Communities, corporates and government. These are the three bodies collectively responsible for the state of our planet. Right now the balance is leaning towards destructive. I believe that is because, till the present day, we have heavily relied on governments to dictacte and execute on changes in our societies. Corporate and business bodies have for the most part focused on production and sales without taking into account whether the backend of these processes are fully sustainable or ethical. And communities efforts have generally been small scale. I cab see this is all changing now and i do believe the power has returned to the people. We as individuals and community have started to become more conscious with our consumer and disposal behaviour. We are also in a time where it is alot easier for us to start having impact through projects work from the ground up, to work together corporates and government . Its a great time for the people of the world to take advantage of. In the name of making a world a better place.
Spot the snake!
Out on fieldwork examining the how differing fire regimes and predators impact mammal communities in Namadgi National Park.
There's an abundance of wildlife including snakes (2 species) in the area, along with over 200 bird species.
We spotted this Highland copperhead (highly venomous, so do not approach unless experienced) catching the first light of the morning. Despite being very dangerous to humans, they're very docile. We took this snap and left the snake undisturbed.

“Some have theorized that our disregard for the environment is symptomatic of an impoverished imagination; a failure of our epistemic system to construct a convincing mental image of the futurism, complexity, and synchronicity of the natural world. The Life Magic gestures towards creating the conditions for a different understanding of the ecological sphere in which we find ourselves embedded. From its genesis as a series of fishing villages through its emergence as a global hub for shipping, finance, and big data, the destiny of Hong Kong has always been linked to the continued existence of its coastlines and harbors; Winterling’s exhibition invites us to find new vectors of relation to these over-utilized and under-empathized waters which surround us.” // Susanne Winterling: Gravitational Currents & The Life Magic, on view through 24 Nov 2018 #susannewinterling#emptygallery#exhibition#blackcube#gallery#installation#climate#ecology#nature#contemporaryart#art#dinoflagellates#hk#hkart
Scales can do more than measure
They inform your perspective and values, create a frame for problem solving, as well as prioritize your goals.
At #apatx18 I learned from people new and tenured working at large and small firms across the public and private sectors, what drove their passion to work at their scale! People are driven to action when they find the things that excite them are achievable, and when it fits the scale of work they can afford.
Learn to empower people, and yourself by recognizing the scale of your approach!
“To strive against odds on behalf of all of life would be humanity at its most noble” and so I will strive and I will do so humbly and undoubtedly in your shadow.
Thank you for your words Dr. Wilson
We are 7 billion, there are almost 800 million starving and yet we raise and slaughter 100 billion land animals and trillions from the sea for food every single year. This system is not only making the planet sick, but making us sick.. It is broken.
Harrowing as this statistic is, I am a hopeless optimist. I know a shift is happening and we are at a tipping point. Change is here, change is near ..
@emilieendurancerunner and I are proud to be on the @letusbeheroes documentary due for release on 11.11.
The future is 🌱..it has to be.
A lot of times I get to see something amazing while at work, some of those times I’m able to get it on camera:
Two Pileated Woodpeckers, I assume fighting over territory in our food forest @jubileeorganics but I suppose they could be discussing which bug tastes better.
It’s time for another #MorphologyMonday ! Roseate Spoonbills are named for their (you guessed it!) spoon-shaped bills. These birds can be found wading in the shallow, coastal waters of the Gulf Coast, slowly swinging their heads back and forth to sift through the mud. They feed on small fishes and aquatic invertebrates, which they catch by using their bills like a big pair of tongs. 🥄 #spooning#ajaja
