I know I should be satisfied and proud of this performance, but I can't shake the feeling of disappointment. I finished 4th in my age group and 22nd overall. I should be happy but I'm not. My time was 74 seconds slower than the PR I set just six months ago. I feel very out of shape. I have an unhealthy relationship with food, and the weight I've gained is really affecting my running more than I would like. I really need to start eating better. Maybe eating entire pizzas in one sitting isn't actually a sustainable lifestyle
I had been going back and forth for a few weeks about signing up for this race because of how close it was. I am not in any shape to race a half but I kinda just wanted to get out there and run. When I was so kindly offered a bib yesterday, I certainly could not pass it up! As expected, it was very windy and cold (the whole race was along the shoreline/some by the beach) but the course was beautiful. I'm happy that I got out there and enjoyed the run this morning! A big thank you to @jbsportsevents for allowing me to participate for @soundrunnerct! I would recommend this event to anyone in the area for sure.
💥 RUNNER Explosive Glute Exercise💥
🍷 On this #WorkoutWednesday it is #raceweek as I prepare for the first ever vineyard half marathon by @jbsports @chamardvineyards this Sunday in Clinton
🏃🏻♂️ Glute activation is essential for running to provide proper propulsion forward to decrease the stress to the knee and ankle soft tissue structures. Research supports this for treatment and prevention of common running injuries such as patellar and achilles tendinopathy
💤 Glute inactivation can come from either muscle weakness or poor running form
❗️Here is how to use your glutes with every step you take during your running:
🔹 Head looking straight forward
🔹 Shoulders back
🔹 Slight bend at the hips and NOT the trunk
🔹 Drive through the hips activating the glute to propel yourself forward
🐆 Give this explosive lunge exercise a try to focus on what we call triple extension (at the ankle, knee, and hip joints). Really push down into your heel and then drive through activating that glute

🍂 With the cooler temperatures and changing colors, running is a great activity to do in the fall. Personally, it is my favorite season to run road races. Looking forward to the vineyard half marathon by @jbsports @chamardvineyards
🤷🏻♂️ How can you meet your running goals whether it is to run 1 mile or 26.2?
💪🏼 TRAIN to RUN.....Don’t RUN to train
🙅🏻♂️ This is a key distinction because RUNNING in some communities gets a bad rap...Running DOES NOT cause arthritis (look at the literature). Running can lead to musculoskeletal pain if you do not TRAIN correctly and prep the body for the loads it will incur with running
🤨 Here are my 5 tips to help you meet your fall running goals:
1️⃣ Activate and strengthen your “running muscles” (not in any particular order) Calves, Glutes, hip abductors, hip external rotators, and quads
2️⃣ Perform your strengthening exercises in functional positions with your foot on the ground (like it is with running). Limit the usage of the quad extension, hamstring curls, seated hip inner and outer thigh machines…They will not translate into those muscles working when you run
3️⃣ Train plyometrically because your muscles work in this fashion when you run
4️⃣ Soft tissue care with foam roller, 🎾 or lacrosse ball before and after runs. Perform dynamic stretching/ movement prep before your runs. Static stretching (hold for 30 sec) only after your runs to restore the muscles back to resting length (NEVER before running)
5️⃣ Progression is 🔑 when it comes to building mileage as well as speed. You should never be increasing # of miles in a week at the same time as increasing your pace or adding in speedwork
