6th movie for my 12 movies fro christmas 2018 and its Stanley Kubricks EYES WIDE SHUT..... Now this isnt going to be just a review..this. Is also going to be a confession as well.. Have you guys ever watched a movie and felt it was telling you something directly..well thats what this movie did to me.
On its surface this film is known as the "Illuminati masked orgy" film but to me this film is a marriage drama with a strong message about the dangers of infidelity.
You see this film is about an ashamed wife (Nicole Kidman) and a worried husband (Tom Cruise) who over thinks things and lets that over thinking threaten everything dear to him (hits close to home)
Also he almost cheats on his wife several times throughout the film but always doesnt due to his consciousness or an external factor. And i loved how everytime he doesnt cheat we see what terrible thing that could have happened to him if he did.
Which gives the film a strong anti-infidelity message.
By the end of this film with the wife character telling the husband "we should be happy and do something important..we need to fuck" i felt.. Okay...confession time... Like the main character in this film. I tend to overthink things in my marriage to the point it causes me torment (just ask my wife @tayde_killjoy ) so that ending with nicole kidman telling that line to Tom cruise...i felt it was Stanley Kubrick telling me directly STOP WORRYING AND BE HAPPY IN YOUR MARRIAGE. And believe me guys i took that to heart.
This film is a fucking brilliant marriage drama first and an erotic thriller second.
Not to mention like many Stanley Kubrick films theres soooooo many layers to everything in the film it all feels like your going down a rabbit hole...thats how much of a genius Kubrick was.
Top 10 movies
#6 . A Clockwork Orange (1971)
“Oh I was cured alright...”
Carrying on with my top ten favorite movies, we have approached what is possibly one of the most mad films ever made: A Clockwork Orange. Stanley Kubrick is a fantastic Director, and he truly shines here as a director and a writer (adapting the acclaimed novel by Anthony Burgess). The color spectrum and horror of his directing is truly something to marvel at even today. When people say, “They just don’t make them like they use to”, this comes to mind. It’s a unique film, thanks not only to the visual artist Kubrick, but the cinematography as well. For something that came out in the early 70s, the cinema is beautiful. I also thought the story was thoroughly surprising and unpredictable. It’s mean spirited, but it sure is entertaining and fun to watch unfold after the first act. Malcom McDowell is just magnificent in this too. He’s a true droog, and an absolute maniac. I can’t imagine anybody else bringing this character to life like he did. The supporting characters also pack quite the punch too. With all of this being said, you should be warned… This movie is NOT for everybody. It’s strange, mad, relentless, risque, and straight up bonkers. If you couldn’t get through films like Bronson or mother! or Black Swan, this wont be any easier to sit through. However, it is remarkably well made and ahead of its time, and for that, I’m giving it a 9.5/10 and the #6 spot on my list.
Faked Moon Landing⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On a podcast called, "Winging It", NBA Superstar Stephen Curry said he did not believe the US had landed on the Moon. The podcast discussed some of the popular theories including one that Stanley Kubrick (film director) had staged the event. (NYTIMES)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A NASA spokesman invited Curry to the Johnson Space Center in Houston to see first hand the artifacts NASA has from the lunar trips.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kidman participated in a shoot without Cruise, which captured sex scenes (50 different positions)
To make Cruise even more furious, Kubrick forbade Kidman to discuss the shoot with him
