Dear art lovers,
the Talking Art panel discussion by the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi last week was a complete success! More than 110 visitors were very impressed!
We congratulate all those involved, especially Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen, who had a very exciting conversation with the curator of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Valerie Hillings and the artist from the UAE Mohammed Kazem after the introduction by Senior Project Manager Maisa Al Qassimi.
Here are some impressions of this wonderful evening ... #guggenheimabudhabi#mohammedkazem#picsoftheday#abudhabi#arttalk#talkingartseries
Valerie Hillings talking to Mohammed Kazem about his work "Directions" and his encounter with the work of the German artist group Group ZERO, which resulted from the work with curator Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen. Very interesting insights into important shows and collaborations that defined art history in the region - we want more of these talks :). #guggenheimabudhabi @manaratalsaadiyat #talk#uaeartist#uaearthistory @mohammedkazem.1 @vhillings #inabudhabj

During their visit to Berlin, the UAE delegation around Minister of Infrastructure Development, HE Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, took the opportunity of seeing some of the iconinc landmarks around Pariser Platz. The most well-known one, the Brandenburg Gate, with the emblematic Quadriga on top, built in 1791, is the last remaining one of formerly 18 Berlin city gates. Afterwards, the group went inside the building of DZ bank, an office, conference, and residential complex designed by Frank Gehry - the same architect who designed the planned Guggenheim museum Abu Dhabi.

“Even when I am making an abstract work, there is a strong narrative in it. The brush marks make it more like writing a diary...it has strong associations with calligraphy.”—#GuggenheimAbuDhabi collection artist Imran Qureshi (@imranqureshiartist) describes his artistic process, and the narrative element to his abstract work, “The Garden Within” (2014). Qureshi describes the image as a dialogue between two trees, each emerging from a corner of the canvas to embrace each other in a dynamic at once romantic and violent. For the viewer, the central point of engagement is the nexus where the trees converge in a large, blood-red spatter. @octobergallery, London, announces its forthcoming exhibition of new works by Rachid Koraïchi. Following Ecstatic Flow held at October Gallery in 2010, this will be the artist’s second solo show with the gallery.
In his new series of work, entitled Les osties bleues - a reference to Sacramental bread - the artist explores our connections to the earth as a source of life. The works are blue and white canvases and wall mounted square ceramics (created by Rachid with specialised atelier in Barcelona.) Koraïchi continues to use a limited palette emphasizing the graphic power of his inscriptions. 🌟 Our recommendation: A must-see exhibition if you're in London this summer. Koraichi is a monument in Contemporary Arab Art, arguably the most famous artist coming out of Algeria today. His beautiful sculptures and drawings can be seen at the British Museum and have been acquired by the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi's committee - but it is in a intimate gallery show setting, such as this one will provide, that his work truly comes alive.

#LouvreAbuDhabi day: described as the museum city floating in the sea, it is built on a 97,000 square metre site on #SaadiyatIsland , a low-lying island 500 metres off the coast of #AbuDhabi .
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is one of three museums on the island. The other two set to be built are the #ZayedNationalMuseum and #GuggenheimAbuDhabi . An underground service tunnel will connect all 3 museums will be over 1km in length and will provide residents/ tourists alike an easy route to visit all three attractions. The museum hopes to emphasize the conservation and heritage of the cultural traditions of the emirate dating back 7,000 years ago.

I contributed in this graphic novel by drawing popular pantings from the Guggenheim collection. The book tells the story of Peggy Guggenheim and how she was able to protect some of the most popular modern art during WWII.
