To all the school leavers who have just received their ATAR, a few things to think about from someone who meets clients every week who have dropped out of their ‘dream’ course or finished a course in a field they have no interest in.
1) Be true to yourself 😃- choose something that YOU really want to do, not a course chosen for you by well-meaning family or a course that is popular with your peers. Everyone has different personalities, interests and values so don’t be pressured to go down a path you are unsure about.
2) Don’t choose a course based only on your ATAR - although you may feel compelled ‘to use’ your strong ATAR, this is not the best way to choose a course
3) Be clear on the career outcomes at the end of the course - does this type of work actually appeal to you? do you think you will be good at it?
4) Talk to people working in the field to get an insider’s view of career outcomes, job demand, what might be required of you in addition to a degree to obtain work in this field (ie. willingness to work remotely/rural areas, networking, internships and volunteering). A degree does NOT guarantee you a job in many fields, so be aware of what it may take to be competitive from day 1.
5) If you go ahead and enrol in uni then be prepared to put in the work. Graduate positions are competitive so don’t enrol if you are not ready to work hard. I see too many people who have completed degrees with very average marks who may have been better off going to TAFE or getting into the workforce as a trainee/apprentice.
In summary, do your research and choose wisely.
Work from the place of already having achieved your goals ladies!

Some days you wake up and wonder “Is the New York Times sure it’s Friday??? Pretty sure it’s Saturday.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Still, whether you’re sitting in an interview exhausted after a sleepless night or just tired from the daily grind, looking professional doesn’t have to be a lot of extra work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While you’re investing in professional clothes, make sure every piece you buy is comfortable enough for you to WANT to wear it - maybe even on the weekends! This will make dressing up feel less like a chore, and more like an easy addition to your routine. #DresstoImpress

As I often talk about in Hustle Hive, self-care is an important ingredient to sustainability.
You can work long hours for short bursts, but when it becomes the new normal…? Probably not going to last so long.
Instead of burning bright and burning out, I want you to start to think of rejuvenation as a MUST HAVE (not a nice to have). I want you to remember that it’s actually a better way to SAVE time in the end, even if it takes some time invested on the front.
What are you doing to get your rest on this weekend?!
I have so much I can’t wait to share from my trip to China.
It was so incredibly eye opening y’all.
And not just the fact that they ALL say... 🤣
But with everything accomplished from our trip, right when we got back we launched the beta program for my empowerment platform for black women interested in the beauty industry AND we just found out we locked in the lease on our first choice space. 🤯
It’s crazy how things just kinda fall together when your on the path God intended for you. 🙌🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾 Things are moving so quickly but #sheready
Details on everything soon #blessedbeyondmeasure

I CHALLENGE YOU to share your best moments and the lessons you learned in 2018. I shared mine on my story, go check it out to get inspired! When you share yours, use the hashtag #2018Recap !. . . ✨
I get a little personal, but what’s the point in sharing if you’re not going to be transparent? I also got emotional but at the same time overwhelmed with joy, because I was focusing too much on the negatives until I did this. . .
Do you feel like your year wasn’t special enough? I promise that if you look back and REFLECT, you will realize it was a great year after all. Share your year in your own way and let me know in the comments how it made you feel! 🖤🖤🖤
Do you prefer to be creative or analytical? Most people swing pretty hard one way or the other, but there are a few who sit fairly well in the middle of the spectrum.
I am definitely in the creative camp. I love creating. I love looking at all the possibilities and seeking out creative solutions.
I can be analytical, particularly when it comes to certain topics, but it isn’t a strength of mine and if you give me some data to analyse... well... you’ll be waiting a while, because that’s just not in my wheelhouse!
What is your preference? Does your current role align with that preference?
Happy Friday fellow Professionals! We’ve put in a hard week.
Do you or someone around you make loud phone calls in the office? 🗣📱 📞
Then this Dee’s Pro Tip is for you.
Loud phone calls disturb those around you and information may be shared with the wrong audience.
Make a habit of going into a phone/meeting room for your calls/teleconferences, and others will follow suit. If there is no room available, step outside for some fresh air. 🌬
Have a wonderful weekend team!
Have you ever had a job where you started watching the clock the minute you walked in the door, or sat down at your desk?⠀
If the answer is yes, you’re not alone. ⠀
Conference Board surveys tell us that 53 percent of Americans are currently unhappy at work (Forbes). Truth is the number may even be higher. Gallup reports that a staggering 87% of employees worldwide are not engaged. Can you be disengaged at work and happy with your job?⠀
Kristen Sherry is a career consultant with 1,000+ clients, a public speaker and the author of three career books. The numbers don’t surprise Kristen. For years, her first waking thought was, "What day is it?" If Monday, her stomach churned. If the weekend, a flood of relief. Like so many people Kristen thought this was part of life. ⠀
But is it? We don’t grow up dreaming about getting a job that will make us miserable. And logic says that if your job sucks, you should look for a different job. Easy, right?⠀
It should be, but it’s not. And Kristen says she knows why. ⠀
People don't know WHY they're unhappy at work or what fulfillment looks like. ⠀
On the surface, this seems hard to believe. But Kristen has proof. Kristen takes notes when her clients say they’re unhappy. Then she takes them through her YOU MAP process that reveals the true reasons they’re unhappy. The answers are not the same. ⠀
In this episode Kristen talks about her new book, “YouMap: Find Yourself. Blaze Your Path. Show the World”! and explains the process she uses to help her clients achieve career clarity and execute a winning job search. #screwthenaysayers#entrepreneurship#freedom#mind#believe#productivity#entrepreneurship#success#careeradvice#career ⠀

If you’re struggling to find an academic job after the completion of your PhD, you’re not alone. Unfortunately, our country produces far more PhDs than jobs. By working with Education and Career Solutions, you can ensure you’ll find the perfect opportunity in your field.
I was just talking to my mom at lunch today about how I’ve never had an issue with trying something new or taking an unorthodox leap because I know how every move I make (whether it will be a success or not) is part of my master plan. Don’t be afraid to be creative. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Don’t limit yourself.

Your resume probably sucks...
One reason is that it probably just talks about what you want, not what the employer wants.
How do I know?
Because I've been in that same boat before too.
Whether you like it or not, your resume is your way of marketing yourself to employers.
If you don't know anything about marketing or sales, you're kinda screwed if you go against the person who does.
So one super easy way to improve it is to just frame every word in your resume to what THEY get if they hire you.
How are you gonna help them?
How are you gonna make them more money?
