The kayak outfit - I wish I could wear this to work every day.. But I’m afraid it’s not socially acceptable 😅
My brother snapped this photo of me on top of Högön. It’s pretty high up and I now understand how the island got its name 👍🏻 (Högön roughly translated to, High island)
I want to take the time to give my report on my @wearemacwet Climatec gloves which I ordered from @houndnhare prior to this year’s Grouse camp. .
I have extremely small hands, so finding a pair of gloves that fits me perfect has been as challenging as finding ocean front property in Arizona. Even the finest made gloves from some of my favorite brands have been disappointing with excessive finger length or too wide palms... Both of my problems were solved when these showed up on my doorstep. The gloves fit perfectly and allowed me to manipulate my Franchi Veloce like I was wearing nothing at all. Don’t think that this means they aren’t warm though! Most of my mornings in the UP started with frost or snow on the ground and trees, I made the mistake of forgetting my gloves back at the truck only once and I was kicking myself the entire time! I’m shocked that a glove made of such a luxurious feeling material can be as warm and comfortable as the Climatec glove is. Not only did they keep my hands comfortably warm, but no matter how wet I got these gloves my hands NEVER slipped on the stock of my over under and I was able to safely handle the dogs as I loaded and geared them up with vest and collars. .
The ultimate question that I had about these gloves going into this trip was how they would handle the extremely rugged terrain and brush that you have to suffer through in order to get to the Grouse’s preferred cover. This material must be absolute magic because at the end of this trip the gloves looked like they did the day I arrived. Seven days of pulling myself up hillsides using tree trunks and fighting through multiple types of thorn covered brush never put a single snag or tear in the Aquatec fabric.
To wrap things up just let me say again that I’m sold on these gloves and will continue to use them for years to come. This was in no way a paid for post, I am just happy to share my experiences with other women who fight the same battles I do when it comes to finding quality and comfortable gear. I have only had excellent experiences with ordering gear from @houndnhare located in Kentucky and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to give these a try!
“The hammock swings lower and touches the grass
The apples are ripe and the corn is past
Everyone says some goes by so fast
And we just got here
I can hardly believe it but it's ended
The beach is a haze and old love's a ghost
Hugo is twisting his way up the coast
If you blew out to sea I'd love you most
And we just got here

Waking up knowing that it’s your last day of hunting is jarring, it seems like just yesterday you felt like you had all of the time in the world... Suddenly everything feels critical, getting the dogs on birds and hoping you’re lucky enough to make a few good shots to hold you over until this time next year. .
Today Oakley continued to show us just how lucky we are to have her. This dog is the epitome of a versatile working dog and exactly the dog that I dreamed she would be when I bought into her breeding before the pregnancy was even confirmed. She hunted hard despite swelling in her carpus and raw spots from many miles of hunting before today. Solid productive points, nose to the floor tracking, and hunting for dead that always resulted in us never losing our game. .
I spent the week fighting my own battle when it came to my shooting this week with the birds winning the fight. Today all of that changed and I made up for lost time. The first Grouse flushed directly behind me and I made the conscious effort to swing my left leg as high and wide as possible, planting it 180 degrees behind me, and then swinging my shouldered Franchi to land a solid shot that folded the red phase to the ground. Such relief and a bit of sheer joy over landing a challenging shot to be honest. My two other Grouse were also on the wing and while honestly I began thinking that my first limit of Grouse could happen today, I’m absolutely thrilled with the three Grouse I placed in my game bag. Brian had a good day of his own harvesting two mature birds.
We said our final goodbyes to Maddie as we spread her ashes in the same place that she flushed her last Grouse. We should all be so lucky to spend eternity in such a beautiful location.
i went home to one half of my heart, and now i go home to the other.
a little broken, and sometimes questioning how to keep standing this fall... but reminded of our endurance and ability to persevere with the love of family, friends and pieces of my heart. we’re all a little broken, that’s what makes us alive, right? Extra thanks to a big piece of my heart, my better half @faunameetsflora . For taking off a day from a job she works her ass off to be a queen at to love me, wake up in the darkness of pre-dawn to chase lovers dreams on mountains, hold me when i fall apart and remind me of what i can do. There will never be a soul i love like you, my dear. Running back to my mountains is my favorite thing, but parting with my best woman is never easy. Luckily, distance doesn’t seem to change a thing and i already look forward to my next hug. ❤️ PS SEE U SOON FERNIE!!! 🐶🐶🐶

Oh gosh, it’s finally friiiday ✌🏻
I have no direct plans for the weekend, but I’m pretty sure I will take the kajak for a spin (no eskimo roll 😅) one last time before it gets too cold. Or maybe I’ll just cuddle up in the sofa and stay there until monday 💪🏻
I recently had the opportunity to work on a collaboration with Danner & Orvis. I knew the subject would be one of my best friends after hearing the wide net they cast for Art Direction. I also knew his buddy Tracker would be clutch for this piece. This shoot ended up being one of my favorite to submit. Two days after wrapping up, Tracker passed away for reasons were still not sure of. What started as a project, ended up moments frozen in time. #diverge7
