#synagogue at the #addisababa airport was a pleasant surprise in #Ethiopia . #jews have been persecuted here for centuries but as it appears that the relations are warming with the new and hopeful president in the country. #jewish
#Windhoek#synagogue which is being converted into a museum as the forty #jewish families in #namibia Can not upkeep the synagogue in spite of the fact that multiple mayors of the country were #jewish as well as many wealthy diamond miners.

#jewish#Namibia Zvi is the caretaker of the 40 or so families which live in Windhoek. Most have left for Israel or South Africa since independence in 1992. Some Israelis come through for the diamond trade. The #synagogue is being converted to a #jewish museum. I didn’t get to go inside but I did meet a few people, including a professor who is a convert from the #Herero tribe. Hereros were nearly wiped out by Germans before world war 1 in the first #genocide of 20th century. History repeated when no one spoke up.
It's double honoring today! We're going to paint outside the lines a little bit today. Typically we honor other #badcatholicdads on Friday but we wanted to give a special shout out to @the.basic.catholic.
A converted seminarian who is sharing his journey with a little touch of fun through his IG account. Please check out his page and remember him and all of his brother seminarians in your prayers.
This is also a great time to encourage regular prayer for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and an increase in strength in our priests to fight the temptations that plague them. And, a reminder that you never know where God's plan for your life will take you no matter where you story begins.
Thank you for all that you do and share @the.basic.catholic, through #BCDBrotherhood is praying for you!
Regrann from @the.basic.catholic - “I was born Jewish and so I remain, even if that is unacceptable for many. For me, the vocation of Israel is bringing light to the goyim. That is my hope and I believe that Christianity is the means for achieving it.” // Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger // Cardinal Lustiger converted to the Catholic Church and ended up becoming the Cardinal Archbishop of Paris // I converted to the Church in 2003, but I couldn’t be prouder of my Jewish heritage and I am certain that it has made me a better Catholic. // ✝️✡️🇻🇦🇮🇱
In 1944 Winston Churchill sent a message to Franklin Roosevelt suggesting jews should be able to fight against the German Reich, the reason for this was that the atrocities of the holocaust had just became public, this lead to the formation of the 'Jewish Brigade' which was composed of 1st Battalion, Palestine Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Palestine Regimen, 3rd Battalion, Palestine Regiment and the 200th Field Regiment (Royal Artillery). This brigade was under control of the British and was part of the British Eighth Army they were a part of what is known as the spring offence in early 1945. After the end of WW2 they became part of hitsquads which tracked down notable Nazis and executed them, they generally got their information from torturing captured Nazi soldiers the possible amount of Nazi officials has been thought to be around 1,500. The brigade was fully disbanded in 1946.
The picture above is Joseph Wald a brigade soldier inscripted on the shell is Hebrew for "A gift to Hitler."

how does one sum up an experience at a place where thousands of people were murdered? I’ve been to #Buchenwald , #Riga , #Jasenovac , and #Kruscica , and there really are no words for any of them, but that doesn’t stop the feeling within me that I need to visit these places. when I decided to come to #Czechia , I knew I had to stop in #Terezín , the namesake of the declaration that was the foundation of my #Holocaust restitution work for years. it’s the site of the story of #DefiantRequiem , one of the most incredible concert performances I’ve ever witnessed. its a unique place in the history of Holocaust in that people were not sent here specifically to be killed (more than 30,000 still died), but it was a pass through to places like #Mauthausen and #Auschwitz . it also housed people of significant reputation in the arts who were used by the Nazis for propaganda purposes. they used this place as a “model Jewish settlement” away from the war to convince the International Red Cross that they were treating the Jews just fine. somehow, the Red Cross believed them. really, no words. but well worth my time. #czechia#czech#czechrepublic#terezin#europe#europa#jewish#jew#history#neverforget#neveragain#concentrationcamp
