing school. Over the past week it hit me hard how much I had to get done and I had to work all weekend, so I took a break from social media... again.
I am very passionate about coaching, but sometimes I have to step away for a few days. I hate stepping away BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t get my workouts in! I have still been working out and eating right so that’s at least a plus lol
IM BACK and I am ready to destroy the last two months of the year 💪🏽
S is for sober. I fell hard very young with partying... mainly alcohol. So at 23 I got sober. I had both my kids in sobriety and nursed each one for a year. I relapsed at 11 years sober and honestly being an alcoholic was the most embarrassing thing to me. I was ashamed - even while sober for 11 years. That Shame and embarrassment, misplaced or whatever—- almost destroyed me. Working with kids professionally I saw first hand the destruction alcohol and drugs does to kids, families and populations. I wanted nothing to do with it and I wanted my own kids as far away from it as possible. I was not raised around that. But when my youngest was 1 years old and I stopped nursing him, just graduated from grad school, launching a new career, throwing myself into my books, horrified that I was a single parent and hurt too.... I turned to baileys in my coffee. I put on 20 lbs FAST and I had just gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight! Soon it was 40 lbs . I stayed home and drank for fear of reliving my extremely wild youth which I didn’t want to expose the kids to. All I’m saying is this is part of my story. It took me 3 YEARS to find some sort of solid footing again and now I have over 6 months; just a baby. A serious little 👶🏻 baby. Of the last 15 years I’ve been sober for 11.5 of them. I learned that you gotta stay supported, strong (idk, yea but the healthy support will help keep you strong), and stick with strong people who have what you want. All types of people have kids and families in sobriety and live sober, raise their kids while sober . It is possible. It is possible to be happy and be an awesome parent and raise happy kids. So if you are a sober mama or parent mad respect to you and if you know someone who is I hope you give them a hug or something loving. Ok I hope this helps you because people who share their stories seriously have helped me. Thank you. Please share this if you think it will help someone. #happiness#thankyou#soberlife#sober#onestepatatime#onedayatatime#recovery#addiction#strong#strength#support#progress#progressnotperfection#positivevibes#nursing#breastfeeding#childbirth#mama#aa#mentalhealth#endthestigma#stigma
Kids are amazing (stains and all)!
When they are brought up to be in tune with their bodies, the choices they make are incredible.
The adults adrenal snack around here, and we share! However, we have never made it a hard and fast rule with little man.
It’s been amazing watching him grow and the requests he is making. 9 times out of 10 he is pairing glucose with mineral salts when requesting snacks. All by himself!
Tonight it was cucumbers with dulse, strawberries, and a honey straw. 🤣
It’s time to give away another copy of the books that have changed it all for us! #liverrescue
