A little bit of Raby Castle in the sunshine last week.....how I have never visited here before I do not know as it’s literally a half hour drive away. What an amazing place!!! A stunning castle with amazing grounds!
😍😍😍🇧🇪🖤💛❤😃😃😃 #belgium#belgica#gante#gand#gent#gravensteen#castle#castillo#castles#medieval#europa#europe
Damascus Steel, Instant Coffee & Black Metal.
The summer season is coming to an end Last evening was spent blasting music and etching damascus with some of the remaining museum staff.
So in reply to @siriliksom , here is The Making of a Treasure - Part 5:
Sand the hardened and tempered blade to 320 grit and polish it a bit. Degrease with acetone. Dump a whole can of the cheapest instant coffee into plastic tube and add boiling water. Insert the blade. Stir occasionally. Pull out the etched blade after an hour, gently repolish with worn out 1200 grit sandpaper. Neutralize the acid with baking soda. Oil the blade. Take pictures.
Nearly 27 cm long, wrought iron back, 3 twist bars (11 layers, 1075 & 15n20), folded steel edge (110 layers, 1075, 1095 & 15n20). This is the biggest and most elaborate patternwelded blade I made so far. The fact that I prepared the bars and forgef everything by hand in front of the public makes it all the more labour intensive. I wonder what projects I come up with for next season.
Recent leather projects! I took a break from writing and did something a bit different.
~~~ Hip/side/mounted archery quiver - This has to be one of my favourite creations to date. It's a small and elegant quiver with my stories emblem set on it 🦌 It slides into your belt of choice and has an optional thigh strap for extra security. It's so much easier and faster to shoot when I'm drawing from my hip than my back and much easier to ride with!! 🏹🦌🏹
Small Chanfrons - I wanted something simpler for when I'm doing archery. I love both my half face and full face Chanfrons dearly but they aren't practical for everyday use. So I made a few of these! (First one on a horse is a commission) They are pretty simple to make and quite relaxing 💙 The noseband and headpiece in the first two photos of Epona are also made by me.
