🎉. I’m all about celebrating the ones we’ve lost and keeping their spiris and aura Alive. Thanks to @xoxo.sunshine.sav for making the best jacket! Great mix of Me
And joe with his old Cub Scout patches. 😘😘😍❤️
So incredibly sunburnt but my heart is full. Yesterday was incredible. Kayaking around parts of the Great Barrier Reef. Seeing sea turtles, snorkeling and hiking to the top of the island. It never ceases to amaze me the beauty of God's creation and all that the world has to offer whether or not we ever see it for our own eyes.
The pink cashmere sweater that goes with everything. Including my flight of sake. 🎀
While cashmere is still a renewable fiber that is eight times warmer than sheep's wool, yet significantly lighter, the ever growing global lust for beautiful and soft cashmere fabrics has increased the farming of goats up to an extent that some of what were once beautiful, unspoilt grasslands are now becoming deserts. That’s why it is important when we buy cashmere items to invest in ones of high quality, for a good cashmere sweater not only feels better with wear, it could also last your a lifetime if treated with love and care.
How to tell quality? By touching and feeling that it is soft and buttery, and that it bounces back when stretched slightly. Fiber length and diameter determines quality, ranging from 0.8 inch for cheap cashmere to up to 2.5 inches for the most luxurious. Finer cashmere (often around 14 microns in diameter) is what's going into luxury garments. Thicker, shorter (scratchy) hair will be made into less expensive garments and is often used as part of a blend.
Avoid blends. Price is at times a good indicator of quality, but not always. By cutting out the middle man and using “honest pricing”, some direct to consumer brands are able to charge less for high quality cashmere. Like this @granacom sweater I’m wearing. @naadam.co is also a great option.
Let’s talk gift giving 💁🏻♀️ I’m a big fan of meaningful gifts that are personally relevant but don’t cost the earth 💰 (I’m also an even bigger fan of gifting time, love and experiences but I do still purchase material gifts for my family where a tradition has been setup, but with a focus on practicality of the gift). In my circle, gifts are exchanged as a token for kids and adults birthdays, and often are a bit more substantial at Christmas 🎄 I recycle all the gift wrap from old presents, buy budget ribbon online, and love to put that little bit of thought into presentation for a special look ✨ This pictured gift is a paper origami kit for my niece sourced from my local bookshop for a stellar markdown of$3! I always go for high quality at a reduced price and know it will be something she enjoys making. Frugality is a word that culturally gets a horrendous rap but as I see it, we all have a finite income, and therefore seeking ways to reduce outgoing costs to enable saving for the important things in life is vital 💪🏼⚡️ How do you gift on a budget?
Y'all. The purge is happening over here. 💥💥💥
Two humans and two large dogs living in a 30' camper for 14 months will make you come to grips with what is necessary and what is fluff. So coming back to a 2,000 sq. ft. home makes a lot of our stuff feel wasteful and redundant. Enter the purge of all things - only heirlooms are safe.
While going through all our things, I realized we have a lot of beautiful things we NEVER use. Why? Because we cannot see it through all the things crowding our view. I craved quantity over quality, trendy over my style and it lead to fleeting gratification and a confusion over my actual style, my voice, what makes me unique. 💥💥💥
Being an environmentalist by trade, this should be second nature to me but it's not. I am recommitting myself - more substance, less fluff; purchasing quality vintage home goods; more thought to the process; letting go of what does not serve me and mine. ❤ What can you let go of/donate/give away?
