First day driving in the UK. I survived, the car survived, everyone survived.
The hard part is exactly what I knew it'd be... narrow roads with two-way traffic, no shoulder, and giant lorries (trucks) coming at me, hogging what little road there is.
These videos are of the better roads, for obvious reasons. The cinematography is also terrible for obvious reasons.
You have to "give way" a lot here, which is to say, your two-lane road becomes one lane suddenly, but still has two-way traffic, so you've gotta pull over and wait if you see someone coming.
I also drove down one of those roads where, when you meet someone, one of you has to back up to a spot big enough for both cars to get through. ON A SUPER CURVY ROAD. Thank heavens I only met two cars, and they instantly threw it in reverse, so I didn't have to do that.
Otherwise, the best method for passing lorries is to slow down almost to a stop (seems like everyone does this, not just tourists), and on the approach, say "please don't hurt me" at least three times fast, then pull your shoulders up to your ears and suck in air.
