“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” — Jawaharlal Nehru
Every time I hike up to this lake and look out onto the sea of majestic mountains that surround it, my appreciation for our relatively limited time on this earth is reaffirmed. I always head back down the mountain remembering the fact that we’re just visitors here on this beautiful planet, and that the only requirement to enjoy it is to open our eyes and mind and chase after what makes us happy.
Sometimes I find it hard to believe that I grew up minutes from these places and that it took a northern boy with an insatiable sense of curiosity and adventure to show me the beauty and wonder that’s out there. I’m incredibly lucky to call this place home (even if it’s not currently) and even luckier to continue exploring it with him.
Does anyone else get frowny when other hikers say “You’re almost there!” or “Wow, you made it!” or ask, “Do you know where you’re going?” 🤔 I tell myself it’s coming from a good place, but it does make me come home and research remote adventures! I go to the mountains for peace and simplicity, so give me crowds of squirrels and butterflies over crowds on summits any day. 🐿 🦋
