MAMMOTH MINARETS - Mammoth Lakes, California
Just West of Mammoth Ski Resort and Mammoth Lakes sits the Minarets. Beautiful and jagged peaks that dominate the area. This photo was taken a long time ago with film and I digitally converted it.
Sometimes I pick the most complicated hikes for the same reason I pick the most complicated recipes to cook: I don't trust that the end will be worth it if it's too easy to do. For that reason, I almost didn't do this hike at all. It was only 4 miles out and back, and was the one no one seemed to want to do at its trailhead, which converged into a different trail that's much more popular, with many more lakes to see. Ruby lake was the only place I could get a last minute permit to camp though, and I'm glad it happened that way, because it ended up being an exception to my rule. It was both stunning and "easy" to get to. It is probably the only hike I'd do again and bring friends, family and my kids to one day. Pictures don't do it justice, because it's absolutely breathtaking in person. Sometimes finding beauty really is that simple. ✨ Happy #nationaltakeahikeday ✌🏻
