Overtraining? Myth or Not? 🤔 For me growing up with an interest in fitness I looked up to people like @c.t.ali.fletcher who talked about over training being a myth but university lectures rolled in and a whole module on overtraining and the physiological and psychological effects happened... so what’s the facts?! 🤷‍♂️🤔🔬

Firstly, overtraining defiantly can occur! 100% backed by science and it can really fuck you up! Most people who want to lose weight think they need to train more and this leads to over training! As I mentioned in a previous post: how many time do you work out a week? How many times do you eat and sleep? So what should the focus be on? Simple in my eyes #recoverywins 
Secondly, overtraining and over reaching are two completely different things! If one day a week in a month you train like a beast and over train it’s not gonna kill you! However, if you do that over a prolonged period of time you will not feel the benefits! Overreaching by definition is ‘optimal physiological performance and performance’ and that is what needs to be aimed for! Need any help doing that? Hit me up! 
Thirdly, my own personal take is that many people believe they are overtrained when in fact they don’t do enough recovery (sleep and eat well). However,  not everyone has the time to sleep a full 8 hours and sit on a foam roller for hours per day! So if you can’t back up the training with the recovery don’t do all of the training! Reduce the load until you can progress correctly! 
Lastly, I will be doing a whole post on recovery methods debunking the myth of ice baths  and all the other ‘science based’ recovery methods along with some monitoring methods you can use on athletes! 🤙🏼

Time under tension (TUT) is a way of calculating the total amount of work you place on a muscle. It refers to the total time a muscle resists weight during each set. For example, if you did the barbell curl and it took you two seconds to curl the weight up and another two seconds to lower it, that’s four seconds of tension per rep. Performing 10 reps at this pace would take a total of 40 seconds. Therefore, the TUT for that set is 40 seconds. If you increased the speed of those reps to about three seconds, then it would take you only 30 seconds to complete a 10-rep set. Although the number of reps and the amount of weight are the same, the second set might not increase your muscle mass to the same level as the first. And that’s the basis of TUT training: Focus on sets that last for a certain amount of time based on your training goals. Very often I get asked what type of exercise I like the best and I gotta say is BOXING. It works your whole body. I have a boxing trainer that comes to my house and he is incredible and makes my classes super fun, @jamesmathie. Very often I get asked what type of exercise I like the best and I gotta say is BOXING. It works your whole body. I have a boxing trainer that comes to my house and he is incredible and makes my classes super fun, @jamesmathie. I love eating like this, to me there is no reason to get fat in the so called "off season". As my fellow ifbb pro bother @sethferoce would say "get a little chubby" but not fat. Not exactly what I was hoping for upon finishing my powerlifting program. Lost focus when my elbow started to act up and just wasn’t all there in my training sessions. Not going to make excuses because honestly, a PR is a PR.  This only fuels me for what is to follow. Appreciate everyone that is along for the ride ✊🏼
