The tasting menu at Tang Court Langham in Hong Kong. Our waitress was friendly and chatted with us in Cantonese towards the end of our meal. She initially thought we were Singaporean because we spoke fluent Cantonese and was surprised to learn that we were from Canada. Throughout the evening, I remarked to my husband that the flavour of the dishes reminded me very much of the wedding banquet dishes that I ate at family and family friend wedding celebrations -- that back home many Cantonese restaurants did away with the tea bowl infused with lemon slices and use hand wipes for hand cleaning after eating lobster. The staff then came out with the lemon infused tea bowls and placed them on our table alongside our lobster dishes. I was touched. . .
As we chatted, our waitress asked us how the food tasted. I told her the same thing I told my husband -- that the dishes blew all of Vancouver's finest Cantonese restaurants out of the water. She was pleased with our response and happily told us that the reason why we like the dishes at the Tang Court is because their dishes are very traditional and orthodox -- that they have the traditional Canton (Guangdong) taste. She went on to tell us that many Cantonese chefs today do not prepare the dishes in the traditional manner using traditional ingredients like they did back when we were growing up. She further remarked that this is why we both like the Tang Court at Langham and that not everyone appreciates their dishes. I have to say that they live up to their three-star Michelin quality and more. #latergram#finedining
By the way, I don't eat beef so I just ate the vegetables and let my husband eat all of the beef.
Sampled the Tang Court's signature tasting menu. The Tang Court at Langham serves Tang Dynasty style imperial cuisine and is one of five Cantonese restaurants in the world to receive a three-star Michelin rating. . .
Vancouver is often touted as the most Asian city outside of Asia with the best Chinese food in North America because many top professionally trained chefs immigrated to Vancouver in the 1980s and 1990s where they opened their own restaurants. As a result, Vancouverites have become very discerning and particular about their Chinese food. . .
However, when we sampled their tasting menu tonight, we were blown out of the water because the menu items were better than all of the finest Cantonese restaurants in the Greater Vancouver area. We thought we had it pretty good in all of North America, but this definitely takes the cake and was worth every penny. .
Vancouver may have the best Chinese food in North America, but the Cantonese food here is among the best in the world and they definitely live up to their name. Definitely worth trying once when you're in HK. The ambiance and decor is also very romantic and very date-worthy with top notch service. #latergram
