I travel one fine piece of it, every day...and it’s different, every day.
Fog, no fog, or just a few puffs of fog here and there. Overcast, brilliantly sunny or sometimes just glowing slivers of sun peeking over the mountains and through the eucalyptus and redwoods. No hawks at all, or one on every perch along the way. And there are many perches, man made and otherwise. A lone coyote on the dunes, or five pelicans dipping and diving over those dunes. A Great blue heron majestically wading in the Pescadero Lagoon, or a splashing flock of ducks. A dozen surfers bobbing in the water at Big Basin, or just one surfer struggling into a wetsuit in the parking lot.
My morning commute.

They should’ve filmed the new Halloween movie at #prestoncastle ! It’s got a creepy Michel Meyers vibe! In 1890, the California State Legislature purchased 230 acres from the Ione Coal & Iron Company for construction of the Preston School of Industry, a place where troubled boys could learn a trade instead of being incarcerated in juvenile prisons. There's No Escape
A convicted burglar, Samuel Goins, arrived at Preston School in July 1918. Within his first year, Samuel attempted to escape Preston three times. On April 19, 1919, during his third attempt, a Preston guard named John Kelly shot Samuel in the back; at 20 years old, he died two months shy of his release date. Samuel is buried in the Preston cemetery, along with 16 other young men who died within the school walls -- most from diseases like Yellow Fever and Tuberculosis.
The murder of Samuel Goins was not the only fatal act of violence that occurred at the school. In 1950, Preston's head housekeeper, Anna Corbin, was beaten to death in the school's basement. A flimsy case was formed against Eugene Monroe, one of the few black children at the school. Tried twice, the jury was hung each time; Anna Corbin's killer was never found! https://www.travelchannel.com/shows/ghost-adventures/articles/preston-castles-haunted-history #ionecalifornia#hauntedtours#norcal#halloween#samhain#paranormal#spiritworld#halloween2018#michaelmyers
I am an Empath. And these are the things I’ve learned about myself over the years•••I’m sensitive to harsh lights and strong smells.
Crowded places or just too many people in the same room can bring on an emotional response. I can always tell how someone else feels, even if they tell me something else.
If I see someone in distress, pain or who is suffering, I will automatically feel bad along with them.
Myself and others consider me a highly sensitive person.
I am drawn to animals and nature. I may feel the need to be outdoors often in order to neutralize negative emotions I take on from others.
I tend to listen to a broad range of music genres. My music preferences are influenced by my varying emotional states. I can be deeply affected by the lyrics in a song.
Watching violence, cruelty or tragedy on the TV is unbearable. Empaths often get drained of energy, either from energy vampires or just taking on too much from others. ••• I didn’t accept this about myself till about three years ago. It took intense therapy three times a week and long term continuous sobriety before I figured this out. I changed my lifestyle in so many ways and it’s been for the better. Doing so has made daily life so much more peaceful, fulfilling and less draining. But some days I struggle a lot and often times I feel like I’m failing because I simply can’t pull together the same level of energy as most people to do the same amount of things in a day or “average” work week. It’s the worst when I have PMS. Think about it... take all of what I listed above and amplify X10. Right now I have PMS. Over the last year my PMS symptoms have gotten way more intense. I share this because I think it’s important that as a society if we really want to make statements such as “The Future is Female” we better make room for women and all their needs. I think it’s time for the world to develop more softness and care, not just for women but for us all. One of the biggest take aways from my favorite Geography class (that was my major) Gender, Environment & Development - is that over and over studies showed when you take care of Women first, EVERYTHING about the environment and society improved.
A weekend of back to back honeymooners! We still pinch ourselves that we get to be a part of so many special moments in the lives of strangers. The anniversaries, wedding nights, birthday getaways, and retreats for outdoor adventurers.... no matter the occasion, getting to sprinkle a little bit of “home away from home” magic makes my heart go pitter patter.
“For unless one is able to live fully in the present, the future is a hoax. There is no point whatever in making plans for a future which you will never be able to enjoy. When your plans mature, you will still be living for some other future beyond. You will never, never be able to sit back with full contentment and say, "Now, I've arrived!" Your entire
education has deprived you of this capacity because it was preparing you for the future, instead of showing you how to be alive now.”
