Shopping in bulk gives me life!! My husband was skeptical of it at first because he thought it was way more expensive. Turns out it's really not any more pricey - and we waste less because we are able to buy only exactly what we need. We bring our own bags - so this is a low-waste dream come true! #bulkfoods#zerowaste#lowwaste#plasticfree

You wrote to us and we listened. Here at Summerhill we take our customer’s feedback quite seriously, so we’ve made a few changes to our prepared foods packaging this summer. To make our efforts a little greener we are in the process of removing as much black plastic packaging as possible. Newest to the lineup are our white plastic BBQ chicken containers! Stay tuned as we continue research into compostable straws, paper bags at the cash and more. Getting prepared food to-go never felt so good!
A few days ago we got ice cream and they gave us a little plastic spoon before I could refuse. Today we brought our own metal spoon!! Also, always get ice cream in a cone because it’s “good for the environment” 😉
Just look at him 😍 Now that the cat got your attention, let‘s talk about #zerowaste 😁 See this iced coffee? Okay, beneath all this whipped cream and vanilla ice cream it is really hard to imagine, but I promise it is there! 🤣 This one was made by my grandma, served with #nostraw and #nodisposables 💚 She even skipped the paper napkin because I refused it in the restaurant today at lunch! (She is amazing and told me without me asking.) In most restaurants, they add all kinds of disposables and I never really saw the point in it. Now, that I actively refuse single-use items, I am just grateful every time I don‘t have to say anything. Encourage your family, friends and the people at locations you visit. Be a gentle #ecowarrior - not a tyrant. Appreciate the things they do for you and tell them! Don’t judge and shame them if they are not doing all the things you’re doing now. Remember when you started? Exactly. 😉
Today is your last day of summer, and tomorrow you start a whole new adventure...one without Mommy and Daddy. Be still my heart. •
Why is it that I feel more nervous, more tested on the jobs we have done as parents leading up to this point than how she’ll adjust, whether she’ll miss us, or if she’ll make new friends? Parenthood is always there to play tricks on us, but there comes a time, like this one, when we just have to let GO and let GOD!💕
NYR DAY 227: My new year’s resolution was to go zerowaste by the end of this year and not to buy clothes for a whole year.
Normally, before the summer vacation, I would buy a lot of new things because I would like it to be perfect. But this year not. I want to turn my life around and focus on important things in life. ♥️
So here is 5 Things I didn’t buy for the holidays, which I normally would.
1. Summer clothes, sun dresses. Like during the whole year this is a no-go. And guess what? Clothes from last year were just as good as new ones. I also tailored some to finally fit my body and not to a Barbie doll. So eventually I even had some ”new” ones.
2. New sunblock. I just used the ones I had from last year. Also, in the beginning of summer I took part of a diy cosmetic workshop, where we mixed our own natural sunblock. So much better for the environment and for my health!!!
3. Inflatable pool gadgets. Ok, I realize this is not a problem for most of you.... But I am a sucker for these things. They are fun, colorful, shiny, picturesque and by that I mean --> ”Instagrammabale” For me these things are the eternal symbol of holidays and summer. So this year I didn't buy any. And I was secretly wishing that the hotel would have some. And they did a huge stash!! 🤗 All the guests could share them and at the end of the vacay you don't have to hoard on them and store them at home. 👌🏻
4. New swimwear. TBH, I tried to buy a swimming suit. And you guessed right, I was trying to hide my insecurities with it. I ordered one, it didn't fit so had to return it and I didn't have enough time to find an ethical and sustainable one. But my wallet thanked for it and my NYR too.
5. New sunglasses. Two and a half years ago I decided to get rid of my fun colorful stash of 10-15 cheap sunglasses and buy a quality one which actually fits my face. The old ones I've sold on the flea market. This one already getting scratches so I might get the glass changed in it. ♥️👌🏻

Did you know that most of your cleaning supplies are made from toxic chemicals that are harmful to you AND the environment? Even the bleach free ones! Sometimes buying organic can feel overwhelming, but brands like @mrsmeyerscleanday and @methodhome can be found in @target and @krogerco's all around the country! @sprouts also has whole sections with these brands and others like @seventhgeneration. Not only are they organic, but the are super efficient, and smell WAY better than your normal cleaner!! #planetorplastic#zerowaste#goinggreen#plasticsucks#ecoblog
I'm super lazy. Anyone else? 🙋🏼While my husband and I enjoy opening our home to host get together and parties, I HATE doing dishes. However, we recently discovered that we can purchase plates, cups and cutlery, which are made from compostable materials. These items are made from corn and not petroleum, as plastics are. This means that these items can either be thrown in a compost bin, or if thrown away, they will turn back into soil in 3-6 months. So if you're throwing a party soon, or in charge of plates for a potluck, check out brands like @worldcentric! #planetorplastic#zerowaste#goinggreen#plasticsucks#ecoblog
The past few days I’ve been reunited with a few dear friends from New York. It’s been wild to see how much I’ve grown and stepped into myself more fully just by the reflections of these friendships. I’ve stepped more into voicing my thoughts on shopping sustainably like all these thrifted threads I’ve got on. Aside from the denim which are @everlane who is supporting a sustainable way of producing denim. Plus I’ve stepped into being the true crazy animal lover I am and snuggling all the kittens 🐱 on the streets of Boulder. Just out here living my best life one animal snuggle and thrifted outfit at a time. 📷: @lauracvikevich
Today I did something I never thought I’d do... I put essential oils under my armpits 😂😂😂 and I’m not talking deodorant made from EOs, I mean that I put a few drops directly under my armpits! It felt weird, but I heard from a friend that Copaiba can be used as an all natural deodorant! Which is great because this is the only oil from my kit that I hadn’t found a use for! 😂
Deodorant is yucky. It contains aluminum which basically plugs your sweat ducts. Yes, we want to smell good, but we are SUPPOSED to sweat! Aluminum has also been linked to an increased chance of tumor growth
In addition, some deodorants contain: 👉🏼Phthalates: linked to hormone disruption 👉🏼Parabens: linked to breast cancer 👉🏼Triclosan: linked to hormone disruption
Why all the rants about oils? Because they literally provide you with a SUPER easy alternative to the yucky chemicals in deodorant.
Cost: A small bottle of copaiba is about $20 and has 80 drops of oil in it. If you used it every day, one drop per pit, you could make this sucker last for OVER a month!! If you got it in the starter kit you’d get it with 12 other oils, making the cost less than THIRTEEN dollars a bottle!
Moral of the story? Take care of your pits! 😂😂😂 #toxinfreeliving#youngliving#younglivingessentialoils#essentialoils#copaiba#naturaldeodorant#happybody#happypits#goinggreen#oiler#oilupbuttercup
The day I told this guy that I wanted to sign up to be a Norwex consultant he looked at me like I was crazy. I explained to him over and over, “I just want the discount. It’s only for the discount. I’m not gonna actually SELL it.” 🙈 and that’s what I did, but then we actually received the products. I showed my husband what they were capable of and all of a sudden he was completely on board! HE was the one pushing ME to share this with my friends. He saw my enthusiasm and, to put it simply, what the products are capable of. ❤️ real talk: I’ve tried direct marketing before and we were wholly convinced it wasn’t for me. I just hadn’t realized though that what I needed was a product that I was truly passionate about 💙❤️💚🧡💛💜 I still tell my husband I’m not selling this stuff because it sells itself. Be careful, Norwex is totally addicting! I’m simply trying to share an easier, safer, more efficient lifestyle. Like I’ve said Norwex is totally my lazy #momhack . 💁🏻♀️
Did you know that composting your household food scraps reduces greenhouse gases?
When food scraps go to landfill, the unnatural environment makes it impossible for them to break down properly thus producing methane.💀
Composting improves the quality and nutrients of soil. It's easy, cheap and very beneficial to your garden and our Earth. 🌱
It is officially back to school time so I wanted to share some eco/zero waste/ low waste swaps with you 🤗
Pictured here are the eco highlighters by @stubbypencilstudio. They're completely plastic free and super cute (if I do say so myself).
Obviously I'm not going back to school this year, but I snagged some of these for myself for note taking in my new "office."
Also, check my stories for the link to my full video of sustainable supplies! On to the giveaway 👇

work out anywhere. 🧘🏼♀️🤸♀️🏋🏼♀️ i have been struggling to find a workout routine and schedule that works for me as a stay at home mom. many people like to tell me how much time i have to do activities 🤬🤯🤔 but until you have been a full time stay at home mom with a 4 year old and 18 month old I can tell you, you have NO idea what you are talking about. my new plan is to go to bed earlier and wake up to work out and start my day with a bang. 💥🏆the problem is Brooklyn sleeps with me from 3am on and if i am not in bed and she wakes up she will be up. 😫my FEAR is having her with me at 5:00 in the morning. BUT we will try. #🐝✌️at❤️ #humpday 🐫 #workoutwednesday
My first attempt at making a low waste, sustainable gift basket! Some of my favourite local(ish) goodies from @nugrocery in reusable glass jars and a couple dozen homemade oatmeal cookies 😍. All wrapped up with a reused paper bag & tissue paper!
Although I can't control what the recipient does with the packaging materials, at least I know everything could be reused, recycled, or composted 🙂
As pretty as bamboo utensil sets are, they're expensive. Using what I have works just as well, costs a lot less, and stops me from buying something new!
My younger brother and I went out for the day and I was on a secret mission to show him how cool living sustainably can be. He helped me pack drinks, snacks, bags, jars, cups, and cutlery (even though he complained and made fun of me the entire time 🙃). Despite my efforts he made some trash throughout the day (one of our stops was a kids fun park so I can't blame him) but he thought @nugrocery was cool and LOVED the gf/vegan peanut butter cookie he picked out. So I'm going to call this one a win 💚
I'd much rather floss with the highest quality silk available that comes in a hella cute tube than floss with plastic packaged in plastic that all ends up in the trash 💁♀️
@dentallace packages its biodegradable mulberry silk floss in refillable/reusable/recyclable glass containers and stainless steel lids. The refill floss bags are compostable and the post-consumer paperboard boxes are recyclable! I guess I can't avoid flossing anymore 😂
