Kansas brewery #11 .
Stopped into Third Place Brewing for one last KS flight before heading home. We found a warm, welcoming pub and, more importantly, two brews that Corey actually liked!
I tried German Spectacle (Weizenbock - and yes, a Blazing Saddles reference), Red Truck IPA, Red Headed Stranger (Irish Red) and Black Toro Milk Stout of which the Weizenbock and Stout were my favorites.
As a consumer of Miller Lite, Corey went for Spring Board (American Light Ale). That must have opened up his palate because he then enjoyed the Irish Red. Gotta start somewhere!
One of my favorite taprooms in Wichita! Nice work @thirdplacebrewing! Everybody should have a Third Place!

Took a short road trip after dinner to Cheney KS for a flight at this little brewery and found a wonderful family run bar with some great owners.
Hank and Jane Wiser, both retired, have been making beer here for 14 years, a portion of that with their son Steve. They are only open Friday and Saturday evenings and also serve "the best ribs in Kansas". I happened to roll into the mostly empty brewery on Saturday night to find out that they were so busy the night before they were out of all their brews except for Cherry Poppin' Pale Ale.
No problem, I'll take two! Very good beer, with just enough fruitiness to be interesting but not overwhelming.
Can't say enough about Hank & Jane! Jane reminded me of my mom, kind and quick to laugh. Hank, a man who used to plan his work trips around the breweries he intended to visit. Hank really is Wiser!
Love this place! I just gotta get back there to try the ribs...and any beer they might have left!

Landed at Aero Plains Brewing for a flight and found a lively brewery with plenty of outdoor space and plenty of beer options inside. I love the theming of this place! I mean who doesn't love planes? Is it even possible to stop here without ordering a flight? Almost seems like it would be mandatory. And imagine my surprise when the flight shows up on a little plane! I haven't even tasted a beer and already I like this place!
Fortunately the brews did not disappoint. I tried Piloto Loco (Mexican-style Vienna Lager), Dove Runner Red Wheat, Pretty Penny Pale Ale, Aero Plains Pale Ale, Aero Vice Tart Ale (Raspberry Sour) and Tarmac Oatmeal Stout. The Dove Runner Pale and the stout were excellent but I enjoyed them all so much I made a fly by at the liquor store on the way home and picked up a sixer of their IPA!
A fun, enjoyable place to have a great beer! Nice job @apbrewict!
Kansas brewery #8 .
Stopped at River City Brewing for a flight and was immediately impressed with the size of the place and more impressed with the size of the flight and most impressed with the quality of the beer!
I tried Green Flamingo (Gose brewed with raspberries and Hatch green chiles, fruity with the perfect heat, outstanding!), Dim Wit (Belgian Wit), Rock Island Red (Amber Ale), Harvester Wheat (light American wheat), Pineapple Eclipse (dark hazy IPA), Groover Gose (blueberry and peach Gose), Old Town Brown (Brown Ale), Sunny Stout (deceptively different is right! Great Stout flavor with the look of a pale ale, amazing beer!).
Loved this place with upstairs wrap-around deck, loved the beer, and I also had some chicken fingers that were excellent as well!
Great job @rcbcwichita!
My dad and I went to draw today in Mulvane. We pushed past the overgrown grass where the street ended, four dogs barking behind a chain link fence. A train was standing still a quarter mile away, so we crossed over the tracks and passed under the railroad bridge. We stood there over an hour. Me drawing, dad reading a book. Sun casting deep shadows under the plate girders and wood piers. Train idling in the distance, hawk circling silently overhead. We were about to leave when we heard a low rumble. We waited to watch another train cross the tracks above our heads, going south or maybe west, matching the path of the afternoon sun. #DrawKS#urbansketchers#Kansas#NoPlaceLikeKS#KSBucketList#Mulvane#bridgehunter#sketchwalker#sketch_onn#globalsketchers#archilovers#inkdrawing#inktober
What a perfect day we had, checking something off the #KSBucketList by visiting the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Definitely something to see in our beautiful state! We were lucky to be so close to the bison that live on the preserve. I love going on these day trips with my best friend. 🖤💏#Kansas#natlpreserve#exploreyourstate @wherescalvin1
In the southern hills of Kansas, a treasure of that state waits to be discovered. The Safari Zoological Park is located just east of Caney. If you're looking for an up close and personal encounter with wild things, this is ideal. Each ticket gives you a 2-2 1/2 hour tour throughout the zoo. Amenities include wheelchair accessibility, wagons for small children and restrooms. For an additional fee, an area with a pool, tree house and picnic area can be used. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and welcomes questions!

If kayaking or canoeing sounds nice, you might try the Kansas River. There are several access points all along it with varying lengths of trips depending on your choice of entrance and exit. kansasriver.org is a very helpful website. It even gives imformation on where to rent watercraft. My experience: Currently the water level is low with the approximate average depth between Lecompton and Lawrence at 2-3 feet. Dodging the shallows becomes second nature and the lush green vegetation is a vacation for the eyes. The wind was against us and we were not exuberant paddlers so instead of three hours, it took us around 6. Over all, it was lovely.
