The photo on the right was taken this morning. I hated it- all I could see was how my abs aren’t visible, how I need to build more muscle through my shoulders, and how chubby my thighs looked. Like many other people in this industry, I treat my body as an ongoing project- there are ALWAYS things I want to work on.

No matter where you are in your journey, there’s nothing wrong with thinking about how you’d like to improve. But when it feels like you have forever left to go, take a minute to remember how far you’ve already come.

Have I ever been obese? No. But on the left, I treated my body like garbage. I ate takeout, candy, and processed foods on the regular. I drank alcohol 3-4x a week. I logged hours on the elliptical instead of picking up some weights.

I’m not the leanest I’ve ever been or ever will be. But look what can happen when you stop treating your body like a dumpster and  start living, eating, and moving like you actually care about yourself.

Myth: Cancer lives in an acidic environment and runs on sugar. 
In reality, cancer thrives in an alkaline cell. The cell shifts from an oxidized state (+) towards a reduced state (-). Oxidation happens when the state of an atom, molecule or ion becomes more positive. Reduction happens when it becomes more negative. Normally the mitochondria consumes hydrogen ions (electrons) and pyruvate from NADH which keeps the cell highly oxidized. 
Most alkaline memes are parroting the work of Otto Warburg, the scientist that discovered that cancer cells produce lactic acid even with sufficient oxygen. The physician W.F. Koch and biochemist Albert Szent-Gyorgyi took his work further. Koch found that by increasing the efficiency of oxygen utilization the cancer metabolism was corrected.

The Warburg effect and stress-induced hormonal cascade is activated by sugar (carbohydrate) deficiency. Deriving sugar from muscle and adipose creates more lactic acid and slows the production of ATP by inhibiting respiration. When lactic acid is increased, alkalinity and electrons in the cell are increased. 
With more electrons than the cancer cell can use, and unable to use them normally in oxidative metabolism, it tries to get rid of them by using them to synthesize fat. It will also utilize amino acids in the absence of glucose, which creates further problems. Because fat uses more oxygen that glucose, along with lactic acid, the cell is further depleted of oxygen and the cellular structure quickly falls apart, promoting cell division. 
It is not sugar and acidity that creates a conductive environment for cancer - it is the absence of them. ⚡️
