Naturally I worked and then passed out for a few hours so you get a post at almost midnight when you are already in bed. Better late than never. Besides you’ll be up at 2am and read this anyway. I love you for a million reasons. Those giant glasses, hair in one giant braid holding the dinosaur on your shoulder video taping everything we did. Wearing pajamas to story time at Lodi Elementary for Dr.Seuss’s birthday. When teachers told me I brought the best snack cakes for milk time- they were hostess coffee cakes not what most kids brought 😂 Staying home sick from school or just having a snow day watching The Walton’s, followed by Little House on The Prairie, followed by Dr. Quinn Medicine Women, turn the channel to soap net-watch Dynasty and Dallas- turn to CBS watch the young and the restless then The Bold and the Beautiful and lastly before having to pick up Justin or Karli watching General Hospital- all while washing dishes and folding clothes, and vacuuming in between, asking me what’s happening when she’s in the kitchen making tuna helper or Mrs. Grass soup. I hope one day I’m half the mom I had growing up, that I remember these little things I love, my future children will too. I hope you had a great birthday in Florida. #futurecountrymusicsinger#mrsleonardwouldhavediedhearingyousaythat#soapoperachild#lukeandlaura#butshelovesbunnyso
Nov 17, 1981: Luke married Laura on General Hospital, 37 years ago.
Over 30 million viewers tuned in to watch...I was one of them! Even at Herb Alpert’s Rise and the rape-she was smitten. #lukeandlaura#generalhospital @garyoutwest #repost
Thankful Day 16 – Flashback to quite a few years back, like 1981 era and THE wedding. The wedding of Luke Spencer and Laura Webber. And my on again/off again love affair with General Hospital began. I was really young for that wedding on 11/16/1981 and played sick so I could stay home from school to watch this wedidng and I was just swept away by the whole “love in the afternoon” era of the soap operas. I watched various soaps over the years but stayed the most loyal to GH. In 2003, I attended my first General Hospital Fan Club Weekend and it was a staple summer event for me for the next 10 years. I made some of the best friends ever during those 10 years. Some are still in my life and I treasure them so much. Others were only around for as long as a character/couple lasted on the show and then disappeared. Some I had to remove. But there was nothing like the comradery of being at this hotel in CA with all these fans and the actors and the insanity that ensued. (Sorry if you are not in any of the attached pictures…I could only find pictures from like 5 soap things where there were groups of people included.) #diaryofacrazysoapie#soapies#soapoperas#loveintheafternoon#lukeandlaura#generalhospital#gh#abc#daytimetv#fanclubweekend#ghfcw#sportsmenslodge#californiaadventures#flashbackfriday#fbf#friends#thankful30#thirtydaysofthankful#thankfulnovember
SWIPE 👉🏻 37 years ago today...
#LukeandLaura (s) November 16, 1981 wedding brought in 30 million viewers; it remains the highest rated #soapopera episode in American daytime television history. #ElizabethTaylor loved the show so much she asked to have a character created for her. She did a handful of episodes as #HelenaCassadine She showed (at the wedding) to curse them for killing her husband #MikkosCassadine who tried to freeze the world starting with Port Charles. 😁 The episode was shot @greystonemansionbh in #BeverlyHills
#PrincessDiana was a huge fan of the show and sent them both champagne. The couple was subsequently credited with having brought "legitimacy to daytime serials" by crossing boundaries and becoming celebrities in the mainstream media.
At one point the there were full episodes on YT from the time Laura and Luke met in #1977 (the year I was born) till they left #PortCharles in #1984 . Thankfully (before ABC took them down) I burned them all to DVD. I’m so happy I did as I will have them for all my life. I’m planning on a binging those episodes sometime today. I was 4 when this aired. However, I got to see all the glory’s of L and L in the #80s when soaps had huge budgets and actually pulled in so much revenue they financed the night time shows on #ABC Their legend was what made me curious about #GH so when I saw ( in #TVGuide ) they were returning in #1993 I tuned and was hooked and have watched 25 years. I hadn’t watched since January because they let Genie go. They gave Tony anything he wanted. She is just as important and had been (long before he arrived) on the show since she was 14. It’s so great to see #GenieFrancis back on the show with a great meaty storyline. They have 2 stories mapped out for her which will keep her at GH for the forseabble future. I’ve never witnessed anything like our campaign we mounted on Twitter to have The Queen of Port Charles returned to her throne. She’s earned it. And seeing her as the single last shot in the credits makes it all the more sweeter. Because #GenieisGH
One of the great things about doing this archive is learning new things. I didn’t know that General Hospital is the longest running Soap opera and has aired more than 14,000 episodes! This button is probably from the 80s, when the breakout couple Luke and Laura made this show a monster hit. This pin is probably not a licensed product. Its lack of copyright info and janky design points towards a bootleg. Maybe it’s the real deal, I don’t know. I think a lot about the origins of these buttons. How many of these exist? Where were they sold? Did someone want to advertise their love of the serialized day time drama and wear this particular button? Whatever it’s origins, it ended up in a box at a flea market in Connecticut where I bought it for a dime. I’m wasting my lunch break at work writing about it. As you read this, it has been hung with the rest of my collection, waiting for me to die so it can either be thrown away or go back out into the world to torment another soul.

@vanessamarcilmlovesk Happiest of Birthdays to you!! I have gushed on several posts before and you’ve been so lovely. The fact that you follow me is still surreal. THANK YOU for being authenticially you. You’ve always seemed incredibly real to me. From the time I came to “learn” about you through interviews as you started on #GH and I was a kiddo. As a 12 yr old you were teaching me life lessons through art and I’ll never forget it. Lessons and truths that saved my life through the Stone and Robin story. 🙌🏻✨
________________________________________I pray the universe blesses you with the best year of your life-SO FAR!! You’ve continued to inspire me long after I “met” you in 1993! Thank you to #LukeandLaura ♥️ for bringing me to #GeneralHospital
BLESSED BE! ✨✨
By special request: the eerie scenes leading up to Luke’s rape of Laura on #GeneralHospital in 1979. Due to the riveting performance of #TonyGeary , what was intended as a short term character quickly caused the writers to change course and make his obsession with Laura into a passion which she would later come to reciprocate. I would attribute the power of the anti-hero archetype finding his ‘soul’ through love, dating back in popular memory to #WutheringHeights , to be the reason why the audience was so captivated by this pairing. Nearly 40 years later, such a storyline would never be broadcast but it’s clear that, due to the complexity of the drama and the strength of the characterisation, it undoubtedly tapped into something... Sidenote: the last clip posted here is with the actors talking about the rape event. #VintageSoaps#TonyGeary#GenieFrancis#LukeAndLaura
We’ve embarked upon the Domestic Arrangements journey. The year is 1981. Reagan takes the White House, La Croix is invented, and everyone’s talking about Luke and Laura’s wedding. Also, Rusty Engelberg is caught fucking in the bathroom at 3 a.m. 😱💕 #normaklein
